Name:
Angeal Hewley
Nickname:
None
Age:
Appear’s to be in his late 20’s
Gender:
Male
Job:
SOLDIER
Side:
Light
Weapon:
Standard Sword: The typical sword given to those in SOLDIER. He had given his Buster Sword to Zack Fair in his death and for that reason, was given the average sword that a SOLDIER member would always have.
Powers:
SOLDIER strength: This ability was given to him the day he joined SOLDIER. He was injected with mako energy and given powers that an average person could never get naturally. His average skills, such as endurance and strength, boosted to a point it seem inhuman. It was this kind of energy that was able to make him last in SOLDIER for as long as he did. Rush Assault: Angeal reveals his wings and dashes towards a target, fighting with only his hands. An aura of light surrounds him, signaling that he is ready to attack. He attacks with a flurry of punches and kicks, before the aura around him becomes focused into his hands to form a ball. He strikes the target with one hand and causes the ball of energy to explode on contact. Fire: He shoots out a ball of fire, using the fire materia in his pockets.
Family:
Gillian Hewley: Mother
Personality:
Angeal is a simple person to deal with: He doesn’t hide any information and can be straight forward to someone. When he talks, it sounds like he is giving more of a speech than an actual conversation. However, that is just how Angeal is: He acts like a teacher or mentor, helping out the younger SOLDIER members whenever he saw something wrong with them. Angeal acts professional and can be quite serious when he is on a mission: Rarely does he ‘play around’, no matter how small the mission is. Angeal sees his mission as a chance to prove his honor and because of that tries to be thorough as much as possible. He is soft spoken, speaking only when he is spoken to or if he is giving instructions.
However, he does a softer side to him. So far, he has only opened up to a few people in his life, revealing that he isn’t as ‘serious’ as he shows in public. He doesn’t really like to be in confrontations unless it is necessary. He still ‘lectures’ those who are around him, though he tells rather small stories and that doesn’t have much significance to the mission itself. He has yet to reveal his whole past to someone, as he only gives out tiny pieces of it, and only in his ‘lectures’. He is much more relaxed with his friends, sometimes even showing a smile.
He does act a bit self-righteous; He always talks about having honor and that a person should hold it: Anyone who talks to him will hear the word ‘honor’ at least once. That is just his own personal belief that every SOLDIER, even guards, should follow. He actually doesn’t like to be in the spotlight for his actions. To him, he was just doing his duty and that too much pride would stray someone from ‘honor’. Angeal would rather be done with his mission and look forward to his next on, training younger SOLDER members along the way.
History:
Angeal was born and raised in a small village known as Banora. In his early childhood, he befriended the wealthiest man’s son in the village, named Genesis. At an early age, Angeal was told by his father to keep his honor and dignity always. And so, the young kid tried to live an ‘honorable’ life as much as he could, though it was almost impossible to do so at such an early stage of his life.
The Shin-Ra company had a heavy influence over the small village, as Angeal would see regular guards and even SOLDIER members come by from time to time. Even both of his parents had worked for Shin-Ra as scientists. So it was only natural for him to idolize the idea of being a SOLDIER member and eventually become a 1st class SOLDIER. His friend, Genesis, shared the same dream as well, and the two went together at the same time. Before he left, Angeal’s father gave him a sword that he personally created. His father told him it represented their family’s ‘honor’ and Angeal decided that this sword would not be used unless desperate times came.
Upon arrival of the city of Midgar and the Shin-Ra building, they met another young SOLDIER member, known as Sephiroth. Sephiroth, like them, was just starting as a 3rd class SOLDIER. However, Sephiroth had the skills of becoming a 1st class SOLDIER easily, which did create a small tension between the three, though Angeal’s tension went away as time went by. In only a matter of months of meeting one another, the group became friends and went on missions together whenever possible. Time flew by and the three found themselves in 1st Class SOLDIER uniforms, Genesis and Sephiroth both having a unique appearance to them. Angeal had decided to keep the classic look of being a SOLDIER member. When they joined, all of them had to be infused with what they called ‘mako’ energy to officially make them SOLDIER members: It was required that all members of SOLDIER to be inject with mako.
Through-out their time together, Angeal had never bothered to use the Buster Sword that his father gave him. Instead, he used the regular sword that the company had given to all SOLDIER members, before using the Buster Sword. He saw the Buster Sword as a symbol, rather than a weapon. And he wanted to make sure that this ‘symbol’ was kept preserve as much as possible. Even in desperate situations, Angeal would try to find excuses to not use his family’s sword until it was a last resort.
As time went by, the tension between Genesis and Sephiroth grew more. It was still a friendly rivalry, though it had the potential to burst into a real fight. Angeal tried his best to keep the two from becoming ‘enemies’, as he realized that Genesis was somewhat jealous of Sephiroth’s fame: Sephiroth was the shining star between the group of three, and quite possibly the history of SOLDIER. He was even given the title of a ‘hero’ for his actions on the battlefield. Angeal didn’t care much for it, as he didn’t care for fame: All he cared about was serving SOLDIER with honor. Genesis, however, seem to have other ideas.
Inside the company training room, the tension between Genesis and Sephiroth finally broke out. At first, it seemed like a friendly competition, as Angeal and Genesis now had to fight against Sephiroth 2-to-1. Sephiroth was able to block both of them off with relative ease, and that’s when Genesis decided to fight against Sephiroth alone. Angeal didn’t want the two to fight each other, though he quietly stepped out of it, expecting the two not to fight with full force…..that didn’t happen, however. The two tried to ‘one-up’ the other with strength, and it quickly became escalated. Finally, Angeal had enough as he intervened and tried to stop Genesis first, though Genesis ‘shoved’ him out of the way. Before anything could get worse, Angeal tried to step between the two, risking an attack from both sides. Genesis, out of adrenaline it seemed, tried to hit Angeal with a blast so he could strike at Sephiroth. This blast actually broke Angeal’s sword and caused a good chunk of it to rip into his shoulders.
The fight seized immediately as Angeal worried for his friend. Genesis had told them that it was only a minor injury and that he would be fine and not to worry. However, weeks passed and Genesis’ wounds still wouldn’t heal. It turned out that the mako energy was preventing his body to heal itself properly and they needed a blood transfusion. Angeal stepped in to save his friend and followed the scientist, Hollander, to the operating room. The blood transfusion was a success and Genesis was eventually healed….though, to Angeal, he wasn’t the same since then….
The group had to part ways as a new surge of SOLDIER members started to come in. Out of the three, Shin-Ra decided that Angeal was the ideal ‘mentor’ for the new SOLDIER members. Apparently, his talk of honor didn’t go unnoticed. Angeal taught various SOLDIER members, though one did stand out in particular to him: Zack Fair. He was a unique individual, as he was restless as what he compared to a ‘puppy’. With all that energy, Angeal saw something in Zack and so took most of his attention to him. Zack eventually became Angeal’s ‘unofficial prodigy’.
The war with Wutai had long been waging: It has been going on since Angeal became a 1st Class SOLDIER. One day, Genesis was given a mission to Wutai and went M.I.A. Angeal was concerned for his friend once more, though the company had told him not to worry. And so, Angeal waited patiently for his friend to return or to hear any news from the company on Genesis’ stats: Nothing happened. Angeal then received a call from Genesis, though he was told by him not to tell the company. He was told to meet to him in his village of Banora, though not under the company’s orders: He had to go on his own. Angeal was conflicted with the situation as he wanted to see his friend again, but he couldn’t turn on the company. Though, Angeal had made his decision as he took a ‘personal’ time off and headed back to his home. It wasn’t really known what Genesis had told Angeal, though it was more than enough to convince Angeal. He returned to Shin-Ra and ran Zack, who was now a 2nd Class SOLDIER, through a couple of computer simulations. At the end of their final simulation, Angeal had said to Zack, “Embrace your dreams. If you want to be a hero, you need to have dreams…and honor.”
Angeal was hoping that Zack would follow his words as he went through SOLDIER….
At last, Genesis’ mission could no longer be ignored and he had to be replaced. Angeal had recommended Zack and even put his name in for promoting to 1st Class SOLDIER. They packed their gear and headed out to Wutai, to finish what Genesis had started. During all of this, Angeal thought what he was going to do first. The words of Genesis’ secret still haunted his mind, yet he couldn’t turn his back on Zack now: Zack had grown on Angeal and he sort of saw him as his own student. Angeal had decided to finish this mission with Zack, as he wanted him to have a successful career in SOLDIER and eventually become the ‘hero’ the he dreamt to be.
The mission was a success as they were able to destroy one of the key buildings in Wutai that signaled the end to the war. Just as they were leaving, Zack and Angeal were attacked. Angeal had already knew who these people were, and told Zack to take the Director of Shin-Ra, Lazard, back to the chopper with him. When Zack and the director were far away, Angeal had lowered his stance and followed the ‘people’ to their leader, Genesis. It turned out that Angeal and Genesis were no longer ‘human’ as he thought. Instead, because of Shin-Ra and the mako energy inside them, they had become monsters as they had sprouted wings on one side of their back. Genesis was actually helping a former employee of Shin-Ra, Hollander, and take revenge on the company itself. When the offer was made to Angeal, he said that he would have to think about it and also went ‘M.I.A’ from SOLDIER.
Angeal once saw Zack again shortly after their mission in Wutai: This time, in his home of Banora. Genesis had turned Banora into a personal stronghold, though he left Angeal’s mother alone….and for good reason. Angeal was able to see his mother once again, though he only came to leave his sword behind: He believed his ‘honor’ was now gone and he didn’t deserve the sword anymore, though it was only for a moment of doubt. There was a small factory outside of the village, where he saw Zack again. In that brief moment of doubt, Angeal wanted to decline Genesis’ offer by raising his sword against him. Then, Genesis had said something to him that struck a cord in his heart. “Could you really live on that side?” There was a brief moment of silence for Angeal to rethink his decision and he had made up his mind before Zack began to speak. He felt ashamed for what he was doing, so much so that he couldn’t even look at Zack for more than a second. Yet he felt like he had no other choice….
He arrived at his house once again to pick up the Buster Sword once more, only to see that his mother was now dead. The initial shock of her sudden death numbed Angeal as all he could do was just staring at her. He was grabbing his sword when Zack came in, thinking that Angeal had killed his own mother. Angeal allowed Zack to take his shots on him, as he too felt ashamed. Genesis stepped in however, and allowed Angeal to leave the place. The last thing that Angeal saw was Shin-Ra bombing his own village from a distance, which had made him stay by his decision.
Hollander was later revealed to be one of the main suspects in Genesis’ ‘revolution’ against Shin-Ra, as he wanted to have revenge against them for giving his rightful position to someone else. Hollander was also one of the few men that had experimented with a new project, named Project G. Angeal and Genesis were both creations of Project G and that became their connection in the conspiracy. That also explained why the two men were ‘monsters’, compared to the regular SOLDIER members. Angeal met Zack once more as Zack, now a 1st Class SOLDIER, went after Hollander. He warned Zack that SOLDIER were nothing but monsters and that he should turn away now. When Zack refused and told him that he wasn’t a monster, it stumped Angeal, as well as angering him. Angeal eventually attacked Zack indirectly, as he caused him to fall into a pit trap. Angeal was still confused about what Zack was thinking and so went back to Hollander. He also wanted to know more about ‘Project G’, as he had only heard about it recently…
Angeal didn’t know about this project much later in the conspiracy, and it was later revealed to him who was responsible for Project G: Gillian Hewley, his own mother. This news was what steered Angeal to turn against Genesis and Hollander. It also caused him to doubt his actions in the past months: He didn’t know which side was worth fighting for anymore. He never did agree with Genesis and Hollander completely, and it was Zack who caused him to question himself and find ‘the truth’, so he decided to go back to Shin-Ra. He had hopes that some-how, he could regain his honor and maybe fight for SOLDIER and Shin-Ra once more.
However, it was impossible to take back everything he had done. He was too deep into the conspiracy that Genesis and Hollander had and Shin-Ra would never allow him back into the company once more. Now he was not only against Shin-Ra, but he was now against Genesis, his former friend. There was nothing left to do…but fight. He had become his own suffering as he made himself the outcast. And as he said, “Those who create our suffering are our enemies and must be destroyed.”
It was not Genesis he had to fight, however. Instead, it was Zack who had come in to fight him. As much as Angeal wanted to fight against his former friend, Zack was able to beat him. He was able to destroy one of Angeal’s sufferings. But now….he wanted Zack to destroy his own suffering by defeating him in a battle. Before he even had a chance to fight him, Hollander had appeared and began to explain once more, to Zack, as to why Angeal joined Genesis and why he was different than Genesis. However, Angeal had enough of it and no longer considered himself to be on Hollander’s side as he almost took out his frustration on him. He was able to calm himself once again as he focused his attention back to Zack, telling him that this was his final test. He not only wanted to see Zack how much he improved, but he wanted to defeat him. Angeal merged with the other experiments that Hollander produced and began to fight against Zack. Zack eventually defeated Angeal and Angeal barely had any energy left within him. His body had turned grey and cracked, almost like how Genesis was in the degredation process. With his final breaths, Angeal gave his family’s sword to Zack, thanking him and stating to protect his honor always. Those were his final words before his eyes closed…
However, it seems like he has received a second chance.
Angeal found himself in at the entrance to the city of Midgar. He no longer carried the Buster Sword with him, but rather the normal sword everyone was given when joining Shin-Ra. He looked rather shocked to find himself within the city once more, as he could only remember his death: His memory in the life stream was all vague to him. He concluded that he was brought here for a reason and that he will find that reason soon enough. And so, Angeal began to explore within the city to find his purpose of being here….and possibly finding a few people he wished to meet…
Physical Description:
Angeal has the average build of a SOLDIER member. He is tall as well, standing a bit over 6’0”. He has sky blue eyes as a result of the mako energy fused into him when he joined SOLDIER. His hair is at medium length; barely touch his shoulders, though it is kept tidy. He has the same clothes as what the average 1st Class SOLDIER member would wear: A dark blue, almost black suit with a large belt wrapped around him with the SOLDIER logo on it. He has the shoulder pads and the brown boots as well. On his back, there is a small sheath for him to strap his sword on his back. His pants are tucked in his boots and the belt strapped around him also supports the sheath behind him, by having two straps attached across his chest. He also has the gloves for the SOLDIER members.
”Embrace your dreams. If you want to be a hero, you need to have dreams….and honor.” “You’re a little more important than my sword…but just a little.” “Honor can be quite a burden, at times.”

The First Mission
Angeal looked around the SOLDIER floor, carrying the Buster Sword behind him and the standard sword in his right hand. He was feeling a little anxious, seeing as this was his first mission as SOLDIER. He wore the light blue colors to show that he was just a 3rd Class SOLDIER member. He was leaning against a wall as he thought about what his first mission would be. It wasn’t like him to act this worried, but he couldn’t help himself. All he thought about was, ‘I’ll have to show my ability and prove my honor to Shin-Ra.’ Angeal saw that a couple of other 3rd Class SOLDIER members were coming, though they kept their helmets on.
One of them approached Angeal as he broke off from the pack. ‘So, my friend, are you ready?’ The SOLDER asked, as he took off his helmet. Angeal nodded with a small smile as he said, “I’m ready. You should worry about yourself, Genesis.” Genesis let out a smirk as he nodded his head: then there was a moment of silence between the two. Angeal was the first one to speak as he asked his friend, “Do you think we’re going to Wutai?” Angeal had always had his thoughts about Wutai since first coming to Shin-Ra: He always heard about stories about the uneasy tension between Shin-Ra and Wutai from SOLDIER members in Banora. It wasn’t until recently that the tension was beginning to escalate. Angeal believed that going to Wutai would be the best way he could show his honor and prove himself as an honorable SOLDIER member.
Genesis simply shrugged at him as Angeal let out a small sigh. He was normally much calmer than this: Even when the training began, Angeal didn’t appear to be worried and went on with his training like it was nothing. There was something about this particular day that had him shaking a little, though he couldn’t explain why. Perhaps it was the pressure of this being his first mission and he wanted to make a good impression on the leaders of SOLDIER. Suddenly, another 3rd Class SOLDIER approached them. He had green eyes and long silver hair, characteristics that were rather unique in SOLDIER. “Ah, Sephiroth, was it? What brings you here?” Genesis asked, while Angeal stared at the new person.
Angeal didn’t hear much about Sephiroth before joining SOLDIER: However, from what he saw in training, Angeal considered Sephiroth to be a 1st Class SOLDIER. The clothes he wore now did not represent his actual skills in SOLDIER. He easily defeated 3rd and 2nd Class SOLDIER members, even most of the 1st Class SOLDIER members. In truth, Angeal was a little bit jealous that Sephiroth was able to prove his strength so quickly, as he was given his first mission before Genesis and himself. However, he believed that eventually, he would reach to his strength.
Sephiroth gave his answer. “The director wants to see you two in the briefing room now. We’re about to start our mission.” Angeal’s face lit up as he looked Sephiroth in the eyes. Finally, he spoke up to him as he said, “Where are we going?” Sephiroth only shook his head as he said, “I don’t know….we’ll find out soon enough.” Angeal looked slightly confused, pondering as to why Sephiroth kept referring to ‘we’. “Are you coming with us, Sephiroth?” He only gave a simple nod: Both Angeal and Genesis looked at one another. Once again, there was a moment of silence within the group. Angeal was left thinking that it would be almost impossible to show his value and honor to the director, if Sephiroth was coming along. However, he did his best not to show his concern over the matter as he nodded his head back at Sephiroth and said, “We’ll see you there soon, then.” Sephiroth left with a nod, confirming with Angeal’s statement and headed into the Briefing Room.
“What do you think of Sephiroth?” Genesis popped the question out of the blue, as Angeal looked at him with a puzzled look. Angeal pondered for a moment as Genesis looked at him. He responded, “I don’t think we should be worried about him. We’re all on the same side, after all…..Let’s go to the briefing room now.” Angeal started to walk first, as Genesis caught up and walked the same pace. The moment Angeal heard Sephiroth say something about their first mission; his heart has been beating a little faster than usual. A small smile came about from him, showing his excitement for the first time since finishing his training.
All there was left to do now was to prove his honor to the director and become a 1st Class SOLDIER.

Hey Karel, great application, you seem to know Angeal much more for what character he is than you did Jecht, which is great! A few notes, in the History Hollander's creations that fused with Angeal were also his clones, as he was able to pass on his cells to others like Genesis so that they looked like or were similar to him. Also, in the Roleplaying Sample which is beautifully written, just please be aware in the roleplay that you cannot do the same with saying or controlling Genesis's, Sephiroth's or any other character's words or actions except Angeal's.
Other than that, well done, welcome back to the site!
