Runes in the sky, followed by a crimson bolt through them to the ground; this was what happened over the remains of the Sister Ray. It was not a usual day in the ruins of Midgar, the once powerful city that dominated this eastern part of the world. No, it was very cloudy and the heavy overcast gave a darkening hue to the features of everything here, giving off a feeling that was nothing short of foreboding. A figure remained hunched over where the crimson light had faded upon the cannon, a single black wing extending from his left shoulder. Genesis stood up gracefully, the slight breeze catching his crimson coat and hair as he did so, only to give it a bit of a ruffle. His mako green eyes looked about the familiar sight he had laid eyes on naught but a week ago. Or so it seemed as if it were a week. These minutes rolled on into hours, hours to days, days into weeks and all seemed to become nothing but a single expanding memory.
With no order and no sense of time, things became just moments. He did not know what year it was, what the day of the week was, or whether it was time for breakfast or dinner. It didn't matter anymore, no, because time was no longer a factor to him. Then again, in the days of SOLDIER, it never mattered to him unless it was dire in the mission description. Eliminate these threats before this convoy arrives here. Such things merely stated for example. Yes this planet did still hold something that others could never provide to the one winged SOLDIER. The ability to call it home. Though, Midgar had never been a home for him, no it was the lushous greens of Banora that held that promise for him. Just then, that memory of himself sitting there with Zack Fair came back to him. The day Zack had brought him a Banora White, and they shared it amongst themselves and another who sat upon the chair. Yes, Zack's poisoned friend.
Genesis wondered what became of SOLDIER 1st Class Zack, and whether or not he became a hero, since he carried a part of Sephiroth within him. He then looked down to his hand, and thought of the G-cells that flowed in his veins. No longer degrading, and no longer in a weakened form. Indeed Zack shared something with Genesis and his friends; Jenova cells. The cells weren't the gift, no. The gift was something far greater than that calamity could ever produce, and it did not matter to Genesis how much his friend continuously praised his origins. If only Angeal were here, then things would go without contestation. As Genesis looked towards the outskirts beyond the city of Edge, the sun had broken through the clouds to shine upon a lone cliff. He turned his back on it, and once more dived into recitings of LOVELESS to pass the moments onward. "When the war of the beasts brings about the world’s end, the goddess descends from the sky. Wings of light and dark spread afar, she guides us to bliss, her gift everlasting."

Darkness.
It was going to come. Coming to Gaia. The temporary moment of peace was gone from Gaia. Yet more trouble and danger would be coming to the world. It seemed like the world was destined to be known for the ruthless battles that were fought on it. It was becoming sort of a cycle it seemed. A period of war and sadness. After that period the joy would be resotred temporarily. With every new battle, it felt like the sadness was becoming worse each time. A long period of happiness and peace wasn't too much to ask for. Or was it? At this rate it felt ike it was nearly impossible to achieve. No matter how many people fought to bring an end to it. The darkness just seemed to keep on coming back. But...darkness could be defeated. Light was the more powerful of the two.
These were at least the opinions of Tifa Lockhart. She strongly believed that light was the more powerful of the two. If you could find your light...then you could achieve whatever you needed to. It was often the challenge to hold onto the light for some. Tifa knew this to be true. The darkness just felt so strong sometimes. It was almost hard not to fall into the trap of the darkness. But light could be easy to find. If you had were able to look for it. Or even had someone with a strong prescence of light. Impossible things could happen with a bit of light. Tifa knew this to be true. She had witnessed how strong the light could be on that one day back in the Radiant Garden. She had gone to that world when she was looking for Cloud.
When she finally managed to find Cloud, he had managed to find Sephiroth. Sephiroth was trying to get in his head with all of the darkness talk. Tifa knew that this was false though. She told him her views on light. Not to change his mind, of course. But just to prove how strong the light really was. Tifa knew light to be strong. And since she wanted to help Cloud, she gave him her light. So he would have more strength to fight Sephiroth. If he only had the darkness inside him with little light...the fight probably wouldn't have gone over well. But with a strong amount of light, the fight against darkness was a bit easier. It was still hard to conquer the darkness. Things like that woud probably never change. But light could do well in battle. Tifa was going to get another chance to try that out.
She found herself on the outskirts of Edge, unsure how she had gotten here. Everything was becoming a bit fuzzy, as far as the going to other worlds went. She wasn't far at all though. She could walk home from here. Unlike the other worlds that she had been in, such as that one beach where she had fought in another battle. But...what was the reason for being here? Was another battle going to ensue here. Tifa looked up the sky. The sky looked so...violent. And dark. Darkness...it had to be the only reason for why she was here. Tifa could sense the darkness in the area. It seemed to be growing stronger with each passing moment. Like more momentum was building up for the darkness. And the light seemed to be coming more and more distant. This thought was a bit scary. And it made Tifa slighty apprehensive for whatever may happen here.
She closed her hand and placed it over her heart. Her eyes shut. She kept on repeating the same thing in her head over and over again. Don't lose your light...don't lose your light. This bit of encouragement made her feel slightly better for whatever may start. Tifa looked around. Someone had to be here with a sense of darkness. It had to be coming from somewhere. Her eyes caught sight of someone. A man. She only saw him from behind. But one feature stood out about him. He had..a wing. One wing also. And the wing on that man was almost identical to his. Tifa knew that she was not the one to make the first move. She felt a bit nervous about what may start but she put those thoughts aside for now. She just tried to focus on methods of attack, should they be necessary.

He was so tired... so very tired.
It had been years since the man in the crimson cloak had been awakened to the flow of time's river. And while he had been grateful for that, with the fabric clinging around his shoulders, he felt like he wanted to return back to sleep again. He had fought against the darkness so many times, and each time it kept coming back stronger and stronger, and he wondered when it would ever be enough to keep the peace he had fought so desperately for. Was fighting for discord so desirable? Where was the comfort in that? He had always been enshrouded by darkness himself for his sins, and after the nightmares had been atoned for, all it made him want to do was fall back into deep slumber.
He could not sleep within the light, the darkness was always something he could hide himself within and use it to his advantage to bring fear to his enemies, but the light was something to fight towards too. It kept him awake, kept him focused on his goals and thinking clearly, kept him healed and restored when all seemed hopelessly lost. Neither Light nor darkness was completely bad, the powers of darkness were simply misunderstood, because of those who seeked to use it for malicious deeds who hid within it. Perhaps from their view, Vincent was malicious himself, for selfishly fighting to restore the light to bring about peace. But in a world of havoc, lives were not lost, and all happiness and hope were not crushed under the foot of those who sought to attain the power of the gods.
The town of Edge in Gaia reminded him of such gods spoken in mythology. There had only been one, a goddess, a large advertisement promoting LOVELESS he looked upon which she had been written into. Vincent sat upon a steel girder above the city, watching over it silently, the chilling wind tugging at midnight-ebony colored locks. Red eyes looked upon the billboard on one of the tall buildings of Edge nearby, when scanned quickly across to movement below. Of that of a familiar being he had only fought not long ago who had mysteriously vanished as quickly as he had appeared, a man in a cloak as red as his own, his wing mirroring the color of his hair.
The world had become a little darker, as the man uttered his words, not only visually but something that Vincent Valentine could feel crawl under his skin and sunk into his heart. He shouldn't even be here, and yet he was, witness to the oncoming shadow blanketing the city's already darkened folds. Vincent was tired, so very tired, but he would not allow himself to fall into endless slumber yet. And as alone as he felt he deserved to be at that moment, there was a ray of hope, present in the presence of the familar face that was Tifa Lockheart moving into view. Perhaps not surprised he knew she was here, perhaps watching over her like a fallen angel in his own world of darkness, Vincent reminded himself that indeed that there was still something left to be fighting for.
As if to distract Genesis from paying too much attention to Tifa's appearence, for he would have noticed her before Vincent, he recited aloud the next line of LOVELESS which ironically mirrored their own situation under each's own interpretation of the verse. Upon seeing him, Genesis would be reminded of the encounters he had with him at Spiral Hill in Halloween Town and the Banora Underground, the latter in which Vincent had fought him alongside the Princess of Heart known as Kairi.
"Infinite in mystery is the gift of the goddess; we seek it thus, and take it to the sky. Ripples form on the water’s surface, the wandering soul knows no rest."

The sky was dark and the ominous clouds circled above the destroyed city of Midgar. Was it that long ago when meteor had struck? It was a question that belonged in the past to some, but it wouldn't be forgotten by others. The destruction caused by Sephiroth had caused torment to thousands and he enjoyed every bit of it. Soon he would be able to enjoy it again because he was on the quest for the Black Materia once more. He believed that seizing Gaia for the Heartless would be able to return a tool that would be most useful to him.
Although he would fool the Heartless and use Gaia for his own needs, rather then letting them have it. Jenova had told Sephiroth to gather Genesis and Angeal because it was time that the planet should of been theirs. Kadaj, Yazoo, and Loz were starting to disobey mother and go out on their own. Sephiroth didn't care because soon they would meet their ultimate fate, death. Sephiroth descended from the sky and landed on top of the tallest building in Midgar. He gazed at the city below him and he shook his head.
"Mother, they're coming again." He looked back up to the sky with his sword in hand. "Let's rid this planet of the filth and start anew. The Heartless will not tamper with our dream." His wintry blue eyes scanned the city as he waited on top of the building. "Cloud, I'm waiting." Cloud was only a puppet in his eyes, a puppet that had pretended it had a will of its own.

Footsteps echoed through the streets of Edge in a fast, running motion as a man made his way through a couple of alleys, doing his best not to knock over any trash cans or piles of boxes as he did so. What was he running from? Or who was he trying to catch up with? Those questions were mysteries for now as the figure continued to go on his way. Rushing out the end of the alley, the black-haired man darted across a main road without giving time to look either way. Car horns honked and tires skidded to a halt as the middle aged man barely got hit by the passing traffic. Upon reaching the other side, he stopped and gasped for some breath, leaning forward and placing one fingerless gloved hand against the side of a building with the other on his chest. Casting his bright green eyes back at the road, he could only wince and apologize for the mess he had made, a couple of angry civilians shaking their fists at him.
A moment later and he was off again, dashing off down the street, his long black hair flailing out behind him wildly. ~Where did she go?~ The man, known as Laguna and the President of Esther, asked himself in his thoughts as he glanced to his left every now and then to quickly peer down an alley he shot past. More civilians had to jump and dive out his way as he charged past, doing his best to avoid colliding with anyone and all in all, just generally annoying more people and painting a larger target upon his back. He could only wave and apologize more and more, knowing he's not making an awfully good reputation for himself around here. Typical. Kiros and Ward would certainly be scolding him right about now, but both of them were missing in action. The mere thought of that brought a heavy weight upon the ex-Galbadian Soldier's heart. He missed his friends so dearly... but it wasn't just them. His son too...
Eventually he had to stop again to get more breath. Why was he running? Well, a few days ago he bumped into a beautiful young woman in some place called 7th Heaven and ever since that day, he had been getting an awfully bad vibe from this world itself. Something dark was approaching, but the President couldn't really put his finger on it. Hopefully the young woman he met in the bar would help to shed some light upon this situation. Luck would have it, that as he stopped to gather more breath and slow down his already beating heart, he peered to his one side and caught side of a woman with long black hair and a familiar looking attire. Forcing himself back to his feet, he raised one of his arms to his brow and leaned forwards, trying to get a better look at her. "Tifa?" Laguna said out loud as he forced himself to start walking in her direction, lowering his hand down from his brow. Yep, it looked like her alright. Thank goodness. But what was she staring at?
Laguna drew closer and finally started to feel normal again as more air filled his lungs and his heart rate started to slow back down again. "Tifa? What are you doing all the way out here? I thought you were back in the bar..." The middle aged man said with a smile, brushing some of his long hair away from his eyes while at the same time, checking to make sure his machine gun was still attached to his belt and hadn't fallen off or got mugged off him. It was still there thankfully and he finally glanced off in the way Tifa was looking, but couldn't see anything out of the ordinary. Glancing back at the young bar owner, Laguna rubbed the back of his head slightly, doing his best to control his nerves. She was a pretty young thing after all and Laguna knew that he'd get embarrassed or nervous when talking to her. Even so, he bucked up his courage and gave her another smile.
"Tifa... I've been wondering. Recently i've been having all these bad thoughts and well, sorta premonitions. I feel that something terrible might have happened here in the past... judging from the state of the city itself..." The president started to say, glancing from left to right as he did as he examined and took in his surroundings. The place looked run down and was in the process of being rebuilt. "What had happened here?"

The sound of booted footsteps echoed through the eerie silence of the ruins of the once proud city of Midgar. In its past, the city had been the centre of the ShinRa company, a 'floating' city suspended on large iron plates where those who could afford it lived above in the lap of luxury offered to them by the mako being harvested from the planet, and those who could not were forced to live in the shadow of the underworld that the plates created. It was also the centre of SOLDIER, an elite group of military men used by ShinRa for just about anything, all infused with varying amounts of mako directly into their bodies.
It was this elite group that one young blonde had dreamed about joining when he left his small town in the mountains on the other side of Gaia at the young age of fourteen. And yet, the chance had always evaded him, and he had simply become a foot solider, an average infantryman, ashamed at his own failures. And then, due to a series of unforeseeable events....he had gained that mako empowerment, though not in the way he would have liked to, and had even believed that he had NOT failed, and that he had made SOLDIER after all.
But that was all behind him, and now the lone swordsman knew the truth. He may have never been more than an infantryman in reality, but somehow, this city, this planet was still his to defend. No matter the enemy, he would always return to Gaia, and he would not let it be taken by the darkness that so often swirled around it - he would do anything to stop it.
And now, Cloud Strife had returned to the world of his birth for just that reason. He could sense the impending darkness, and though the thought of another fight left a bitter taste in the mouth of one who had seen far too many sights for someone only in his early twenties, he knew that he would do what he had to. If it meant fighting until his own death finally caught up with him to try to bring about peace, then he would do so. It was frustrating that the darkness kept returning, never letting him enjoy the peace that he helped bring about for more than a short time, and made him wonder if everything was pointless sometimes if the darkness would only continue to return. But seeing Denzel and Marlene playing out in the street before Seventh Heaven together, laughing and smiling, and watching Tifa smile standing over them...that made it worth the peace, no matter how short it may be.
They deserved to be smiling - and Cloud would see to it that they smiled again.
It did not take the blonde long to find the presence of another person in the ruins, and he stopped several metres away from the man with the long red jacket. He squinted for a moment, trying to place the man in his memories, because although he was certainly there....it was so vague and clouded....then, it came to him. Genesis Rhapsodos. He had been a SOLDIER First Class back when Cloud had first come to Midgar, and had caused countless problems after that....problems he had tried to help Zack solve all those years ago. And now...he was back. Just like Sephiroth....they could never just stay in his memories.
The man's sudden words startled Cloud a bit, but when he recognized them a frown crossed his features. What surprised him more, though, was the distant echo of response that he heard from a much more familiar voice. Mako eyes snapped away from Genesis for a moment to scan the horizon until they fell on the familiar silhouette of a figure shrouded in black and crimson. So Vincent had come to Midgar as well...at least Cloud would not be alone, though why his companion was somewhat humouring their enemy escaped him. He had to have a reason, though....
Then, Cloud saw exactly the reason why. Across from him, with Genesis positioned between them, his eyes fell upon a familiar figure - Tifa. The one he had just been thinking about. So she had come to fight as well....though her presence was a comfort to the swordsman, her current position made him feel a bit defensive, and he slowly drew his characteristic weapon, though he was thankful to Vincent for at least trying to distract the one-winged man. One wing....again, just like Sephiroth. Monsters....was Cloud one too?

He could sense the presence of his friend, higher than the others, now placed upon the top of the Shinra building. The next act had come out of someone's mouth, but not his own. As the SOLDIER turned, his mako green eyes found sight of a familiar face through his crimson locks. "Valentine." spoke the man in crimson, gesturing to him with a slight wave of a gloved hand. His eyes scanned the area and they found Cloud with his weapon drawn. He took a leap forward, off the ruins of Sister Ray to gracefully land upon a girder not far from Vincent, placing him between the crimson demon and Cloud. "I remember you, friend of Zack Fair." he spoke with a graceful gesture to the man in black.
He looked to Vincent, a lone feather blowing from his now folded black wing. "So, you've brought two others as well. I must admit, these odds stacked against myself are formidable." he spoke, pointing down to where Tifa and Laguna now stood. He then turned his hand upwards to the darkened sky. The weather would undoubtedly get worse as this went on, and it was only a matter of time. Would these four save Gaia from another turbulent crisis? Well they could sure as hell try their hardest. Genesis looked to the frown upon Cloud's face and gave a faint smirk, then directed a pointing finger to the ruined Shinra building.
"He's there, Cloud." spoke Genesis, and with that he held out his right hand which became eclipsed by a crimson light. When it disipated seconds later, the Rapier was gripped firmly in the crimson glove. "You sense it, can you not? Just as you have sensed my presence here, which has all undoubtedly brought you back to the beginning. Here in Midgar, the start of the Planet's suffering shall the reenactment of LOVELESS shall take place." he spoke, not directly to Cloud but to all four who were within distance to hear him. "Then again...perhaps we shall write a new tale."
It was a vicious slash upon his sudden turn, and the blade of the Rapier was unharmed as it easily passed through the hardened steel of the girder . He leaped high into the air while the steel frame fell steadily towards the ground where the swordsman stood. Hopefully it would crush him, but it was unlikely. As he extended his wing and took to the sky, some feathers fell from where he left. Higher he flew until a ray of sun shone through the clouds, eliminating Genesis from the other's sight.

Tifa studied over Genesis for the moment. She was trying to get a good look at him or at least know what she was going to be getting into. She just couldn't get her eyes off that wing. It brought back so many thoughts since the one wing only brought back a single memory. Of a person that she hated due to so much pain and suffering that person brought. Not only to her, but to many. Especially Cloud. Cloud was always the one who seemed to be after him or one way or another. She wondered if perhaps this man knew Sephiroth. She also wondered...if he was going to come today. Sephiroth. The darkness seemed so strong right about now. It wouldn't be much of a surprise if he were to come. Especially with how things were feeling right about now.
Tifa wondered if she should take this to her advantage and attack. He seemed to not notice her just yet. Just as she took a step forward she heard someone speak. She recognized this voice. This was the voice of...a friend. She felt a bit more relieved now. She looked over to see none other then Vincent Valentine. Tifa even smiled slightly. She was glad to know that she wasn't alone here. She moved closer toward the two of them now, hearing some conversation going on. She wanted to be able to help Vincent should Genesis attack. Tifa always wanted to help her friends out in battle. She looked at Vincent wondering if he was a bit more recovered from Spira. The battle against Kadaj had been pretty tough. She still had a few bruises along her arms. Nothing too severe though. She felt like she was strong enough to fight again. Especially now that Vincent was here.
She was closer to the two of them and she heard someone call her name out. Tifa turned around and saw a familar face. She met this man earlier today when he came by her bar. He was different then some of the other people that came to her bar. Most people would just drink and eat, keep to themselves. Tifa didn't get much conversation with people. Aside from Denzel and Marlene. Or some of her friends when they dropped by for a visit. But Laguna had been different. He was a complete stranger to her. And yet he was interested in making conversation with her. Tifa was surprise by that, but also liked it. Perhaps she could get a friendship from him. Tifa wondered though...why was Laguna here? Was he going to help in the fight also.
"I was, but I don't really know how I got here. It just sort of...happened." Tifa said. It wasn't the first time that she had been brought to a world without her knowledge of it. But this time she hadn't gone too far. She could walk home since this was just on the outskirts of Edge. Tifa turned her head back to Laguna when he mentioned that he had a feeling that something terrible would happen here. So he had been sensing it also. The moment that she got on the outskirts of Edge, she had noticed the darkness that was growing stronger with each passing moment. It was getting more and more powerful. Which also meant that it was getting more and more intimidating. Tifa knew to hold onto her light though. No matter how strong the darkness may appear to be. "Yes...I can sense it too. The darkness is growing stronger. But...darkness can be defeated. With light." Tifa said and she put on a small smile. Tifa was always an optimistic person. She tried to keep this view even in times of trouble. It kept her going. When Laguna asked what happened to the city, Tifa sighed. Not because of annoyance. But because of the memory that it brought up.
"This is actually the remains of the city of Midgar. Midgar was once a very powerful city. But...it was destroyed in one of the last battles that were fought on the planet." Tifa said as she looked around. She remembered the city of Midgar pretty well. And she remembered the day that it got destroyed very well. Tifa turned her head for a moment looking back to the other. Someone else was there now. "C-Cloud..." Tifa said to herself and she took one step forward. Cloud was here. Tifa was relieved even more now. She knew of Cloud's strength and his potential. He would be very good to have around. Only issue would be him and the darkness. She wondered. Would the words she spoke to him of light from last time remain? She hoped so.
Tifa locked her eyes on him for a moment and then turned back to Genesis who was speaking to Cloud. He was speaking of someone from what Tifa could tell. And Tifa was able to tell who it was. Sephiroth. So this man did know Sephiroth. And Sephiroth was going to be here. Tifa looked to Cloud. Cloud was strong enough. She knew it. And if he needed it...he had support. The support of her, Vincent and even Laguna. She drew her gloves from her pocket and slid them on her hands. She raised her fists ready to fight.

A few moments pause, and Vincent spoke again, humoring the perspective of the man who's colors mirrored his own. "LOVELESS..." Genesis, however, seemed to be more interested in the threat they represented than indulging in the interpretations of the text he held so near and dear to his heart. Vincent shifted his weight on his other leg as he stood on the steel girder near Genesis, not intimidated by the fact the man had noticed his presence. The wind picked up around them at this altitude, blowing back the edges of his cape away from where they drapped over his shoulders and arms, tussling back raven black locks of his hair. He had not yet drawn his weapon Cerberus, as he percieved no threat as of yet, not until Genesis showed some signs of hostility.
Maybe yet this could be talked out, so at least Vincent could say he saught reason before violence. At the mention of the words of the black-winged angel before them, Vincent turned his attention to the mention of the friend of Zack Fair, and saw Cloud in his place. Who exactly was this Zack Fair, and what was the connection between he shared between Cloud and this mysterious man? Crimson eyes focused on Cloud for a moment, and he gave him a curt yet respectful nod, a silent message shared between his mutual companion as if to say Yes, I know, guard Tifa as strongly as she would guard you. Not that he needed to tell that, more of a indication if Cloud was ready for this. The swordsman answered with sheathing his First Tsuragi fusion sword from his back, and wielding it before him.
The second person Genesis turned his attention to was the man Vincent sensed almost immediately as he did, who began speaking to Tifa as if she knew her. Vincent's eyes flickered to the man who had been in his peripheral vision, and saw a man who looked as if he could have been a civilian, and yet the bright attire of his clothing said otherwise. He spoke to Tifa as if seeing the ruins of Midgar for the first time, and Vincent knew immediately he was from another world. Vincent eyed the machine gun on his belt, a weapon only military personel carried, and wondered if Tifa could trust this man with his own safety around a product Jenova. Perhaps if it came down to it he could help with cover-fire support, as he knew from wielding Gryphon that machine guns could be fired from at least medium range depending on the type, but unless there was more than one enemy why waste a thousand bullets when you only needed a few with a handgun to get the job done?
Almost immediately Genesis further doubted this thought of the number of enemies present when he wielded his saber and pointed a figure in the distance. The demon man didn't need enhanced sharp sight to kiss the one wing which also petruded from the back of this man, which was also greyish-black but also had long, silver hair and carried a sword longer than himself. Sephiroth. The last time he had seen Cloud's rival was in the Deep Jungle world to try and convince Angeal to serve 'Mother' once more. Vincent had escaped from that jungle fire the fight had caused. and did not know what became of the one-winged angels, but had succeeded at least to prove in Angeal's mind Sephiroth had gone insane and joining his side would be a bad idea. He was just about as powerful as Genesis and considered Cloud to be the only one who could defeat him, but Vincent was curious to see if his newly discovered powers of Chaos was enough to meet the strength of the former 1st class SOLIDER and give Cloud a break from having to face him.
Words spoken by Tifa filled his ears as he turned away from the distant figure of Sephiroth on top of the old Shinra building, the tallest building in Midgar, keeping her in the corner of his eye as he kept his focus mainly on Genesis. She was talking to the civilian man who had approached her, and Vincent noticed the eerie calm she exuded from her tone. She seemed so unwavering in her confidence, especially now Cloud was here, perhaps even because he was present too. Their fight on Spira's beach had been a long and exhausting one, but they had pulled through it, just like they would perserveer through this encounter. Althought, she spoke about light overcoming the darkness... Vincent never thought of himself having light unless it counted from his Protomateria, his history and his powers always seemed to involve the darkness.
Maybe it was darkness within light...
His attention was drawn to Genesis once more as there was suddenly action, and Valentine watched as the girder he was standing on was severed and fell towards Cloud. Vincent didn't react, confident because Cloud had already drawn his weapon, and the fact the man had reflexes as quick as a beartrap and just as deadly. Genesis had taken flight up into the sky towards the sun, so that the AVALANCHE members and the man with the machine gun couldn't follow him. Vincent hadn't drawn his weapon, or hadn't even moved, seeing no point in taking action just yet. Genesis hadn't done anything to harm anyone yet, and he ex-Turk wanted to see if this battle could be won with intellect first before battle.
Just in case Genesis did attack from above however, he made his move, jumping from the girder he was on and down the ruins of the Sister Ray to another platform below. From here, the shade would allow him to see Genesis in case he made an aerial assault. He looked to Tifa, who put her gloves on, hoping she was ready. The man in blue would have to be ready whether he liked it or not, now drawn into this situation, and Vincent hoped he wouldn't need to pull him out of harm's way more times than he was worth, but he would do so anyway. Confident Cloud would be able to protect himself from a piece of metal he could easily cleave in half if he wanted to, he observed the one winged angels above them, waiting for the next move.
He knew they would be up to no good, but he would not stoop to their level and be the monsters that attacked first... he had enough sins he had already made up for, a redemption which brought about peace, that was still worth fighting for.

Sephiroth was observing Genesis and the others from afar, waiting for Cloud to come to him. Genesis was taunting them and Sephiroth knew that it would spark their anger. Their hate and resentment amused Sephiroth and he knew it blinded them from the truth. They were all useless pawns of the planet and they needed someone to guide them to the promised land. Sephiroth was that single being to guide the planet amongst the cosmos and start a new land in the form of Jenova.
The clouds above them proceeded to swirl around ominously as if they had predicted Sephiroth's plans. Usually Sephiroth would work alone and he had resented Genesis after the events many years ago, but he gave him forgiveness. Genesis was a friend, but he knew when it was time to listen. Working with an old comrade would just make his job easier and he thought Angeal would of been a perfect third to their trio. The Red and Black duo would reap the world of its light and shroud it in darkness and despair. No Heartless would tell them what they could do with the world because finally the planet would be Jenova's.
Sephiroth gazed over the gray city of Midgar from the top of the ruined Shinra building. Shinra was a fool for trying to use mother as a means of power. "I know you can sense me, Cloud. Give up the light that you so dearly hold and drown it into the pool of darkness." He knew Cloud could feel him and perhaps Sephiroth still had control over the mindless puppet. Sephiroth was ready to finish what was started.

The black haired man folded his arms across his chest, cupping one of his elbows in hand and used the vertical arm to rest his chin on. Tiltings his head downards slightly, he stared at the floor, mainly at Tifa's feet while he ran what she said through his head a couple of times. Even so, trying to understand what exactly the monk said about a 'fight for the planet', Laguna was still unable to shake off that awfully bad feeling he was getting. There was something dark and evil in this area and obviously with something of that nature, it wasn't going to be time to hold hands and have a tea-party. No. Fighting the evil was important and required a serious amount of dedication and concentration. One slip up and it would be your last. Simple as that.
Kiros and Ward were always there to help out Laguna though whenever things got awkward, but the President of Esthar was a capable man himself. Sure, he might just like any other ordinary human. Cut him and he'll bleed, but inside that confused and idiotic head of his, burned a passion to protect the weak and innocent like no other... along side writing stories as a journalist and to explore and adventure the world... well, worlds now. Not that Laguna knew of the many worlds out there. He was still new to this place. That wasn't of any concern though. The ex-Galbadian Soldier was actually enjoying himself. This certainly was considerably more exciting then staying in his office all day, bored out of his mind. This was a welcomed break from the daily routines and Presidential duties.
The sound of Tifa taking out her gloves and sliding them onto her fists, broke the father's attention and caused him to raised up his head and return his bright green eyes to the female monk. One of his eyebrows raised up slightly before being joined by the second shortly after, with one of his fingerless gloves hands coming up to join him, rubbing slightly at the back of his head in mild embarrassment. "Ahh... I knew it. This 'bad feeling'... you feel it too right, and you've obviously spotted the cause for it too..." Laguna wasn't an idiot... Well, he was actually, but that's not the point. He knew when he needed to knuckle down and start to get serious. Sure, he wasn't on any level in regards to strength or stamina compared to Tifa, Cloud or Vincent, but his ability to wield his machine gun with deadly accuracy at practically any range that the weapon could fire at, should prove useful. Then again, Tifa was just a martial artist, judging from appearances anyway. It was unlikely she had Mako or JENOVA Cells with her body to help enhance her abilities. Either way, the Light gave the heroes their strength and if it came to it, Laguna would fight with every last ounce of his soul.
Letting out a slightly worried sigh, Laguna threw his arm behind his back and took hold of the handle of his Standard Issue Galbadian Assault Machine Gun. In less then a second, he'd already taken the clip out, checked the magazine for ammunition and reinserted it back into the metal weapon, flicking the safety off and slamming his hand down against the level not far from the trigger, loading the first bullet from the magazine into the firing chamber. With a smug grin, he posed and placed his weapon on his shoulder, glancing at Tifa for any approval. She seemed much too focused on whatever she was looking at to notice though, and Laguna just sighed slightly, half expecting to see Kiros and Ward to his side, shaking their heads at him in amusement. The President looked too his side and just felt that weight grow heavier on his shoulder what his two best friends weren't there.
Shaking it off though, Laguna finally looked off in the direction Tifa was and caught sight of what was obviously giving him this bad feeling. A man in a crimson leather coat and... a wing? Laguna had to blink, and then blink a second time, following by a rub of his eyes. Yup, that man certainly had a wing. Well, after all the stuff he had come across in Archipelago, it was only going to be time before he saw something else weird. Noticing something that resembled a chocobo for a second, Laguna peered off towards Cloud, noticing his massive sword and his cold, focused eyes. He looked interesting and the Journalist quickly pulled out his notebook and scribbled down a few sentences, mainly about Cloud's appearance and a reminder saying to seek him out at a later date. Then there was the other fellow in crimson. He was harder to kiss and he felt slightly suspicious as well, but judging from the fact that he was facing the male with the wing, Laguna drew up a conclusion that he was on the same side as the chocobo-haired lad, and hopefully, himself and Tifa.
"Who're they?" Laguna said after taking a small side step towards Tifa and lowering his voice slightly to whisper, as if not wanting either Cloud, Vincent or Genesis to hear him. He was just being careful as always and both his hands were on his gun own, one hand gripping the handle with his finger on the trigger with the other on the barrel to keep the weapon steady. He wasn't aiming at anything though, yet his posture itself was slightly hunched, as if he were crouching down slightly to avoid being seen by the three other men, as well as trying to remain unheard. He was just drawing more attention to himself doing this though, but it wasn't bothering him.

It did not take long for Cloud's presence to be noticed by the others. He had been vaguely watching the strange man speaking to Tifa some distance away for a while, though his real attention was clearly on Genesis, but he did notice when his childhood friend spotted him. He was certain that he saw his name form on her lips, but his attention was quickly directed back to the man clad in red when he heard Genesis clearly address him. Friend of Zack Fair....yes, that indeed he was, though hearing his old friend's name still gave Cloud a fair bit of pain. Aerith had forgiven him for what had happened to her....but Zack? Cloud had never been able to connect with the man again, and he still felt the guilt for the SOLDIER's death - not to mention everything that happened afterwards, what with identities and mixed stories and....
No, this was certainly not the time to think about that - not with Genesis here, and....that feeling. There was something even darker present than simply Genesis, offering a suffocating feeling within Cloud's body that could only ever be attributed to one being. The one person that no matter how hard Cloud fought him, no matter how many times he was defeated, he simply always came back in the end. When Genesis spoke again - and it seemed the ex-SOLDIER did know his real name - his words only affirmed what the blonde was coming to realize, but had been unwilling to admit. He was here....Sephiroth.
Before Cloud could give any real reaction, however, Genesis had already taken action, sending a large piece of steel hurtling towards the swordsman's head. Not about to be caught off-guard, Cloud quickly rolled to the side to avoid the bulk of the deadly obstruction, and used First Tsuragi to cut through the little that still posed a threat to him as it fell. Mako eyes quickly flicked across the entire scene, and he noted that Genesis seemed to have disappeared from his vision for the moment, and Vincent had relocated. Tifa and the other strange man looked ready for a battle as well, and to Cloud's slight relief at least the strange man had a weapon of sorts. - a machine gun. He was uncertain how much good it would be against their current threat, but then...every little bit helped.
As Cloud quickly recovered from his manoeuvre, he felt the dark presence grow even stronger. His gaze flicked across the horizon, desperately looking for the source....until finally they fell upon a familiar silhouette, still some distance above him but present all the same. "Why can't you just stay where you belong?" Cloud asked himself more than anyone else as he shook his head for a moment, trying to not let his thoughts go down the dark paths that they were already trying to go towards - the obvious futility in defeating Sephiroth if he was only going to keep coming back, the fact that he had been almost defeated by the silver-haired man several times in the past and had only been successful because of the intervention of others, of just what could happen to Gaia if he failed this time....all those thoughts were pressing into the blonde's mind against his better judgement, but he tried to keep them at bay.
This time, however, Cloud was not alone - Tifa and Vincent were here. If they worked together....he was certain that the two enemies could be defeated. Even Genesis had said something about the odds being formidable, and though his words may have been in his twisted form of sarcasm, Cloud was determined to make them real. "Vincent! Tifa!" Cloud then called out, rushing across the short distance that had seperated him from Tifa as he fell in place carefully between her and the strange man with the machine gun. He had still not come to a real judgement about the other man, but he had noted him scribbling something or other on a piece of paper when he was vaguely watching him earlier....and that seemed a bit suspicious. However, if he was willing to help in this impending battle, Cloud was not going to complain about that - he would find out who the man was later, when he had time for that sort of formality.
Cloud met Tifa's eyes with his own for only a moment before he located Vincent, and then began to search for Genesis. The man was using the sun to cloak himself, but he would not be able to do so for long, even with that black wing that Cloud had come to associate with so much darkness in the worlds. "Don't think you can take this world so easily!" Cloud then called out to his two adversaries - perhaps his words were meant more for Sephiroth than for Genesis, but it was the latter who was currently doing the attacking, so it had meaning for both, "I'll defeat you as many times as it takes," Cloud then added much softer, again more to himself than anyone else, a determined look crossing his features for a moment only to be replaced by a dark glare. Eventually the duel would be the last one....someday Sephiroth had to stop coming back. Maybe this could be that day.
With those words, he gave a curt nod towards Tifa at his side, knowing that Vincent would know what to do on his own and hoping he would deal with the problem of Genesis for now as he already seemed to be doing, before he began to make a quick assault on the ruined ShinRa building. He was not going to wait for Sephiroth's imminent attack - no, he knew that the battle was coming, so why forestall it? The sooner it started, the sooner it would be over - and the distance between Cloud and Sephiroth was closing quickly.
[OOC :: Oh gosh, that was probably the worst Cloud post I've ever done, and I'm really sorry it had to be in a plot thread. I just really wanted to get a post out, but at 1.00 AM, I should be asleep >< Hope that gives you guys enough to work with, I'll try to make the next one better]

Indeed Genesis had been using the sun to cloak himself, but as he flew higher something happened that no one could have anticipated. The dark clouds, lingering omens of the darkness, had swept into the area and blanketed the rays of the sun. No longer was light able to shine through the growing storm as the skies had now grown darker, and into them had the SOLDIER flown. Out of sight to all, including his only ally in this battle. Lingering there in between being above the clouds and in them all the same time, his single wing flapped with powerful strokes and his sword gripped firmly within his right hand.
Cloud's words had fallen deaf to him as thunder echoed around him, and every few moments that lightning flickered in the clouds, two or three silhouettes of the warrior could be seen against the light from the bolts. He was not a coward, but rather saw this temporary strategy as a means to keep the combatants on their toes. He held his left hand before him, his green mako lit eyes becoming brighter by the lights that filled the crimson glove. Bringing his hand up to his right shoulder, he then swung it violently in a sweep to his left while releasing his Homing ability downwards through the clouds at his opponents. These balls of Fira would home in on their intended targets, hence the name. He didn't stop there though, as his hand came to his left in the sweep he raised it high then thrust it downwards as he fired four more balls of Homing.
It crossed his mind that Sephiroth had not entered the direct fray yet, and could only imagine what his friend now saw. Dark clouds over the ruins of Midgar, with orbs of fire raining from the sky to seek out their potential targets. Such a shame that Angeal had not answered the call, to the great disappointment of Genesis. His old friend would be dealt with after the Planet belonged to them, and what then? What would his honor prove other than he was too weak to seek a means to end all suffering. Genesis would take his time with this battle. After all, why rush through what could be a very enjoyable experience? The gift of the goddess was with him, as was a friend. He needed only the Planet now.
