Maurelle had portalled to the world herself from the Timeless River. The area looked exactly as she had left it. Bright, happy, and unaware of it's impending doom. The portal continued to flicker behind her as she waited for Valerius to continue through so the portal would shut. The heartless, however, took a few more steps forward, leaned down, and plucked a small flower from it's place on the ground. A content expression appeared as she began to pluck the petals from the flower. She had done this so many time before when she became stressed at the world. Now, she had none of those feelings. It was such a relief. Maurelle shut her eyes, took a deep breath of the air before calmly releasing her breath, smirking, and opening her eyes. "Hmmm..... I can't wait to fix this world. It'll be much nicer with a dark aura."This was going to be like taking candy from a baby. Actually, it would literally be like taking a world from a spoiled prince. Oh, how well the analogy fix. Heh.

Hojo research log, entry 002 After researching more into the field of cross-world travel, I have discovered something. The device itself, works, yes. But it is impossibly difficult to aim. Three times now I've ended up in darkness. So, I just keep firing and hope to land on an inhabited world.
My aim appears to be getting better, after that last jump I could see a world in the distance. Apparently, running a negative current through the device causes the mako battery to overcompensate and damage the aim, so using a positive current produces a more accurate result.
Aha! I see light at the end of the tunnel! I appear to have perfected the calibration on the aimer. I should be able to land on a world without fail now, even if it is completely random and beyond my control. End log.[/i]
A very artifical looking portal seemed to open in the middle of nowhere. A few seconds later, a strange looking man in a lab-coat tumbled out and fell on his back. He quickly picked himself up, dusted himself down, and put his glasses back on his face.
Hojo quickly glanced around, he didn't quite know where he was. But it was better than drifting aimlessly through nothingness. Pulling out his PDA, he made a few notes, before pocketing it and surveying the area. Almost instantly he noticed a young looking woman nearby, and decided he should at least ask where he was.
"Whyy hello dear...would you happen to know where this is?" He grinned a grin that would make even the bravest folk winch.

Valerius' sword hand was still twitching as he stepped through the portal from the Timeless River and into Maurelle's home world of Gradia. He had actually never been to the world before, as it was never one that he had attached any particular significance to, and Mara would be the only reason he would ever visit - and she never wanted to go. For a moment, he thought about his own home world, that place he had not seen in so many years and that's very existence seemed to be nothing more than one of his memories, but those thoughts dissipated from the heartless' mind as quickly as they had appeared.
As Valerius passed through the portal, it sealed closed behind him, lest anyone else have an easy way to invade the castle the heartless had worked so hard to conquer - not that he could see what anyone would want to do with that black and white world he had just been in, but then, one never knew. For a moment, he paused to stretch, his body feeling a bit tight and cramped after laying in the grass for so long - it was a reminder of just how many battles he had put his physical being through. Not that he really cared....or would ever consider stopping. But it was a reminder all the same.
Amber eyes watched his fellow heartless pick a random flower from the field they had portalled to, plucking off its petals one by one, almost as if foreshadowing what they were about to do to this calm world. That thought brought that grin right back to the heartless' face, and he began to walk over to where Maruelle stood, speaking to herself. He had opened his own mouth to speak when his ears suddenly picked up another sound off to the side, and he glanced sideways just in time to see a strange other man pick himself up from the ground and attempt to straighten his dishevelled appearance. Where had he come from? Valerius was certain no one had been there a few moments ago...
Valerius stopped dead in his tracks as he watched the man approach his companion, asking her where they were - that clinched Valerius' thoughts that he honestly had just appeared. And that was quite suspicious. His eyes quickly narrowed and his sword seemed to materialize in his hand out of nowhere. "This is Gradia, some unnamed, insignificant field if you want to know specifically," Valerius then growled in an answer before Maruelle could say anything, quickly moving to stand at his fellow heartless' side, between her and the other man. He had just promised to watch her back, after all, even if it had been said rather sarcastically - but all the same, he felt a bit protective of his only friend. "And if you know what's good for you, you'd go back to where you came from."
Valerius had ever been that great at his people skills. Not that he cared.

"Whyy hello dear...would you happen to know where this is?" Maurelle was never surprised. But, there was a first for everything. It seemed she had not reactivated her powers after leaving the timeless river. So, she had not sensed the man there. Thankfully, Valerius took over for her slack. Heh, when he said he was going to watch her back, he truly meant it. No matter how literally he took it. "This is Gradia, some unnamed, insignificant field if you want to know specifically...And if you know what's good for you, you'd go back to where you came from." She calmly opened her mind again to be able to read the situation a bit better. Now she knew what had happened. With a light stride and a bright smile, she laced her arms around Val's sword arm to calm him a bit. "Relax a bit, Valerius. He's not a threat to us currently. Actually seems like he had a rather interesting background though."With a sigh, Maurelle held her position but let Val go as she took a step to stand next to him, resting her head on his shoulder. "This is Gradia. The content is Aliansa. Nothing special to see here at the moment. But, it'll be a much better place next time you visit, Professor. Is that all you needed help with?"Maurelle loved playing mind games. So, by stating she knew he was a professor would hopefully knock him off his high horse for a moment. Though, he mind was on the upcoming battle. Oh how she couldn't wait. She was sure Valerius was just as excited about this. "Because if that's all you need, then we need to be off to cause a little chaos. Right, Val?" She smiled sweetly thought the cruel intentions flickered from her words. It was such an amusing combination. Innocence and cruelty. Hmm.

Hojo Research Log: 003 Interesting. This woman obviously has some ind of extra-sensory perception that enables her to read my mind, or at the very least, surface thoughts. I shall have to make note of this ability and when the opportunity presents itself, attempt to replicate it.
Jenova's cells typically have the ability to replicate genetic traits, we shall see if mine are similar. Maybe not right away of course...allies might be hard to come by. End log[/i]
Hojo smirked, adjusting his glasses a little. He looked at the man he hadn't noticed initially, and simply maintained his eerie grin. He did not really pay too much attention to what Valerius said, and spun around on the spot, and muttered something to himself. He didn't even notice, or rather didn't pay attention to, Valerius' threat and paced a little.
Stopping as Maurelle called him a professor, he turned at her, and his grin widened so much, it would make the Cheshire Cat envious.
"Oooh. Now that is an interesting trick you've got there. Can I ask its origin? Experimentation? Natural Gift? Mutation? Magic? "
Hojo seemed worryingly interested in Maurelle's ability. He approached the pair slowly, a mad gleam in his eyes.
His next action was to test the limit of Maurelle's ability, almost subconciously and automatically.
"Now dear, if you can really tell about my past, then you'll know what I want. More subjects to experiment, and further the cause of science. And of course, I would be very grateful should you be able to show me how that little trick of yours works..." He thought this to himself, as loudly as he could (if it is possible to think loudly, he noted). If for some reason she could not read his mind, then he would make a re-assesment to how useful this power of hers would be.

Relax a bit?
That was the absolute last thing Valerius could do at the moment. Not only was his mind racing with the thought of their impending attack upon and otherwise general destruction of this peaceful world his feet were currently planted on, but there was something about this strange man that was managing to get under the heartless' skin. He seemed to hold some awkward level of self-confidence that Valerius was uncertain he really deserved to have, and he just seemed....well, a bit noisy. Plus, he had basically ignored Valerius completely and focused simply on Maurelle, which was the final straw as far as annoying the orange-haired heartless. He really did not like being ignored, especially by someone he had deemed at least partly his enemy for the time being.
However, somewhat listening to Mara's orders, Valerius remained silent as she so calmly explained the situation to the man, and he noted that she addressed him as 'professor.' So, she was invading his mind a bit - that was positive, and a slight smirk tugged at the corners of his lips. He then gave a curt nod when she mentioned that the two were going to cause a bit of chaos, twirling his sword around in what he saw as a pretty flashy manner for emphasis, all the while keeping his other shoulder steady where Mara was resting her head. Amber eyes glanced down at her for a moment, that strangely protective feeling coursing though his veins for a moment again, but he quickly shook it off as his concentration switched back to the professor when he spoke.
His inquisitive words struck another bad cord within the heartless, and his smirk quickly disappeared. "You can shut it and drop the subject, Professor," Valerius said darkly, the words more spat at the man than stated, but he quickly closed his mouth once again with another quick glance at his companion. She had told him to relax, and seemed very calm herself, but the more high-strung man was having a hard time with that request. "Why don't we just get going?" he then almost whined a bit to Maurelle, that itching feeling to start the battle growing more intense by the second, and he had no desire for this conversation to continue.

"Oooh. Now that is an interesting trick you've got there. Can I ask its origin? Experimentation? Natural Gift? Mutation? Magic?" Maurelle sighed lightly at the questions. "Natural gift, I suppose." But she was suddenly overwhelmed with his subconscious and all his questions. It was a lot to deal with and Maurelle was getting bored with the little man. "Now dear, if you can really tell about my past, then you'll know what I want. More subjects to experiment, and further the cause of science. And of course, I would be very grateful should you be able to show me how that little trick of yours works..."
"You can shut it and drop the subject, Professor. Why don't we just get going?" "The gift is not yours to know. That would be a weakness if I were to tell you, Hojo. I'd like to not end up how everyone around you has. Sephiroth seemed worse enough from what I've gathered on the being. Now, we'll be going. I am not obligated to help you in the slightest and you are interrupting our fun."Maurelle said to Hojo telepathically. Her lips not moving until she smiled and took Val's arm and started to pull him off. "Sure, Mr. Impatient. Let's go before you kill the Professor." Maurelle sounded rather amused at the whine, and yanked him off toward the town she grew up. "Heh, this is going to be so much fun. Don't you agree?" She asked, letting his arm go. The town wasn't that large. But it looked rather busy for this time of day.
