Even in the daytime, little light seeped into the part of the jungle Yuna stood in. The canopies overhead shadowed the area and the twisting vines and gnarled branches were all murky browns and greens. A light mist lingered and snaked through the trees. Yuna was in the centre of a small clearing. The trees parted enough for a patch of blue sky to be seen, but it was fringed by dark greenery. Apart from the jungle creatures the place was completely isolated- which was exactly what she wanted. She needed this moment alone. Perhaps it was selfish of her, but this was... a personal matter. What she was about to do she had not been able to do in Spira for over four years, but in a distant world she vaguely recalled... If I am able to, she reminded herself, biting her lip. What would it mean if she was able to? Was it a good thing or a bad thing? She didn’t know... but... Tidus would tell her she was worrying too much. She hadn’t even tried yet. After she had, then she could worry about the future. Stilling her fidgeting, the young woman sucked in a deep breath. Finally, she raised the staff she’d been clutching for the past half hour, holding it up high with both hands before pulling it back in towards herself. Then she closed her eyes, allowing all else around her to fade to black. From the recesses of her heart she called out to the skies. She freed one arm to reach before her and drew the staff away and behind her with the other, as if stretching an arrow in a bow. The ground beneath her began to glow, the light streaming out into intricate symbols that formed a magic circle under her feet. The circle’s light pulsated and rose around her before bursts of light shot off spiralling into the sky like fireworks. When the light settled and faded once more, Yuna’s eyes were still closed. Nothing around her shifted. The tree leaves still wavered in the breeze and the jungle birds still cawed in the distance. Yuna’s eyes fluttered open to reflect back the empty sky. Her arms dropped to her side, the little bell at the end of her staff jingling. “Oh well,” she said softly. “Wishful thinking.”She lowered her head and swirled around to make her way back to camp when a faint whoosh sound stopped her. Her eyes widened a fraction. She waited, fingers tightening around her staff. Could it be?Soon she could hear it loud as an airship, diving closer and closer. Her heart hammered in her chest. When the force of the wind at last washed over her, rustling the layers of her hair, she turned back frantically to search the skies. She needn’t have worried, the magnificent creature shrieked directly above her. She gasped. The aeon’s hooked wings fanned out before her in sunset hues, the three golden rings that hung from the curves jutting out of its body clanging. The fierce eyes pierced into Yuna from the birdlike head. Again, a cry tore from its parted beak. Yuna dropped her staff, but instead of moving back, carefully, she stepped towards the creature and reached out. She stroked the bright red feathers around its neck. Calmed, Valefor flapped its wings lightly and lowered its talons onto the jungle floor. Yuna’s fingers still curled into its feathers, it cast its head down, allowing the girl to press her head against it momentarily, before she let go and broke into a smile. ”Hello again, old friend.”The aeons were like her friends. She was not at first so personable with them, for she knew their true reason for joining her was to defeat Sin. They were companions that shared the same duty. But... after Sin had been destroyed... even then, the Fayth had aided her, had listened to her, and granted her one wish. For that, she would be forever grateful. When she stepped back to look upon the great being that was so much larger than her, her previous concerns were forgotten. Instead, countless memories resurfaced within her. Her first summoning, the aeon saving her life when she plummeted in Bevelle, the sacrifices made to defeat Sin... then two years later... Yuna’s expression wavered. She bowed her head partially. ”I’m sorry. I didn’t want to hurt you.”Though she knew it was necessary. Paine had made her see that. Words rang through her mind; ”We had no choice.” Yuna shook her head and gazed at the aeon fully, shoulders straight. Though her staff was beside her, she stood now in her gunner clothes, the same warm-hearted young woman, but no longer constrained by Yevon’s teachings or anyone else’s. "I'm different now." She smiled, clear-eyed. “No more sacrificing.” ((Just for anyone not familiar with the aeon: Valefor.))

((OOC: ^.^ Alright, Lief muse is fired up!!!))
“Oh for the love of the Queen!” Lief spat as he walked back into the clearing he had been through at least a dozen times before. “No way out of this freaken mess of vines? Really? Come on! Even the BOGS weren’t like this in Ivalice!” The young hunter kicked a near by tree in anger.
Fuming loudly, the ex-poacher took his face into his hands. “Alright, going up the wide path leads to the stupid camp. Bah… the others go in freaken circles!” He removed his hands. “What the hell am I suppose to do? Climb a TREE?!” Exhaling in anger again Lief placed both of his hands behind his head and bowed it fowar. “No use in yelling, I guess. I’ll just head back to the camp and hopefully find someone who I can hitch a ride off of. Should of freaken took the one the charges offered me.”
With his anger still sort of bubbling within, Lief set off back towards the camp. The hunter was pretty good at navigating through small places, but the sheer MAZE of the jungle seemed to catch him off guard. He was so use to directness, point A to point B, no scenic route; so this was a whole new experience for him. Careful to make sure that the vines he was pulling on weren’t snakes (like heck he needed another surprise), the young deviant made his way towards another clearing.
WHOOSH
“What the-?!” The hunter had jumped back in alarm. A huge dragon-bird hybrid flew over his head and landed, presumably, in the clearing ahead of him. Mouth ajar and brown eyes blinking in shock, the Hunter shook his head to stop ogling. “Pull it together Ramses, you’ve seen plenty of stranger things.” He muttered to himself, edging forward in the brush.
Finally he was able to see the creature. It had landed onto the ground, wings spread and strangely, pretty nonagressively, walked towards a…
“Holy Judges of Ivalice…” Lief let out a low whistle at the women who was standing before the animal. If anything was the magnificent creature, Lief know it was the girl in that outfit before him.
And that’s when his hunter instincts kicked in.
No way that creature is going to stay that calm for that long. Women’s touch only goes so far… Using that as his excuse to play the hero, Lief slide the great bow off his arm and fitted an arrow from his quiver into it. Taking careful aim at the creature’s wing, the young deviant was just about to fire off one heck of a shot…
Then a snake decided to crawl down his arm.
“HOLY SHEEE-!!!” the hunter toppled sideways into the clearing, throwing the snake off of him in disgust. It hissed at him, but he shut it up with the arrow straight to its head. Now a bit pissed again, Lief whirled around, expertly getting another arrow into the bow at lightening speed. This time he aimed for the summon creature’s head. “You’re next bird… dragon… thing!” He growled.
The summon wasn’t intimidating to him in the slightest, the man had once stood up to judges, so Lief wasn’t too worried that he was standing rather close to it for such a long ranged weapon. The creature would do nothing but hurt him, like any other monster, and that was only if it got the first strike.
That wasn’t going to happen.
((OOC: I'm so proud of this, right here. I can hear Lief saying "Holy Judges of Ivalice" in my head and I die laughing each time))

With her very first aeon before her again after so many years, Yuna had her thoughts wrapped around how this changed things and what it meant for Spira. She didn’t hear the young man treading through the area. Not at first. Only the whistle was able to rip through her thoughts, alerting her to another presence. But the sound also triggered memories. The brunette’s head snapped towards the trees, mind reeling images of the docks of Luca, where a cheery young man had taught her to whistle so long ago.
The signal?
But the person shaded by the leaves was far too quiet and concentrated to be the energetic guardian she was hoping for. Yuna didn’t have time to be taken aback as the young man’s intentions quickly become clear. Her eyes widened when he pointed his arrow at the creature looming over her.
”Valefor, ascend!”
He was too close. Even if she commanded Valefor to fly there wouldn’t be enough time to escape a shot from that distance. The aeon cawed, agitated by the elongated curse that boomed out of the hunter and propelled itself up into the air. Yuna side-stepped beneath it. She winced at the sight of the hunter throwing aside a snake, its head slamming into the ground, but couldn’t allow her concentration to linger there. Her hands moved immediately to her holsters.
Not today.
By the time the trespasser had raised his bow again, Yuna was facing him, pistol pointed. She held the gun steadily in both hands, arms stretched out before her. In one swift movement, Valefor pushed both of its wings forward together, sending a torrent of air rushing towards the man with the bow. If it didn’t knock him off his feet, it would at least throw him off balance.
Valefor shrieked behind her, but Yuna did not flinch at the sound. Brows knit together, the gunner aimed her handgun at the hunter’s arm. She would avoid hurting him if she could, but if he tried to shoot, she would disable his arm. Her next words were spoken slowly, her tone unexpectedly determined for such a feminine voice.
”You will drop your weapon.”
She had lost the aeons twice before already. She would not lose them again. This time, she would do the protecting... but... as she studied the young man’s appearance, nothing about his clothing or his weapon appeared familiar to her. He was definitely not of Spira, so it was unlikely that he had been sent after her from someone. Besides... who was there left in Spira who would wish to attack the aeons of the High Summoner who defeated Sin anyway?
She faltered. Perhaps... he was an innocent. But then, Valefor was doing nothing threatening. She had the situation under control. Why attack? Whatever the man’s intentions, she could not lower her weapon until she could be sure he wasn’t a threat.
”Who... are you?” The Heartless had already taken over this world. The main camp had been abandoned. Why would someone remain? A rumour Yuna had heard from Leon about Sora’s visits here suddenly came to mind. Something about a man wanting to hunt down creatures here Sora helped to protect... what were they called? Something beginning with a ‘G’. She suddenly felt more protective of Valefor.
“I won’t let you hurt the aeon.”
((OOC: Apologies for the delay. I've been pretty ill. However, I love how the tone of your post contrasted with my first one. I laughed so hard at Lief's phrases!))

An animal lover?[/I] Lief almost growled as his opportune moment of being the hero was cut across by the very women he was trying to impress. I thought summoners were only viera? And when the hell do humes get to carry guns?! But before Lief could make heads or tales of his thoughts, the huge bird like summon creature, who was obviously a summon on closer observation, took off into the sky, blasting wind at the hunter. Having been in many engagements where Sages used Aero and Illusionists used Wild Tornado, Lief knew how to take the attack without having himself blown over. He lowered his body to fight the wind. It pushed him back quite a few feet and made him drop his ready-to-fire stance, but the ex-poacher wasn’t out of the game quite yet.
Looking back up he found that the gunner’s pistol were pointed at his arm, a similar manner to that of an archer using Aim:Arm to disable an opponent. Defensive, hmm? Lief raised his arm and pointed the arrow strait at the woman’s heart.
“You WILL drop your weapon.”
Lief snorted, he never liked being told what to do. “Sorry cutie, that’s not happening.”
They stood staring at each other for a minute neither of them moving a muscle. Lief was half daring the women to shoot. He hadn’t been this close to an engagement in a while, and already he could feel the adrenaline starting to go through his veins. It was exciting him, even if he really didn’t want to fight the women.
Then he saw the falter in her eyes.
This one’s in the bag. She hadn’t lowered her weapon, which meant she still found him a threat, but the emotion in her eyes proved that she wasn’t sure about attacking him. The next question though, throw him a curve ball.
Who am I?[/I] Lief blinked a bit, but didn’t lower his weapon. Huh… what an interesting question to ask. The young deviant could do nothing but smirk at the question and wink back at the women. “Lief Ramses is the name. Former member of the Tiger Skins Clan.”
Obviously that didn’t faze the women. For she still stood there, protectively of her bird-dragon thing, gun still pointed at him.
“I won’t let you hurt the aeon.”[/I]
Lief was laughing after that statement. “Won’t let me? Ha! Alright then, shoot me.” a smirk had appeared on the young mans face, brown eyes sparkling with a challenge.
The hunter hadn’t lowered his bow though. True, he doubted the women would shoot him, but with women you never know. The girl could be psycho when she was angry… the pretty ones usually were.
And boy is she pretty.
((OOC: ^.^ glad you were laughing, now you see a bit more of a serious side of him. Sorry for the... "meh"ness of certain spots though.))

Cutie?
Yuna’s face burned, but she held her ground, only tensing when the hunter didn’t put down his bow, instead moving it away from the aeon towards herself. She pressed her lips together, brows furrowing just a bit more. At least his weapon and attention were focused away from Valefor now. Good. Keep your eyes on me. Now if only she could find a way to divert his attention long enough to send Valefor away again...
A flicker of confusion travelled over Yuna’s face at the young man’s introduction. Tiger Skins... What was the clan’s purpose? Was he here to hunt tigers in the jungle? If that was the case he would be left disappointed, because the only animal remotely tiger-like here was a shadowy leopard. But then he said he was no longer associated with the group... She tried to rack her brain for any trace or memory of a Lief Ramses, but drew a blank.
But why would anyone attack an aeon? The question irked her. He seemed to know what an aeon was and the creatures were well-known as protectors, except for...
A memory hit her and Yuna’s expression dropped... The aeons had fallen to darkness once, when they’d been lurking in the temples lashing out at anything that entered. Had he been attacked by one that was out of control? But then he would have had to go through the Cloister of Trials, and only guardians and their summoners could pass through there.
But then... Tidus had barged through before he officially became one too.
She flinched at the young man’s laughter. She frowned. Innocent or not, the man before her was stubborn. From the look on his face... he almost seemed to be enjoying the situation, which only frustrated her even more so. Her heart began to race. She didn’t like this. He had called upon her weakness. Yuna was a gentle soul. She did not like to hurt others, especially without reason, but she didn’t want to lose control of the situation either.
Oh poopie.
There was a long pause, only the faint sways and cries of the jungle echoing about them and Valefor’s wings beating in their ears, but in the end, no trigger was pulled. Yuna was strong, but she was a poor negotiator in danger.
“First tell me, what do you want with the aeon?” The edge was still in the High Summoner’s voice, but after another pause, it subsided and her gun-hand lowered the tiniest bit, her gaze more attentive towards the young man’s expression. If he had seen the dark aeon... Her tone grew melancholy. “If... you were hurt by her... she won’t cause any more damage. Everything’s under control now. Nothing like that will ever happen again...” Her fingers tightened over her gun again. “So just leave her alone!”

((OOC: “Oh poopie” HAHAHAHA! And for some reason Yuna so perfectly counteracts Lief it’s so cute.))
Gotcha.
Humans were just like animals, you find their weakness and they’ll back off, you scare them and they’ll fight back. A life of poaching taught Lief exactly how to deal with animals and when best to strike… it also helped him tremendously in situations like this.
The women had resorted to talking. She hadn’t even sent the creature out of reach. You’re making a mistake, sweetheart.
She was braking. Though she tried to stay tough through her words, Lief could see how she wavered, how her resolve wasn’t exactly all there.
He was smirking at her first question, but as soon as she went on, the Hunter’s face frowned in confusion. What the hell is she talking about? But the slight determination in her voice brought Lief back, she felt that the creature, aeon she called it, was threatened. It was just like a lioness protecting it’s young, this women was protecting that creature. It was time Lief put an end to this.
“Look darling, just lower the gun. I know you ain’t going to shoot and I really don’t want to hurt that pretty face of yours. So make this easier for the two of use and lower the gun.” Lief kept his voice smooth, despite not lowering his bow. “As for this aeon thing? I don’t even know what that is. It looked like it could of killed you and with my background with animals, I know exactly how to take care of it. I was doing nothing more then trying to help ya, sweetheart. So do me a favor, put that pretty little weapon back in its holster. I’ll put my bow down as soon as you do.”
Lief shift the bow over to be aimed at the women’s shoulder as he talked. He was trying his best to be prepared to fire encase she was serious about this protection crap, but trying to get some truth behind his words. He wanted to know more about this so called “aeon” and exactly what they were in reference to the women. If he could control a beast of that sort of strength and power…
Brown eyes drifted to the creature as he awaited the response from the women. There was a sparkle of adventure that ignited in his eyes, the same that he had back when he was poaching, not that the gunner in front of him knew that. What he could do with such a creature at his beck and call…
The fame the creature would bring: Lief Ramses, the Aeon Capturer. It had a sort of ring to it, and it sent waves of delight through the young deviant. A smirk of excitement couldn’t help but edge up on his face.
This was going to be perfect indeed.

“If you know I’m not going to shoot, why don’t you lower your own weapon first?”
The young man wasn’t the only one who knew how to be stubborn, and there was something just a tiny bit patronising in his tone that made Yuna distrust him somehow. His words may have tried to convince her he was on her side, but his body language told another story. He didn’t seem hesitant at all. If he would just lower his weapon for a few moments she could be sure there was enough time to send Valefor away without him having the chance to get a good enough aim at the aeon... but then, she knew that wasn’t going to happen.
That’s funny. He seemed to know what an aeon was.
Something was a little off, but perhaps he really did think Valefor was trying to hurt her. Yuna was used to her aeons, but to those who had never seen one, the beasts could look formidable. She wouldn’t lower her weapon, not quite yet. With the hunter’s arrow pointed away from her heart, she could dismiss Valefor knowing that if the hunter shot now, he would at least not be doing any critical damage, but first...
“She would never hurt me.” It was said simply, honestly. For it was true, the aeons trusted their summoner and protected them with their lives when attached to them. The beings were only driven to darkness when Shuyin had preyed upon their souls in the Farplane. If Lief truly had never seen an aeon, Yuna wanted to prove that they were not a threat to civilians.
“Watch,” and without turning, she stepped back to raise her arm fully above her, her gun still held deftly in the other. A moment later the creature’s cold white beak slipped into her hand, nuzzling her. When it lowered its head some more Yuna stroked its feathers, unable to suppress a slight smile. She patted the creature once before allowing her hand to drop to her side.
“Alright, Valefor,” she spoke slowly, so as not to alarm the man. She didn’t want him to shoot even accidentally. “It’s time to go home.”
There was a huge pulse of air as the aeon beat her wings hard a few times. Yuna dug her boots into the ground. Then Valefor launched herself out of the clearing, the trees all shaking in her wake, and dove straight up into the sky, until soon she disappeared behind the clouds. Some of the tension in Yuna’s shoulders released.
“Aeons are the sort of guardians of summoners. They hear our calls and come down to us,” she explained, with a sort of calm gravity. “They’re protectors of the people, ready to aid their summoners in battle and sacrifice themselves in order to destroy evil. They’re brave and selfless souls.
“The one you almost shot down,” she continued, with a trace of bitterness, “was my very first summon.” She took a breath, her anger subsiding. “She saved my life, you know.” Then, and only then, Yuna lowered her gun. Lief had only pointed his weapon at Valefor initially, so there was still a good chance he would lower his bow. The brunette picked up her staff.
“So... please be careful before you attack. Not all beasts are monsters. If you see a person nearby carrying a staff, like this, they’re likely to be a summoner and the aeon is probably protecting them from a fiend.” That was if the other summoners had regained their aeons too, but she would have to worry about that later. For now, she would wait patiently for the young man to lower his weapon. She may have answered Lief’s questions for the moment, but in time he would have to answer hers as well.
“Pardon me, but... why are you here...? If you’re looking for the camp, it's that way, but no one resides there anymore...”

“If you know I’m not going to shoot, why don’t you lower your own weapon first?”
Lief smirked, the woman was smarter then she appeared to be on the surface. “Cause big bad beasty over there can still hurt us.” he said simply. Being the stubborn and protective person he was, he wouldn’t lower the bow till the woman shot his arm off or he knew she wasn’t about to pull a fast one on him. Poachers made mistakes when they became cocky, and allowing that creature an open shot at him wasn’t on his to-do-list.
But the summoner’s next actions (she obviously was a summoner right?), tensed the Hunter. “Hey! Hold it…” Lief shifted the arrow back at the summon now as he worriedly watched the women edge towards it. I don’t care if you say it’s not going to hurt you. Beasts are beasts, they hurt when they get hurt. But the creature was almost like a chocobo towards the woman, gently rubbing it’s beak into her hand. Lief faltered a bit, his arrow pointing downwards in his sort of awe. Suddenly, the creature looked a load less threatening. How the HELL did she do that? That was a power Lief wanted for himself, to be able to tame beasts like that with a single touch, rather then a well placed move.
His eyes met that of the creature that stood before him. He barely heard the next words the summoner said, before the creature started to take flight again. Quickly planting himself on the ground, Lief fought back the wind the creature made. Even though he hadn’t exactly lowered his bow, it wasn’t pointing at anything worth shooting at for the moment. The Hunter though, could do nothing more then watch the bird-dragon thing fly up into the air.
He heard the words of the women again, eyes slowly turning back down towards her. She was calmly explaining what exactly the things were… a notion that made the Hunter want to snort in laughter. Beasts that protect? That’s a first.”[/I]
It was then, after mentioning something about it saving her life (which Lief didn’t honestly care about), that she lowered her gun. Now looking relatively stupid with a arrow basically pointing at the summoner’s foot, Lief took his arrow and stuck it back in it’s quiver, slinging the bow over his shoulder, a sign that he too wasn’t aggressive now the beast was gone.
But her next sentence was begging for a response out of the Hunter “Not all beasts are monsters? I beg to differ, love. Even chocobos can attack you when they are angry. Sure, you summon them and they listen to you and all that jazz, but monster is still a monster, they can turn on you in the blink of an eye. So yeah, sweetie, I’m going to keep assuming all these beasts are going to kill people, cause that’s what they were normally made to do.” Lief huffed. “And summoners where I come from only summon summons like Shiva or something. So to see one summon a monster wasn’t exactly a plausible thought.” there was bitterness in the young deviant’s voice now. The woman’s tone almost sounded put down worthy, something that made him scowl in distaste. No one puts Lief Ramses down.
“And what is it any of your concern why I’m here? Are you worried I’m going to go and kill more monsters out of the random blue sky? Look, love, just because I use to be a poacher doesn’t make me go and kill everything in sight.” Lief’s tone was almost vicious now. “I could ask you the self same question. So why don’t you answer first, huh?”

After just having cleared up their previous misunderstanding, irritating the Hunter was the last thing Yuna wanted. She listened to him wearily at first, but as he continued, she increasingly felt the need to say something.
“I’m sorry," she began, "but I disagree. Even humans are apt to lash out when angry. That doesn’t make them monsters though. At least, not all the time...
"Chocobos are gentle creatures. They eat Ghysal Greens and hardly ever bother humans. They’re almost always the first to flee from an encounter. Of course they’ll attack when provoked, wouldn’t you?” She pointedly used the Hunter as an example. “Moments earlier, you would have attacked me too, only because Valefor was a threat to you. Once I sent her away, you lowered your bow."
She shook her head slowly. "Fighting isn’t what beasts were made for. They were made to live, as humans are made to live.”
When the Hunter talked of summoners only calling upon certain summons in his world, Yuna blinked.
“But, that’s what I mean..." She looked surprised. "Valefor is a summon, though she may appear to be a monster to those unfamiliar with her. If you’re unfamiliar with a type of summon, it’s easy to mistake them for a monster. Monsters aren’t always what we think. It just..." here her tone was tinged with regret, "...seems so unnecessary to hurt one when it can be avoided.”
”And what is it any of your concern why I’m here?”
Yuna recoiled, turning her head away. It sounded like beasts weren’t the only things the Hunter didn't trust. And distrust of humanity only lead to false accusations and combat. It was like Yevon, always assuming the Al Bhed were evil. Their pre-misconceptions kept them from understanding anything about the other race. For years they fought for no real reason.
Yuna, with her half-Al Bhed heritage and her two-toned eyes; one a calming blue, like her father’s, a High Summoner of Yevon and the other, a vibrant green, like the Al Bhed people, was proof that a union of the two was possible. It just took a little faith.
Despite her collected nature, Yuna couldn’t stop her face from reddening as the Hunter chewed out his words with increasing venom. When he finished, her hands went to her hips.
“It became my concern when you almost shot down my summon.” She was more irritated than angry. “No... I didn’t think you were.” She sighed. She didn’t always assume the worst in people, but his biting tone wasn’t helping any. “I was wondering if you needed any help. Few people linger on this world and it hasn’t been safe in a long time.” She crossed her arms. “But, if you do hunt down anything peaceful here, I’ll have to stop you.”
“My reason for being here...” It’s personal, she wanted to say, but that would have only made the Hunter’s distrust in her grow. She uncrossed one of her arms, her fingers curling under her chin as she lowered her head. “I needed some time, to be somewhere secluded. So I could figure something out.” She looked down at her staff, finding it difficult to push the next words out. “I wanted to know... if my summons had returned to me.” But mostly, she wanted to know... why? Why now, after so long?

She obviously gives monsters the same treatment as humanity. She’s too good for her own sake… Lief was nearly blocking out all the crap she was trying to pull up on him. He didn’t believe a word of it, and wasn’t about to change because of one obviously misguided pretty girl.
Though, he wanted to growl when he was used as an example of being a scared animal “Like hell. Didn’t you hear me before? I was going to shoot the damn bird because it looked like it could of ripped your head right from your dainty little shoulders! He barked at her, trying to keep his temper in check as she went on.
He wound up rolled his eyes at her next statement. “Beast aren’t meant to fight, yeah right. What good are they for?” He frowned when she said it was a summon “Must not be a good one then.” he muttered.
Lief crossed his arms as she retorted back to his final statement. An answer to everything huh?[/i] Her temper might not have flared yet, but it was obvious his words got to her. His temper was getting up there itself… Brown eyes snapped back when she mentioned stopping him and the young deviant couldn’t help to but let out a laugh. “You stop me? Pa-lease.” the anger ebbed into smugness as Lief unfolded his arms. “Sure you have pretty summons and an even more beautiful face, but you stop ME from what I want to do? I’d like to see you try!” He smirked “Now do me a favor? Answer my question. Why are YOU here?”
And answer she did. It was rather lame really, all she wanted time alone to herself… In the middle of the freaken jungle? Lief stared at her for a moment to see if she was lying, but the women seemed was preoccupied with the next statement. HER summons. If that didn’t prove she was a summoner officially, he didn’t know what did. So this women could summon a magnitude of creatures at her dispoal… and while she didn’t want them to fight, they were summons nonetheless… they were MADE to fight. Well… to “aid in battle” but who was into the nitty gritty?
A plan was starting to form in Lief’s mind. Get her to spill her secrets on these Summons and how exactly she went around obtaining them. Then somehow get to her world and learn the self same thing. Brown eyes sparkled as ideas of how to get her to trust him enough for that raced around her head. It all came back to a single solid question.
Did she think he was cute too?

“Like hell. Didn’t you hear me before? I was going to shoot the damn bird because it looked like it could of ripped your head right from your dainty little-“
“Yes,” Yuna cut in, stepping forward, “only because Valefor appeared to be a threat to me. If she was smaller or less vicious-looking you probably wouldn’t have tried harming her at all.”
Her knuckles whitened by the time the Hunter had made his ‘dainty shoulders’ remark. She did not like to be thought of as weak. Even when her sole position was as a summoner all those years ago, she did not simply stand back and allow her guardians to fight for her. No; she refused to be a burden. Just as her life was valuable to them, theirs was valuable to her, and so she fought alongside them. She tried very hard to stay someone strong and dependable for her people. For him to insinuate that she was nothing more than a pretty face stung her pride.
However... the Hunter had admitted that he only attacked the summon to help her out, and in truth a few years previously her guardians would have rushed to her aid just as this young man had... Besides, if she allowed him to rile her up anymore, they would just get into another heated argument and wind up in circles. She realized though, his arguments she could handle- it was his manner that bothered her.
Her head bowed. She filled her lungs with air... Then exhaled, allowing her tension to leave her with her breath.
“At any rate... thank you, for trying to help me.”
Instantly regret flooded her at the Hunter’s next words. When she raised her head again, she had to remind herself that the majority of his scorn was born of pride. She frowned.
“Don’t be so sure. I do what I must. My summons and I are probably stronger than you think. Besides...” She lifted her chin a little. “I’m not only a summoner.” Two years after completing her pilgrimage she had cast off that title, taught herself to wield pistols and various other weapons through the use of the dresspheres she found. Though an amateur in all but her gunner role, she had tried hard to become someone more capable and self-reliant than her old self.
However, it was something else that made Yuna’s gaze shift towards the leaves scattering the jungle path.
“Please,” she muttered, though just loud enough for the Hunter to hear, “stop complimenting me.” His constant allusions to her appearance were beginning to make her feel uncomfortable. She was used to being complimented for the hard work she did for people, for the peace she strove to bring to others. Sure, once or twice a Spiran citizen who had never seen her up close before would be surprised that someone so young had saved their world and would praise her calm beauty, but this... was different. It was too excessive. Yuna was unsure how to react. Her arms crossed themselves loosely over her stomach, her voice subdued.
“I’ve told you why I’m here. I think it’s only fair that you answer my question now.”

((OOC: It's alright Yuna, just enough. Too much more and I would have flailed about))
More then a Summoner?[/I]
Lief frowned at that. She had picked up another job then? Right… that would explain the guns. Lief knew where he was from that everyone could pick up more then one job, even though only two jobs could be present per person per fight. It was always a surprise to see a Soldier suddenly be able to use White Mage abilities, so Lief didn’t blame her for trying to use different abilities to get the advantage. What struck him odd though, is how she looked as she said that. Confident. Just said just with the same amount of pride that came when she mentioned that the summonses were stronger then he thought. Of course he knew the summons were strong, but this was different. How she said it received a slight smirk from the young deviant.
Yet when he asked her to stop complimenting her, Lief stared on blankly. What women in their right mind doesn’t like to be complimented?[/I] he thought before voicing a bit of his opinion outloud. “What? You feel you don’t deserve it or something? Because you by far do, sweetheart, I’m damn sure of that.”
Sure, Lief had seen prettier women in his lifetime, (Viera’s… by god their figures!) but something was just so… pure around the women in front of him that he couldn’t even being to explain how attractive it was. “Alright… if you think I need to tone it down, I will” the anger had left Lief now, he didn’t need to ruin his plan with his tongue. “Might be easier if I knew you name though, hun.” He winks “Then I wouldn’t have to call you by all the pet names in the book.”
“And my reason for being here? I was doing a mission for some client. Find some stupid lost necklace that some Heartless took. Upon returning, I did the ‘manly’ thing and refused a ride. Now I’m stuck here.” He shrugged. “Those summon things… can fly right? Maybe you might be able to get me home?”

One jet boot rocked forwards to kick up a few leaves. Yuna was still not quite able to look back at the Hunter. “Please,” she repeated, her face warm, “let’s not.”
It wasn’t that she was self-conscious about her appearance... it was just that, well, she’d never really needed to think about it. She was a summoner. Her main focus was her training, and then defeating Sin. She had taught herself to be presentable and well-mannered to those that she met on her travels, though her natural inclination towards other people made that rather easy. When the Gullwings whisked her away to become a spherehunter, she was having far too much fun taking up missions to ever stop and think about things like that. Besides, Rikku had always been a warm source of support to her confidence, and often helped her pick out her outfits, like the cheery little sister she’d never had.
Rather, Yuna didn’t want, well... this stranger to be the one complimenting her. It was different coming from a fan, who usually had prior knowledge and even a little genuine affection for her. This Hunter who had moments earlier snorted at her values and demoralized her evidently cared nothing for her. She supposed that’s why it bothered her so much. The words were pretty and empty, and Yuna preferred to surround herself with people whose hearts were honest and warm.
“Ah, my name...” Yuna blinked, so caught up in their previous argument she hadn’t thought to give him one. “My name is Yuna. You said yours was... Lief, right?” She looked back up from the greenery to his face once more. Leaves, Lief, she thought vaguely, Well, I doubt I’ll forget who he is now.
She found it a little funny that the Hunter refused a ride from someone else, but was happy to accept one from her. What would the Gullwings do?
A small conflict started up within Yuna’s head, as though a tiny Rikku had popped up on her shoulder, whispering things to her with her hands on her hips. ‘Why should you help him? He insulted you. Show him what the Gullwings are made of.’ Yuna had to confess that after the way he talked to her, she didn’t feel all that inclined to help him anymore... It was her own fault for admitting that was her intention in the first place. She wasn’t expecting him to accept so readily after insulting her... but then, she would be acting just as uncouth if she were to go back on her offer now, wouldn’t she? Her little shoulder-Rikku sighed. ‘You just can’t say no, can you?’
“I suppose I can’t just leave you here... Summons can only fly so far. I was going to be picked up by airship. You can come along, but...” Her hands returned to her hips, and she frowned, leaning her torso forwards a bit to try and seem more intimidating. “There’ll be lots of people on board to keep an eye on you. So...” She tried to think, what would Rikku say? “No funny business.”
What would the harm be? She supposed she’d feel more comfortable if her teammates were with her. Besides, she was sure that if he did try to pull any stunts, Paine would be the first to declare it ‘hurt’ time.
“Just... one moment...” The young woman turned away then, fumbling with a small communication device attached to her hood. When she was finished, her head automatically lifted to the skies and she shielded her eyes against the mild sunlight. “Hello?” She spoke into the Commsphere. “Brother?” She smiled as there was a response and though Lief may not be able to hear the other end of the conversation he would have been able to hear the static from the device. A few short exchanges and Yuna clicked off, having informed her teammates of their location. She turned back to the Hunter. “The airship is on its way. It looks like we’ve got a long wait though...”
She grew silent. If it were anyone else she were with, she would have offered to find some place to sit and wait more comfortably together, but she wasn’t quite sure how to react at this point. Then something occurred to her.
“I’m surprised you don’t have a Gummi Ship. So few people come here now, you might have been stuck in this jungle on your own for weeks. How long have you been here?”

((OOC: After some bizarre dream last night, I had really great Lief muse O.o So here we go, Yuna ^.^))
Lief held up his hands defensively. “Alright, alright. I’m sorry.” he shook his head “Kind of become second nature to say these things after such a long time, you know?” he smiled at her.
Yuna… Lief found himself blinking at the name. For some reason it seemed to suit her. She mentioned his next, and the Hunter felt a warming sensation hit him. He liked the way she said his name. Slightly embarrassed as he watched her look from the leaves to his face, he rubbed the back of his head, shifting the cowl a bit. “Heh… yeah, that’s me.” he said, turning away from her to regain his composer.
Holy shit, Ramses, pull yourself together! It’s just another freaken girl! Stop acting like an idiot! After shaking his head a bit to clear out the thought, he looked back at her with a winning smile.
“Airship?” Lief interjected as soon as the word left her mouth with a bit of a dumbstruckness to it. “You don’t have-” but she leaned forward cutting his polite refusal with… No… FUNNY business?![/I]
Lief laughed. Full on right out laughed. The Hunter bent over, clutching at his stomach because he was laughing so hard. Just how out of element that Yuna had said that too him and how much truth it held tickled the young deviant’s funny bone to the core. After a few moments, the Hunter forced himself to stop, breathless saying “Sorry! Sorry! I mean… that was just… so funny…”
He then regained his composer grinning sheepishly. “Really, I’m really sorry.” He looked away from her, embarrassed.
He let her call on a strange device on her hood, blinking and frowning in confusion as another voice, garbled by static, issued back almost like a PA on an airship. When she confirmed that the ship was on it’s way, Lief nodded, smiling warmly. “You didn’t have to do this you know”
Lief reflected back to what he wanted in the beginning, to control the aeons just like the lovely Yuna did. It was still… nice. Lief always wanted fame, to be considered something in someone’s eyes, but… something about forcing Yuna to do anything at this point made the Hunter squirm. He growled inwardly at himself… was he really getting a soft spot for this girl?
Lief was … well face the facts, a lady’s man. He knew what to say to get a girl to giggle like no tomorrow… and well, if his luck was good enough… And really before that was all Lief strived for, to make a girl want him and think he was out of this world. But this girl, THIS girl… no… he just couldn’t. All he knew that made a girl feel wanted, she hated, it confused him to know end. To her, he might have been nothing more then the leaves on the ground, and to her that this help is just because she was a good soul. Yuna… was different. And some part of Lief actually liked it.
Another part wondered if it was just because she was a challenge.
Yuna’s question interrupted Lief’s thoughts, and the hunter finally looked back up at her. “I can’t afford the parts for a gummi ship, and like hell those moogles would give me one for free… I haven’t been here long, a few hours? I didn’t think I could be stuck here for weeks… I was just hoping to come across a town or something… But I guess Deep Jungle lives up to its name.” Lief ranted, laughing a bit at the end. “Kind of just happy I ran into someone…”
