Dream’s End. Where the last Final Aeon had been defeated, a young hero named Tidus fought in the shadow of Dream Zanarkand, and Yuna’s journey ended. The only trace of that battle was Jecht’s mighty sword planted at the end of the path leading into that magma filled stadium. It was here at the base of this sword the pyreflies gathered, glowing as they reformed the body of a man dead for a thousand years. He lay face down, the same way that he’d died in Vegnagun’s chamber underneath Bevelle. A moment passed before he gasped, taking in the breath of life while his eyes shot open.
“W… What?” Shuyin whispered, coughing as he slowly pushed himself to his knees. Taking a deep breath he placed his hands on his thighs, his eyes slowly focusing to take in the great sight around him. It was the ruins of a blitzball stadium, with stars twinkling overhead in the night’s sky and the lightness shadows of Dream Zanarkand in the distance. The only light source was the magma that churned at the base of where the sphere of water should be. The man blinked a few times, his memories slowly beginning to return… He was Shuyin, star blitzball player from Zanarkand. Few years had passed since he had been an unsent, bent on revenge against Bevelle and its’ group responsible for taking Lenne from him, against the seemingly endless conflict that had cost them their lives. With Yuna’s help his soul had found peace, and together with Lenne he had faded into the… Wait.
”Lenne!” Shuyin cried, rolling onto his back before kicking into the air to leap to his feet. He frantically looked around him, finding himself staring up at an impossibly large sword. ”Lenne, where are you? We faded away together, we were finally at peace! Where am I, why am I here..? No, it doesn’t matter,” Shuyin realized his heart beating in his chest, the sweat dripping down his brow. He was alive, and if he was… So was she. He leaped across the pit of magma to the side of the stadium, eyes running across all of its seats while he ran around the rim of the pit, leaping across stones to the other side before he eventually found himself full circle at the sword once more. She wasn’t here, that was for sure.
”Don’t worry Lenne, I’m coming, I will find you and we’ll be together again!” Lenne shouted, turning towards the entrance with a determined look in his eyes. No matter the cost…

Well... this was new.
Jecht had reappeared back at this place. Apparently, whoever ran the Farplane kept this around as memorial. Jecht didn't get why. He guessed it was supposed to "honor" him, but all he got from it was bad, bad memories. Memories of flooding villages and killing hundreds, if not thousands of people without being able to do anything about it. Memories of being lied to by Bevelle that Braska would be able to stop Sin. Memories of having to be put down by Braska's kid, his old friend and his own son, who had hated him and, Jecht had to admit, was quite right in doing so. But now he was free from Yu Yevon's influence and, somehow, was brought back to life.
Life in Spira was always strange.
Jecht started moving towards the giant version of his sword when the pyreflies came and started gathering at the base. There, they formed a very familiar-looking man. As he got up and started shouting something about a "Lenne", Jecht noticed that, aside from a few differences, this man looked just like Tidus. Of course, Jecht knew this guy wasn't his son, although cried and whined just like him. Sheesh.
"Ain't no 'Lenne' around here, boy." he said as the man turned to leave and came face to face with him. Jecht had his sword out, so the man could tell who he was. "Although I guess I should be asking why you look like my crybaby of a son. You even act like him, too! Who are you?!" Jecht demanded. He didn't like the idea of someone masquerading as his son, no matter what kind of relationship they had.

When the familiar, gruff voice reached his ears, Shuyin’s eyes widened. No, it couldn’t be, why would he come back too? His eyes darted towards Jecht, and between what he saw and heard, a cloud of confusion descended upon his mind.
”What are you talking about? Do you really not recognize me?!” Shuyin’s eyes narrowed, and he clenched his fists. His entire career had been dedicated to breaking each and every one of his father’s records, and now from what Shuyin gathered he was standing in front of him with some stupid tattoo on his chest. It never occurred to him this could be someone else, Jecht’s likeliness to his own father was just too close to be coincidental in Shuyin’s mind. After all, he knew nothing of the fayth’s dream of Zanarkand that Jecht came from.
Shuyin marched over to Jecht, stepping well within his personal space to glare up into his eyes. ”First you turn into a drunk, throw away your career and leave Mom… Then you disappear off the face of Spira without a trace… Then after a thousand years you’ve become so wrapped up in your sick fantasy that you don’t even recognize your own son?!” Shuyin quickly drew back his fist then swung forward to punch Jecht hard across the face.
”I’ve been waiting ever since you hurt Mom, to tell you I hate you, you selfish bastard! You could at least remember my name!” Shuyin screamed, tears building in his eyes. Lenne would understand his delay; she knew he had a score to settle with the old man.
The irony was, Jecht was only a dream of Shuyin’s father, and in reality one could say Tidus had been the one masquerading as the thousand year old blitz ace.

Jecht didn't even bother to block the kid's punch as it hit his chin, making him look the other way for a moment. He turned his head back to look at his attacker. This kid, whoever he was, was like the incarnation of everything that Jecht had hated about himself. Of all the bad memories he had to live with. This kid clearly mistook him for his dad the same way Jecht had nearly mistook him the boy for Tidus.
"My son's name is Tidus. He ain't you. Sorry, kid, but you got the wrong guy." Jecht said, "I ain't your old man, no matter how much you want it to be. But..." Jecht thought about something and unflinchingly stared back at the kid. "It sounds like you really hated the guy. Tell ya what. You wanna fight your old man? This is about as close as you're going to get." Jecht then jumped backwards a bit, letting his spikes come back to the surface. "But you better not be a crybaby about it! If you're gonna fight me, fight me like a man!" he yelled as he prepared to fight the kid.

"If you're not my old man then who are you?!" Shuyin demanded, grasping the handle of his sword as he leaped back from Jecht, his action answering the old man's challenge. "I'm more of a man than you ever were! I'm the Blitz Ace of Zanarkand, Shuyin!"
He drew The Guardian from its hilt, bringing the sword to his side while he dug his feet into the ground... Eyes fixed in a glare on Jecht's own. He grasped the handle tighter as Jecht seemed to shift into the similar form of his father's, arms crossed over his chest with a cocky grin on his face.
"What, going to cry again? Cry cry, that's the only thing you're good for! Hell, you can't even catch a ball! You'll never be as good as me, I'm the great..." Tears poured down Shuyin's face as he cried out in rage, the memory of his father tormenting him. He didn't even realize it'd been an illusion in his own mind. With a growl, he rushed Jecht in a series of flips and cartwheels before leaping to slash across the massive chest of the Blitz King, determined to knock him off his thrown with Spinning Cut.
Knock him off it again, Shuyin thought, but Jecht was the illusion's old man, not his.

Huh, he fought like Tidus, too.
Jecht took his sword, but didn't put it up to block. The problem with his son's, and by proxy it would seem, Shuyin's was that they telegraphed their moves. Usually, their quickness made up for it, but Jecht knew his son too much to know better. Jecht merely sidestepped as Shuyin came down with the attack. He then aimed a punch right at his gut, one that any would lay any normal human out on the floor in an instant. He then launch four consecutive headbutts at the Blitzer before going right into a combo, aimed at making sure Shuyin knew he wasn't playing around. Jecht never really did.
"Who am I?" Jecht asked aloud. It was a good question. "Maybe if you beat me, I'll tell ya."

"Ah!" Shuyin cried out, his slash missing before he was punched hard in the gut. Four headbutts later he found himself flying back into the giant sword before falling hard onto the ground. With a growl he stabbed his sword into the ground, pushing himself to his feet.
"You're right, you're not my old man. He's not nearly as strong as you, I'll give you that much," Shuyin told Jecht, pulling his sword out of the ground as he summoned a Blitzball into his free hand. "But like you said, beating you is the next best thing to crushing him! I'll enjoy this!"
Shuyin charged at Jecht, leaping into the air to throw the blitzball at him with Brutal Shot, the blue and white ball's slight homing aiding its curve towards the blitz king. Immediately behind it Shuyin held his sword in front of him as sort of a shield while he drove his feet towards the man's chest, to leap back into the air from him once more. With The Guardian glowing brilliantly in his hands, he'd slash at Jecht from high above him to unleash the white beams of energy that would converge upon Jecht in the explosion of Force Rain. Shuyin landed nimbly on his feet several paces away, spinning his sword in front of him with a grin while he focused again on the old man.
"There's no one in the history of Zanarkand better than me!" Shuyin called out to Jecht, heart pounding in his chest as the adrenaline began to run through him. He felt as if the abandoned stadium they were in was filled to the rim with thousands of fans, each screaming and cheering for their Zanarkand Blitz Ace to soundly defeat the impostor before him. He could almost feel Lenne's eyes on him, see the smile on her face to show she believed in her champion.
He wasn't going to let them all down, not again.

A Blitzball? Really? He was the Blitz King, inventor of the sublimely Magnificent Jecht Shot Mark III and this chump threw a blitzball at him? Seriously?
Jecht almost couldn't believe it. This definitely wasn't Tidus, since even he was smart enough to not try such a tactic. Jecht embedded his sword in the ground and then used it as leverage as he swung around and kicked the blitzball away from him and towards the look-alike of his son. Then the guy aimed white energy rockets at him. Jecht barely dodged in time, but was still harmed by the resulting explosion as he rolled across the ground and, somehow, flipped so he was on his feet again. Not waiting to take a breather, he lunged the simulacrum, launching another combo at him. After a few sword slices and punches, he aimed a kick designed to position the chump above him. The perfect position to get rammed by a meteor.
Jecht then used Ultimate Jecht Shot and summoned a meteor right above him, catching it and then jumping up and throwing it at the clone. He landed and folded his arms in front of his chest, his sword embedded in the ground beside him. "You must've got your info wrong, kid! Because there ain't no one that's better than me!" he exclaimed.

The blitzball whirled passed Shuyin as he leaped into the air Force Rain, but after seeing that Jecht managed to roll out of the way of the attack Shuyin just growled. Jecht didn’t give Shuyin any time to plan, the blitz ace relying on his agility to bring his sword up to block the powerful slashes of the simulacrum. Even still, the Blitz King overpowered him and after stumbling back from blocking the slashes Shuyin found himself punched, and then kicked into the air.
“Oh this can’t be good!” Shuyin thought allowed as Jecht summoned the meteor and leaped into the air. All he could do was fold his arms across his face, blade in front of him to try and absorb some of the blow as he crashed into the ground underneath the massive rock. Shuyin lay there for a moment beneath the rubble, listening to Jecht before kicking the largest rocks off of him. Shoving others aside he pushed himself to his feet, dusting himself off.
“You can’t be from Zanarkand,” Shuyin told Jecht, setting his eyes into those of the old man, “Zanarkand was destroyed over a thousand years ago. I don’t know why the fayth have brought me back, but that’s where I’m from. I don’t recognize you, and if you were a blitzball player of any worth I’d know about you. So quit your games, and tell me who the hell you are!”
Immediately Shuyin dashed at Jecht, using his speed to dart at him to try and land the first slash before Jecht could grasp his simulacrum. Driving his foot into the ground he spun, running at Jecht again to slash at him from behind. Back and forth Shuyin slashed at him four more times to finish Hit And Run before throwing his foot forward again to slide to a stop. He spun around to face Jecht again, sword spinning in his hand in front of him now while he glared at his opponent.

"Tch... what are ya, deaf or stupid?! I told ya, I ain't tellin' you squat until you beat me!" Jecht yelled, picking up his sword again as he prepared for Shuyin's next attack. With that, he seemed to alternate between getting hit and blocking it. Jecht had to admit, this kid was fast. Just like Tidus, actually. Jecht growled as he charged at Shuyin, unleashing yet another savage combo, this one designed to deliver knockback as well as damage. After the last hit, he then charged energy into his free hand and got ready in case Shuyin tried to do anything stupid. "Think you can last, kid? You're looking a little tired!" Jecht taunted. He wanted to fight this guy at his peak and taunting seemed to get him angry enough to go all out. Jecht just hoped he didn't have to go into Final Aeon Mode. He wanted to beat this guy up, not outright murder him.

One thing was for sure, Jecht sure could absorb attack just like his old man. Back in the day Shuyin's father was known not only as the Blitz King, but as the Blitzin' Tank. No matter how hard you hit him, he just kept coming for more. Shuyin knew that he couldn't keep taking hits, he had to use his speed to his advantage and keep dishing out damage until the battle was over.
Watching Jecht as he charged, Shuyin side stepped the initial punch, leaping backwards and side to side to avoid Jecht's close range physical attacks. The large blade narrowly missed its mark twice: the first slash cutting across the chest of Shuyin's shirt, the second to last slash forcing Shuyin to flip over it to prevent being cleaved in half. Unfortunately this brought him in between Jecht and his blade, and Shuyin found himself punted away. He hit the ground with a loud grunt, rolling several feet before shoving off the ground back to his feet. Taking a deep breath, he glared at Jecht and listened to his taunt. He couldn't help but grin, despite the intensity of the battle he couldn't help but feel excited.
"Ha, getting tired? I'm just getting started, you haven't seen anything yet!" Shuyin taunted back, summoning a blitzball in his free hand. "Maybe it's time I showed you a move my father invented for Blitzball, one I perfected for battle and made famous all throughout Zanarkand!" Shuyin tossed the ball into the air above him, not looking at it as he smirked at Jecht. It dropped in front of him, and the Blitz Ace punted it towards Jecht. Regardless of whether it hit Jecht or was deflected, it bounced back to Shuyin only to be punched back towards the final aeon. Its spin sent it skyward from the impact, and Shuyin leaped into the air on trajectory with the blitzball. Drawing his arms in close he spun several times before throwing out his leg to kick the blitzball with all his might back towards Jecht, the blitzball exploding with devastating force as it impacted with its target or the ground... Whichever happened. Still, the ground around the explosion would crack, cratered from the force of the blow.
Shuyin nimbly landed on his feet, quickly spreading them to return to his battle stance while he ran his thumb across his nose. "That was the King Shot, the greatest move in all of blitzball! I'm sure even you've heard of it old man!" The blitz ace watched intently at the smoke as it cleared, eager to see how Jecht had taken the attack. It was the second strongest move he had, and Shuyin wanted to save his best technique for last. He had a lingering feeling that his opponent would have known it from this world, but it didn't matter. Even if he had, his opponent surely would've been impressed. After all, he was the only one besides his father who had ever completed the technique successfully.

What?! That wasn't the King Shot! That was the Jecht Sho- actually, the Sublimely Magnificent Jecht Shot Mk. III! He patented it! HIMSELF! And this kid had the nerve to think he could pull it off! Ok, so he did, but that didn't matter. He was going to show this kid how real blitzball players play.
"That all? Your technique's sloppy!" Jecht taunted again and as the blitzball rocketed towards him, Jecht hit with his forearm. He then proceeded to do the Jecht Shot, move for move exactly like the King Shot, perfectly, just like in his prime, his last kick sending the blitzball into the horizon. "King Shot? I don't think so! That's the Jecht Shot! Sublimely Magnificent Jecht Shot Mk. III to YOU, kid! He then charged energy into his free hand and waited for this simulacrum of his son retaliate. "Now COME ON! I ain't got all day, ya know! Jecht yelled.
Who was this kid? Not one person had ever mastered the Jecht Shot, except his own son. Well, whatever this guy was, he was in for a beating for trying to crib on HIS technique.

Shuyin couldn't believe his eyes. The King shot, reflected back at him blow for blow before being kicked to the horizon. A waste really, he might've been able to do some real damage to Shuyin with the shock he was in. Moth gaping open he stared at Jecht angrily yelled at him, then clamped it shut and glared at the Blitz King over his claims.
"The Jecht shot?! What the hell's a Jecht? I don't know how hard you've hit your head, but in Zanarkand that's called the King Shot," Shuyin yelled back at the old man. They were both right in a sense, though Shuyin's claims were about the true Zanarkand of a thousand years ago... Jecht of his Dream Zanarkand that existed only in the minds of the fayth.
"Almost sounds like some pompous egotistical idiot named it after himself!!" Shuyin claimed, then his eyes widened at the sudden realization. "Wait, so you're Jecht, aren't you? Don't know who Jecht is, but that has to be who you are. Doesn't matter though, I'm going to end this once and for all! It's time I made you feel a thousand years of agony, the Terror of Zanarkand!!"
Shuyin spread his feet beneath him, digging them into the ground as he leaned forward in preparation of his next attack. He charged forward at Jecht as fast as his feet would carry him, slashing at him eight times in rapid succession; vertical upward to the right, vertical upward to the left, horizontal to the right then left, vertical upward left to right, back flipping as he slashed upwards for the sixth and seventh cuts then slashed down hard on Jecht to cut him down. After the swift attack he stabbed his sword into the ground, jumped onto the tip of his sword’s handle, then leaped into the air. World Champion appeared in a flash of light in its path towards Shuyin, only to be punting out of the sky towards Jecht. The spiked blitzball raced for him in a blur, and regardless of whether it struck him or not the blitzball would erupt in a fiery explosion upon contact with whatever surface that it struck to send Jecht flying back away from The Guardian.
Landing nimbly on his feet, Shuyin stared at the cloud of debris and smoke he’d kicked up with his attack. He yanked his sword out of the ground and waited, fully expecting Jecht to be heavily damaged from his assault. That was his most powerful attack, and if this had failed to hurt him... There was no hope for Shuyin to have a victory here.

"HEY! I am NOT an idiot!" Jecht yelled at the belligerent lad. He then saw Shuyin getting ready for an attack and it looked like a big one. "Terror of what now?" Jecht could only get out before he suddenly had to block a barrage of slices from Shuyin, unfortunately getting sliced by a couple. He grunted in pain but he looked on as Shuyin wasn't done yet. He then kicked a spiked blitzball at him at an insane speed, causing an explosion that enveloped Jecht. As the smoke and dust began to clear, it looked like Jecht had been defeated, not by his son, but an alternate version of him.
That is, until Jecht, in his Final Aeon form, shot towards Shuyin like a bullet, looking like a demon ready to tear him apart. First, he unleashed Triumphant Grasp, palm striking the Blitz Ace in the chest and hitting him with a series of explosions before hitting him with a final, massive one. He continued shooting towards him, sliced at Shuyin, appeared somewhere else, kicked him, appeared above Shuyin and stabbed at him before using the sword as leverage to jump up to a giant meteor above the Zanarkand Ace. Jecht then smashed the Meteor, not once, but twice, shattering it and sending the pieces right at Shuyin. He got out of his Final Aeon form and landed on the ground, breathing heavily.

Shuyin grinned at the lack of Jecht’s shadow within the cloud of debris as it began to clear, slowly standing upright. It appeared that his opponent had been defeated, fallen to Shuyin’s most powerful and devastating attack.
“Now you see why nobody can beat me, I’m the best!” Shuyin called out to Jecht, completely caught off guard when the fiend rushed out in Jecht’s place from the cloud. Letting out a cry he was struck in the chest, sent rocking backwards from the explosions that ripped at his outfit and charred his skin. The Final Aeon’s slice hit home, sending Shuyin back once more before the kick halted his movement, allowing the stab to send Shuyin face first back into the ground.
I don’t know what just happened, but this is all kinds of bad... Shuyin thought as he looked up, eyes widening at the sight of the meteor being shattered into pieces. His mouth hanged open, the only thought on Shuyin’s mind being that he needed to escape for his life. He tried to push himself to his feet, letting out a cry as a sharp pain in his leg made him fall back to his knee. Panicking, Shuyin desperately, tried to kick himself back with his good leg out of the way of the attack. Though the bulk of the Ultimate Jecht Shot missed him, the blast sent him reeling back into the giant sword with a cry. He hit it with a sickening thud, falling down the blade to land on the ground in the position of sitting against it. He shook his head, trying to clear it. When he opened his eyes the haze slowly began to rise, and he spotted Jecht once more.
“...I don’t know what that was, or what you did...” Shuyin began, stabbing his sword into the ground and using it as leverage to allow himself to stand. He kept the weight off of his other leg while he glared at Jecht. “But the fact you had to use that... Just shows you couldn’t beat me as you are now. You might’ve won in reality... But I won in technicality, Jecht.”
He had to admit, even though everything about this guy seemed to be a lie or a joke he was definitely a great Blitzball Player, a great warrior. He could only hope this was over, he didn’t want to cross swords with such a powerful opponent again.
