The brightest star will cast the darkest shadow.
The eerie presence of Maleficent’s castle was made far less ominous by the brightly shining sun and fresh cool breeze of the warm summer day. This world was a prime example of Domino’s purpose in this war. In order to quell the fighting, darkness and light must work together in harmony. Sure, the two sides will always fight, but by claiming these worlds they were throwing the balance off, something that must not be done.
Domino now stood in the round throne room, working on his third hour of searching for the keyhole in this wretched castle. The green and purple banners looked as if they hadn’t been touched in over a decade, and the stale smell to the air gave off the similar aura. Whoever had once resided in the massive keep left long before the elder warrior’s arrival. Domino couldn’t help but wonder why someone would vacate a castle as grand as this.
Domino’s role in the war was not yet one of the major roles, he’d only been in about a half dozen battles, but his power had grown tremendously in those battles. He couldn’t help but think that he could be accomplishing much more than he was if he could find more people from his world roaming about. He had already gained the trust of Mariano, an amnesiac wielding a keyblade. Mariano was away aiding Domino by obtaining worlds, but apart they were weaker than if they stood together. They would definitely have to unite to free some of the more populated worlds, but for smaller worlds such as this, Domino was certain he could free it single-handedly.
That’s when he began to sense it. Domino’s senses picked up another warrior in Maleficent’s keep. Would this be another battle or was this someone who could be turned to the wise elder’s cause? Only time would tell for certain, but he would certainly be prepared for either.
OOC: Really short, I apologize, but I had trouble deciding how to start this post. [/size]

"The other one is much nicer, you know."The voice, young, proud, and just a slight bit sly, came from somewhere nearby -- that much was certain. The concentric geometry of the throne room tossed it about to fill the space not unlike the way an amphitheater would, at the same time making the source point slightly difficult to discern amidst the surrounding echoes. Yet if one were to but look up a bit... ... they would behold a curious sight, something entirely at odds with the dark, dank, abyssal-looking fortress. A boy with tussled locks of brown hair and piercing green eyes gazed down from his perch on a window ledge midway up the large hollow cylinder of the throne room, leaning back casually against the frame with one leg dangling idly. His attire -- mostly white and light gray with thin gold trim, accented by a long purple cape and smoke-gray armor boots -- could not have stood out more against the grim environs. What's more, he held something in one hand that glinted in the ray of bright sunlight that cascaded through the glassless window, something that seemed at first a gem... but on closer inspection was in fact glass, formed in the shape of a chess queen. This the boy held up in one hand, angling it as he spoke so that the sharp prism of color it cast fell upon the older man down below. "Fully furnished, regal, refined... but, as it turns out, occupied. This one's a bit of a project, true, but it'll be quite nice once its fixed up a bit. Highly defensible, strong architecture, though the foundation might be a bit weak in places, being built on a sheer rock outcropping and all." His hand reached up to enfold the glass queen in a single swift move, extinguishing its rainbow light before pocketing it. "I'd say it's a good buy, but I'm not interested in selling. It may not technically be mine, but unclaimed property is fair game after all." The ghost of a smirk played across his features as he looked down at Domino, some hint of intent not altogether altruistic flitting across the young man's eyes. Who was this rambling boy, and perhaps more importantly... how the devil had he gotten up there to begin with? "Ah, but where are my manners?"In a move that was surely nothing shy of calculated the mystery lad reached over to a half-ripped banner that still hung in silent vigil right next to the arch-shaped window frame... and lithely swung himself towards it, abandoning the precarious perch for what seemed at first a madman's jump. Yet it was all theatrics; his gloved grip firm, the boy in white descended to the sound of fabric tearing and ropes snapping, the long purple and sickly-green drape-flag coming undone as he dropped and slowing his fall in the process. Still, to call it a soft landing was generous -- the young man landed with a solid thunk, crouched, the banner falling to tatters behind him. Slowly, milking the drama of the scene liberally, he rose and dusted himself off with a casual, nearly haughty, air. "Theron Bradford d'Metreon. And if I'm not mistaken... you're the 'knight of neutrality' that's been 'liberating' worlds, aren't you?" Theron began walking slowly towards Domino, one hand on his sheathed sword and the other hanging loose at his side, purple cape trailing behind him as he moved. There was a clarity of focus about the boy's expression that somehow managed to be aggressive without hostility and at the same time curious and wary, all the while undergirded by the silent confidence of a chess player sizing up his opponent before a match. There was no obvious intent, no blatant preparation to attack... but neither was this a friendly overture. Perhaps this would prove a fateful encounter...

Quality may be over Quantity, but what is wrong with having both?
Domino wasn’t sure what to make of the white and violet clad warrior standing in one of the windows. He couldn’t sense an overbearing light or darkness from the man, but his heart did seem to lean toward the latter. He seemed to be genuinely intrigued as to the presence of the elderly warrior.
Domino continued to watch, dressed in his ornately decorated robe. The robe seemed to be silver-like in color with gold embroidery and rubies pressed into the top right shoulder. This tucked into a pair of black gi-style fabric that would be his world’s choice for formal attire. As Theron finally made landfall he began to actually describe their surroundings to him. Did he not realize that the elder’s eyes did work and he knew how dreadful the castle appeared? ”I did not come here to seek residence in this castle. Actually, this world intrigues me. It is a perfect example of how every world should be composed.”
Domino ended his sentence and was introduced to the man that was known as Theron. However, he was completely off guard to the fact that this knight seemed to know exactly who Domino was. How on earth had someone become familiar with Domino in such short time? Had his exploits become that kind of public knowledge? ”Yes, I am Domino, but might I ask how you have come about that kind of knowledge. I have not been participating in this war long enough to have garnished that kind of reputation yet. There are few warriors who’ve learned of my identity, and most are far darker than yourself.”
Domino shifted a little, not quite taking a defensive stance but a more open, friendly one. He couldn’t sense any kind of tension at all, and the ‘knight of neutrality’ couldn’t help but think that he might be able to find a common ground with this enigmatic warrior. ”I have made many attempts to liberate worlds from their claims. It is a legend, in my world, that true harmony can only be found when the darkness can work hand-in-hand with light. Every light casts a shadow and every shadow is limited to its source of light. Do you understand?
The scholar began to listen intently for the young warrior’s reply to Domino’s reasoning. Neutrality must become dominant for the war to find conclusion.

(OOC: By way of explaining the reversed Checkhov's Gun in this post -- and with it Theron's primary means of inter-world transport and information, I posit the following: [1] In KH1 Cid owns a store for Gummi ship parts, with Sora as the most obvious beneficiary; however, simply by such a store existing suggests that others besides Sora had been and continued to use Cid's business, clearly suggesting other Gummi ship pilots exist. [2] In KH2 it's mentioned that one of Scrooge's projects was to set up a means of trading between worlds; thus its reasonable to assume that some of the Gummi ship pilots out there work for him as merchants, freight haulers, and prospectors. And if said pilots can get a bit of extra business ferrying around a young prince, all the better right? )The young d'Metreon held a half-restrained smirk on his face as Domino questioned him. "Ah, Domino then -- now I have a name to go with the rumors. I'm more of a chess person myself." He let out a low chuckle. "Sorry; couldn't resist the joke."
"But I suppose you deserve something of an explanation -- you weren't very easy to track down, and even then it required quite a bit of guesswork to find where you'd next show up. Gummi ship pilots are good sources of information but notoriously lacking in details. Still," He shrugged, stopping in mid-step with about twenty feet between himself and the older man. "How long did you think you could go about as a third wheel in this war without someone taking notice? A loner, come from who-knows-where, standing up to light and dark alike? You stand out, Domino, despite whatever efforts you've made to the contrary."
"But in one regard, you're the same as everyone else I've met since leaving my world." The boy's expression darkened slightly, as if annoyed by something. "Light. Darkness. That's all I hear about, from world to world. Everyone seems obsessed with it... even you. I understand you well enough for that, and quite a bit besides."With his free hand he tossed his cape back dramatically, seeming now to make a declaration of intent. "Harmony? A one-sided world-view, no different than the ardents of Light or the converts of Darkness. It's a fool's notion: 'if we all just held hands and played nice with each other the world would be a better place'."
"I disagree. For all your interest in neutrality you yourself have already picked -- and betrayed -- a side. You are a walking contradiction, Domino: in the interest of 'harmony' you force your will upon worlds, violently if opposed, and then claim to be the universal benefactor. You use confict in your crusade to reject conflict... and for that..."Slowly, Theron drew his sword, the silvery blade of Sangfroid gleaming in the chiaroscuro throne room. Coming free, he tossed the sheath aside and pointed the weapon like an accusing finger at Domino, all the while a half-playful half-malevolent smirk played across the young swordsman's features. "I name you hypocrite, Domino of Neutrality! You who detest fighting fight to enforce your views, but worry not. I'm no morality crusader here to straighten you out -- I simply adhere to a truer balance, that conflict and strife must go hand-in-hand with peace and serenity for life to exist, no different from the beating of a heart or breathing in and out. Conflict elevates the strong and makes the worlds vital; this is the conclusion that I've reached in my travels."
"And so... I'm here to make you a wager, old man."Sword lowered slightly, Theron held out one hand. "We fight. If you win I agree to serve your interests for a full year, helping you liberate worlds and standing against both sides. But if I win..." Theron's open hand slowly curled into a fist as his grin broadened. "It becomes the opposite. You'll serve me for a year, fighting as my thane and helping me in my quest to acquire a certain object of great importance to me. What say you to that, hm?"(OOC: Aaaaaaaaaaaaaand... just so you know, the bet's real. You beat me, I'll bring Theron to help you out anytime you want in any Raid or other thread for the whole of 2012. Same the other way around. You game Domino?)
