It was one thing to be stuck in a cave after falling off a cliff-face. It was another entirely to end up in a cave, after falling off a cliff-face, and be surrounded by what Simba could only surmise to be ghosts of some dead creatures! The cavern and cave walls had been covered in spider-webs, slick oil, and general dirt and grime, Simba doing his best to run from the ghosts that haunted him. Had he found himself in yet another world? Perhaps a world of the dead? It was any wonder if he had! This world was just simply wrong, plain and simple! And it was why he was still running for his life, using his teeth claws, and tail to climb a strange structure upwards. It was made of thin trees, and his claws dug into it, but it was so vertical that it made it difficult for the lion to traverse it. “HELP!”[/I] he had cried out in the echoing caves once, twice, three times, followed by a deep roar to echo through the cavern walls and shake some rocks free. It nearly caused him to fall, and he probably would have, had he not felt the paw of another grab onto him. Glancing up, his eyes nearly deceived him when he saw what he thought to be another lion, but with odd features more akin to a hyena.
“Hold tight and pull up!” the lion-like being had told him, and Simba could only listen and hope this hyena-lion was not going to throw him off the rocks like his nightmares of Kovu. Thankfully though, his fears were not justified, and the hyena-lion helped him up off the structure he would later learn to be a Ladder, and onto solid ground and footing again.
“Thank you,” Simba had said, panting and barely holding himself up from all the running. He looked the Hyena-lion over and caught more fo the details, seeing he resembled more of a conglomeration of many animals. The face of a wild dog, the mane of a hyena, the body and tail of a lion… and were those feathers in his mane? Was he part bird too?
“Come, There is a place you can rest for a moment.” The hyena-dog-lion had said, leading to Simba away from the entrance to what was the Cave of Gi.
In time, Simba had learned much, including the fellow quadrupedal animal’s name, Nanaki. What more, Nanaki had taught him a few things, much of which the young, sounding creature claimed had been taught to him by his Grandfather. Nanaki had easily guessed Simba to be from another world, though confused how he had gotten there himself. He had explained the world and his location on it, and that somewhere in the stars was Simba’s own world, somewhere. This had blown Simba’s mind, but when he spoke with Nanaki about the legend of his world with the Kings being in the stars, Nanaki seemed to understand, believing it could be possible and that the spirits of great people might traverse the stars, instead of returning to the life stream of their world.
But Simba had become more interested in that he was not mistrusted like on other worlds here. People seeing a talking Lion did little to phase them, unlike other worlds where people exclaimed in fear at the mere sight of him, never mind the speaking ability of his. Nanaki and Simba had shared at least three night’s worth of fun and consultation of one another, enjoying their companies, when Nanaki had told Simba he would be leaving for a few days, but could roam with the elders and Villagers of this Cosmo Canyon. Happy coercive such a welcoming gift, Simba obliged, and had soon begun to spend the nights around the firepit, as he was now. There were no villagers with him this night, either packing their stands or spending the time with their loved ones, but the fire burned all the same, with the clear night sky in view. Simba had looked to that Sky with wonder on his world, and now he looked to it on this other world with fear. The stars were so different. Was his world amongst the stars? Which one was it?
“Could I have been brought here by a Great King of the past?” Simba, for a moment, mused to himself, closing his eyes and resting his head between his front paws, body laying down and slightly to the side to face the fire. He did not sleep, but thought more on everything. Oh if only the answers were so clear as the night sky.
