Why couldn’t all dark portals be gentle like the one that had taken her to Destiny Island? Why was only that one gentle and warm and the others cold and just plain rude? Tink thought about these questions as she was pulled into cold darkness and flung out into a place that was also dark. Spinning through the area, Tink found herself coming to an abrupt stop -both physically and mentally- as she hit something solid within the darkness. Being knocked into a daze by the hit, Tink remained suspended in the air for a second before she slid down and landed with a light thump onto a hard surface within the darkness. For a moment, the small fairy sat in the dark with her world spinning. Shaking her head to clear it, she let her eyes adjust to her dark surroundings and discovered it wasn’t really dark at all, but just super gloomy. Standing up, the fairy increased her natural glow slightly to illuminate the area a bit more.
She was inside of some form of structure. She could tell by the thick beams that crossed each other and raised in the darkness to support the unseen ceiling. She could see cobwebs and large dust clumps clinging to some corners, suggesting wherever this was could not be reached by broom or duster or perhaps it was simply forgotten. Despite recognizing the place as a structure of some sort and the fact it was abandoned, this place did not smell or feel like the pirate ship Hook owned or even the tree house where the Lost Boys and Peter lived. No…this place was something old, but grounded and definitely man made. Finishing her observation, the small fairy’s glow dimmed back to natural as she began to move forward looking for a way out. It took her only a few minutes before she found the strange dome like opening that marked the exit in the form of hole that was like a normal size door to her. Having dealt with various animals in her time, the small fairy understood that the exit was made by a mouse; however, where that mouse was now was hard to say. She hadn’t seen any mice at all as she walked. She paused only once as a spider the size of horse to her, lazily walked across her path, heading for the darkness and comfort of a corner. As it walked, the spider paused and looked at her debating if her wings meant she was edible or not, but then deciding not to challenge her, the spider moved on. After the brief pause, Tink continued her walk until she made it to the entrance of the hole, the area becoming brighter with each step. At the exit, she paused and leaned out of the hole looking around her new and brighter surroundings. It was a large room nicely decorated with elegant furniture and some bookshelves. She saw a fancy light in the ceiling and a large door at one end of the room. From somewhere within the large place, the light ticking of a clock could be heard, but other than that the place was quiet.
Did no one live here? No. That couldn’t be right. This area, unlike the mouse hole, was well kept and clean. Someone had to live here. Maybe they had stepped outside or something. Wherever the residents were it was not here. Feeling safe, Tink stepped out of into the large room feeling the plush carpet yield under her small shoes as she walked, exploring the room cautiously. As she explored, she began to wonder who owned such a beautiful home. So absorbed she was on her thoughts and exploration that she did not see the being that had pushed its way into the room with her. Didn’t see it sneaking up behind her with an almost malicious grin on its fat face. She kept walking, pausing to look up at the way the light played on the crystal of the chandelier in the room. Hypnotized by the beauty, the small fairy didn’t realize the being in the room with her had snuck up on her until she found her light blocked and a furry face looking down at her.
Before she could figure out what the fur and strange green eyes meant the face was coming down on her, trying to swallow her whole!
With a startled ding, Tink took to the air, the furry face missing her by inches. She had just a second to see that the face belonged to a rather fat and fluffy black cat with white paws, a white tipped tail, and a face with white across the nose and mouth area before she was flying for dear life. She did her best to avoid the cat’s swipes and bites...and even tried going to higher ground, but anything she tried to land on the cat would either try to climb or ram into it to make her lose her balance and tumble below. A bit desperate to get the cat to leave her alone, Tink began pushing books and anything else she could move on top of the cat, but the animal was smart and was able to avoid most things that came at it.
With no more items to defend herself, Tink attempted to hide on top of a bookshelf within the room. She was exhausted and prayed the cat would not come after her; however, luck was not on her side. As she stood leaned forward slightly with her hands on her knees trying to catch her breath, she felt the bookshelf shake and looked up just in time to see the cat climb up to where she was. Horrified, she tried to fly away, but the cat pursued her and as she zoomed her way downward, the cat leaped off the shelf knocking it over and then let gravity do the rest of the work. Faster as lightning, Tink found herself knocked out of the air by a lucky swipe from behind. Thankfully the claws did not hit her. Hitting the carpet hard and rolling, the small fairy came to a stop on her stomach, dazed and hurting a bit.
As she sat up and tried to recover, the cat closed the distance and knocked her across the floor some more. Coming to a rest on her back, Tink tried to get up, but was instead pinned under the cat’s paw. The pin did not crush her, but it was firm enough to keep her from moving. Watching her with triumph in its eyes, the cat known as Lucifer swished his tail as he plotted what to do with the strange mouse he had caught.
Behind him the room was a mess from the battle the cat had fought to catch his unfortunate prize.
