(OOC: Scene: Courtyard. WARNING: This thread may contain both FFXIII spoilers and/or Final Fantasy Versus XIII spoilers, read at your own risk.)
Silence... and darkness.
That was all this world seemed to offer... not even the roars of the beast which could be heard in the distance earlier no longer compared to the deafening sorrow and damnation this world was composed of. Even though the forces of Darkness and Light had yet to lay claim on this world, the Prince whom did not belong to this castle was not yet concerned... or perhaps, even aware... of the impending war that was raging in the worlds around him.
He stood motionless, having explored the entire castle, leaning up against one of the realistic monstrous statues that ringed the inner circle of the courtyard as he stared up at the hollow castle itself.
It reminded him so much of home... he just wanted to be off this world already.
So long had he been confined to that castle by his family, but not just at first like some poor, self-centered prince that wished to see the outside world... he got to escape the castle under the watchful eye of his brotherhood of friends... but he had been forever chained to that castle because of the crystal. Sworn to protect it from the invading marauders that constantly plagued the country, and yet he had broken that oath, tired of defending a geological structure that had given him these powers... not of the goddess Etro.
He tilted his head slightly at the stone gargoyle perched on the pillar he was leaning on... he had come to accept his gargantuan powers, but... at what cost?
He had been told of the legend of the Goddess Etro, that those that received the powers of the dead, saw the light the goddess blessed them with because they were... he couldn't fathom where that answer lead to. He did not believe the fairytale, and yet it all seemed to fit perfectly with what was happening to him... belief in what made sense, was to believe in his tragic fate hand in hand. And yet, he could not reverse his powers and give them up, or else the people surrounding him would suffer in torment at the hands of the enemy. To either die from inevitable sadness... or spread the burden to inflict upon others.
It was a terrible quandary there was no alternative to.
He turned his head back to face forwards, and shut his dark navy blue eyes. He took in a deep breath, keeping his lips thinly tightened together in a solemn expression. He tried to relax, and tell himself that his family back at home would defend the crystal without his interference unlike last time, putting both his life of the next in line to the throne and the crystal at risk all at once. They had gotten lucky that time, and it was better this way if he and the crystal were separated if they were both targets, and more so there was nothing he could have done if the crystal was already shattered.
He had made his difficult choice, to seek out the truth. Die, or let others die. The answer lay beyond the strange sea of stars.
Then... why was he still here?

Lightning was unsure how she even ended up in this world.
The last place that she remembered being in was Traverse Town. And in Traverse Town she got to see Serah again. And she was so relieved to know that Serah was alright. Even if Lightning hadn't been around to save her, a woman by the name of Yuna had done the deed of saving her sister from the Heartless. And Lightning was beyond grateful for that. Serah had already been turned to a l'Cie. She didn't need to lose her heart to some creature also. That would probably be one of the worst things that could happen to Serah. For Serah had such a big heart full of love. Love toward Lightning, and even Snow. No matter how much Lightning disliked Snow, she would always appreciate the way that Serah loved others. And without a heart...how could she do that?
Either way, Lightning was very glad that Yuna had been in the area to keep her sister safe. It was nice to know that some people were kind in the worlds. And willing to help and protect others. While some just chose to attack the weak, and spread the darkness. Lightning knew to be careful when it came to trusting others. Which is why she was being very cautious as she wandered around the castle. From what she could tell, this castle seemed to be fairly deserted. Usually, a castle would have many people present inside. Some sort of royal family, along with many servants or whatnot. But as Lightning walked around the castle, she didn't see anyone. Although, she could have sworn that she saw some of the household items move once or twice. Lightning knew that this wasn't possible though. And she just took it as her mind playing tricks on her. But, even though the castle seemed practically empty, this didn't change how Lightning was behaving. She still kept her guard raised, and was looking out for anyone or anything.
Lightning wondered a lot of things about this castle. What world she was in. Who did this castle belong to. Things along those lines. She figured this had to belong to some sort of King or Prince. It appeared to have a very regal feel to it. Nothing that Lightning ever saw back on the very modern city of Cocoon, or even when she had found herself in the world of Pulse. And even in any of the other worlds that she had journeyed to. Either way, it looked like it was going to be a first experience for her. She walked down one of the many staircases. For some reason, she felt like someone else was in this castle doing the same sort of exploring that she was. She hadn't seen anything, but often the eyes could miss things. She kept this thought in mind, as she headed to a part of the castle that she had yet to journey to. The nearby Courtyard.
As Lightning was about to enter it, she saw a person. Lightning reacted quickly, and she entered the courtyard quickly and almost silently, ducking behind one of gargoyles that kept a safe distance between them. Lightning liked to watch a person first. Mainly so she could tell if they were going to be an enemy or an ally to her. And also, to see if she noticed any tendencies that they might have.Tendencies that might carry on into the battlefield, should a fight come between them. Lightning's intense blue eyes focused on him. His clothing was very dark from what she could see. That really didn't tell her much. She couldn't tell if he was a fighter or not. People on Cocoon could recognize Lightning as a soldier due to the metal plate that she wore on her shoulder, showing her rank. Even if she was no longer a soldier, she still wore it. Lightning studied him as best she could, partly wondering if he had sensed her prescence. If so, then her attempt at hiding and studying him, would be pretty pointless. But she still continued, careful not to make much noise. She'd have to make a decision to attack or not soon.

He had to leave.
There was nothing else left for him here. Just a world with an empty castle, and empty answers. But he was just tired.... not tired physically, but tired of exploring for the day when there was nothing special to explore... and it was getting kind of lonely exploring these abandoned places that were seemingly full of hushed whispers. The prince took in one last inhale, and then opened his eyes, leaning back from the statue and turning to walk towards the gate that lead to the bridge. As he did, he thought he heard what sounded like someone inhaling from behind him.
He slowed in his step and took a look over his shoulder, but there was nothing there... just statues, and cold stone.
It seemed like this castle was still alive, and yet everything was inanimate... in a way, like the way he was now... solid and expressionless on the outside, but anguishing and full of despair within his heart. Maybe he was just imagining things, like he was with the furniture, or maybe not... either way, this place was making noises when there was no-one in sight, and it was defiantly eerie. He did not believe in ghosts, not even in the fairytale of the Goddess Etro from his world, just what he saw with his own eyes.
And what he saw before his path now, was a fallen idol.
Or a collasped statue, to be more precise, having been toppled off it's perch from the statue opposing the once Noctis had been leaning on, the impact on the ground and from such a far distance from it's original position that it had smashed into several tiny pieces. There had been a fight here... if the launched statue had not been an obvious clue, the giant claw marks on the ground were a dead giveaway. Perhaps there was someone here... it would explain the muffled roars he had heard earlier, coming from deep within the castle, but had stopped as soon as they had started.
All the more reason to get out of here.
Having no concern for something so trivial as a shatter sculpture, Noctis stepped through the mess, the granite of the statue crunching under his boot like gravel. Beyond lay the bridge Noctis had entered the castle from the woods and his gummi ship hidden beyond, his ticket to find a much more populated world and get some food and rest like any other common man, instead of being waited on hand and foot and sleeping within a large echoing castle like the one he was leaving behind him. He was about to peer down into the seemingly sharp drop into darkness that served as a moat beneath the bridge, when he thought he heard the sharp snap of gravel underneath someone's shoe.
He froze. That was definitely someone, this time, and he felt sick and tired of being stalked by echoes.
"I can see what you're doing, you know." he stated curtly out loud, not turning to face his pursuer because he was too shy to look them in the eye, but turned his head to peer over his shoulder at anything that could be behind him which had made the sound. It might be a person, it was hard to sense anyone at this distance and if they were deciding to be quiet, or it could be a animal or some rubble crumbling off the statue. If he was talking to himself, at least no-one had heard him, but the recognized it sounded familiar to his own boots stepping onto the broken stone.
Heavy, and fragmented... and possibly soon to be destroyed, the statue was also just like his heart.
He really hoped he hadn't gotten unlucky that someone had come to defend his intrusion into the castle, as he realized he had reversed the roles with his intruders... but there was nothing to intrude.
Just the tense silence, that followed his lonesome voice.

Lightning stood still. She was careful with trying to stay as calm and quiet as possible. It was pretty much dead silent. Mainly because it was the dead of night, and only the two of them were here As far as she knew though. Perhaps he had other allies in the house. Or maybe there was a third person that also just happened to be here alone. Like Lightning was and possibly, this man. Lightning's bright blue eyes focused on him and his movements. For the most part, he was just standing something. And while Lightning wasn't the best at reading emotions, his facial expression seemed to show that he was contemplating something. Lightning partly wondered exactly what he was contemplating. He seemed to be sort of troubled. Maybe some sort of internal conflict. That part, Lightning could relate with.
The main reason for her internal conflict was without a doubt Serah. Serah didn't do anything to trouble Lightning at all. Lightning brought this all on herself. With her constant worry about her sister. Lightning had always been a protective older sister, even when her parents were alive. But since they passed, Lightning's protection just went even further. Serah became her top priority, and she was almost always looking out for the well-being of her sister. And she was almost always worrying about Serah and if she was safe. Which is why Lightning went to all ends to save her after she found out about Serah becoming a l'Cie. While that was her problem, she preferred not to talk about it. Lightning was a person who tried to isolate and bottle things up. She'd prefer not to talk about things like this. Especially ones that pained her. Pain was a weakening emotion either. And she was always looking to be as strong as she could.
While Lightning thought of her own conflict for a moment, she looked to him once again. Assuming that he was thinking of something also, she just watched. She really didn't care if something was troubling him or not. She really wasn't someone to go around and help others with emotional type problems. She was willing to help someone in danger, if some monster-type creature was attacking. But Lightning wasn't one for talking about feelings and emotions. It just wasn't something that she was good at. Lightning watched as he started to walk away. Since the next moment he stopped. Her body froze completely and she tried to hold her breath, not wanting to make any more noise then she had to. But it turned out, some sort of statue had fallen. lightning looked confused. She wondered if she had done this on accident when she was initially coming out of here. She felt so stupid if she was the one to do something as foolish as that. Making rookie mistakes like that just wouldn't cut it.
To her relief he walked away again. Assuming he was no threat, Lightning sighed, but maybe it was a bit too loud. As he stopped once again. Lightning was getting very frustrated with herself. Why was it seeming like she was being so loud? Either that, or he was pretty good at sensing. Maybe she had underestimated him. He could be a skilled fighter, much like herself. And fighters seemed to be able to know and sesne the prescence of others. Lightning knew she could. She waited though, she wanted to know if he was really sure about her. And at his next words, she knew it was over. "Damn..." Lightning muttered quietly. Knowing that she would have to come out eventually, Lightning stepped out from her hiding spot slowly. She didn't really show any sort of guilt from the spying that she did. So she wasn't going to apologize. Lightning crossed her arms and she stood still, keeping a self distance between them. She could easily grip onto Blazefire if a fight were to start. After a brief moment of silence, she figured that something needed to be said.
"You have better senses then I would have thought..." Lightning said calmly.

And then another figure stepped out from behind one of the statues.
Noctis released he breath he seemed to be holding onto forever, at the hesitance at the chance there could or could not be someone following him, and someone had appeared who had taken his bluff. He hadn't been certain if someone was, it had just been an assumption, but the Prince was glad his hunch had been correct and had drawn his stalker out into the open where he could finally lay eyes on her. Dark blue orbs darted to shyly look at her for a few seconds, to take in what she looked like out the corner of his eye, before looking back out into the cold abyss below the bridge. She was a young woman with strawberry blonde hair in the clear light of the moon, but she had the rough, stern appearance about her like she had seen her fair share of battles. For what it was worth, she wasn't the most unpleasant company that he imagined was watching him.
But appearances were deceiving.
He knew this from his encounter with Stella, a woman back from his home world from a neighboring country, and she appeared polite and flirtatious like any other girl could be. And yet, none of that mattered when she appeared out of nowhere to challenge him, for reasons Noctis himself was still unsure he could understand. Being a beautiful young woman had nothing to do with how well they could do in battle. If this was the case, then the woman that had just appeared that looked like she could throw her weight around a figh,t and then some, could have been very dangerous indeed. But nothing was certain until any worth was proven in the field of combat.
Just who exactly was she, anyway?
It was hard to read the expression on her face, as she seemed just as solemn as he was, and the unknown about who she could be put him tensely on-edge. Her stern nature seemed to make him feel he should put himself on guard and keep his distance, everything about her seemed strict and factual, including the words she had used. Noctis expected she might have been from the castle, and that would have explained why he had heard whispers around him in the castle with no faces to match them... but why hide around a seemingly empty castle from visitors? If it had been a trap, they would have ambushed him by now, and unless they wanted him not to escape they wouldn't do it when he was leaving. He held his breath again, listening for more sounds, but he only heard the woman's breathing. She was waiting for him to say something, and a few moments after she spoke, Noct answered her.
"Just common sense." he said curtly, trying to be modest, but it came out in a more obvious tone as he thought about how her sigh that gave her away had been so loud in this silence.
His senses weren't that sharp anyway, not as much as others, but he had a lot of silences to shut out his thinking and just listen to the world around him.
Now would have been a good time to ask who she was, what she was doing here, and if she had come from the castle... a million questions buzzed around in his head, but he focused on one, from what he had seen with his own eyes to be the truth. He continued to look down and to the side, his back facing the mysterious warrior, looking down into the abyss that seemed to be a reflection of how he was feeling right now. Cold, empty... and alone. It was just another reminder of the reality of the world, how it seemed so hard to find anything good in the world, when everyone was selfish and looking out for their own survival.
Just like the war back at home he had escaped from.
Noctis wasn't any better than that himself; he didn't have any reason to care about this woman, only that the truth had been she was watching him discreetly. And that meant she had something to hide, that she would rather take the advantage to observe from behind the scenes at someone she didn't trust, rather than stand on her own two feet in the open to face him. Again, Noctis couldn't say any he was any different; he adverted his gaze from her, not wanting nor caring to look her in the eye because it was his nature, and yet he had never hidden from anyone as far as he recalled.
His own powers he had grown to accept at face value; he was not afraid to use them if necessary.
"Why have you been spying on me? It's because you thought I am some kind of threat... isn't it?" he spoke his question in turn with a clear, yet soft drawl, the tone almost sounding accusing and yet getting bluntly to the point. He didn't like to speak for any longer that it was necessary, and to show he wasn't afraid himself, he finally turned around to face her without fear, facing off in her direction on the stone bridge she had followed him onto. His expression blank, his eyes cold and distant, he stared at her stoically as he awaited a reply.
There was a howling from chilling wind that blew through the crevasse below them and through his ebony black hair, and when a tense silence once more.

As Lightning left her hiding spot she walked toward him slowly. After deciding where to stop, she focused her attention on him. Lightning made sure that she was a comfortable distance away from him. She didn't want to get too close, but she also didn't want to be too far. As Lightning grew closer, she took the time to look him over. She could see him a lot better, now that he was facing her. When she had been watching before, he had his back to her, so she couldn't see him that much. It also helped that Lightning was closer to him now. She looked him over carefully, studying his features. He seemed to be around the same age as her, a young adult. She could see that he was pretty well-dressed. Possibly suggesting that he may have a pretty good amount of wealth. In the cae of wealth, power could follow along quite often. The power could also be in fighting. Or it could be completely absent. Lightning was mainly acting based on assumption.
As Lightning studied him a bit, she felt like she was reminded about something. Mainly the fact that, he reminded her of someone. Someone that she knew very well. Surprisingly, she felt like he reminded her a lot of...herself. And this was something that surprised her. She mainly saw it from his actions. He seemed to be good at sensing, making her think that he was a fighter. He was very quiet like her, not speaking all that much. Mainly when spoken to. He seemed to be serious like her also. Lately, Lightning was meeting a lot of new people. And she befriended a pretty good amount of them. But even if she did befriend them, they were still very different from her. This was the first time where she felt like she met someone similiar to her. Perhaps she was looking to much into this. After all, she did just meet him. She barely knew him still.
Lightning listened to him when he mentioned that his sensing was just common sense. Lightning nodded her head. This was partly true. She did wonder if she offended him with this comment. She had partly shown her underestimating of him. Though she did admit that he was better at his senses then she had anticipated. Either way, Lightning was wondering even more about him then before. His tone made her wonder also. He seemed to state it as if it was obvious, which Lightning took as almost an insult to her intelligence. She didn't let this get her too mad though. She managed to control her short fuse. After all, the only one who could really get her that mad was Snow. Or if someone did something to just really push her beyond her limit.
Lightning was also not too mad because she knew he was right. She made it pretty obvious with that loud exhale. She was pretty frustrated with herself for doing that. Not because he managed to catch her, but because she was upset with how foolish she had been. All of those years of training as a soldier, and she let something like that happened. She knew that her fromer Lieutenant caught her doing something like that, she would have gotten a lot of trouble for it. Either way, she was out here now and she would have to talk to him now. More silence passed, as well as staring. Lightning didn't take her eyes off of him, though she made sure to still be aware of her surroundings. In case someone else was in the area, waiting to attack. He broke the silence with his next question, a question that Lightning had been expecting from him. It was natural to ask about this. After all, Lightning had been spying on him. She looked away from him while she answered, still keeping her arms crossed.
"Sometimes, its better to watch and learn first. You never know who is going to be your enemy or who is going to be your ally." Lightning said, looking back to him after she said this. Another moment of silence passed, and Lightning decided to take her turn to ask a question. "Who are you?" She asked bluntly.

He should have just left. What possible reason was there to stay here?
The exit was to his back, and yet Noctis could not simply turn around and leave his back exposed to her. Not that it had ever been a problem before... but this was a single strong warrior, not a army of moronic soldiers who thought simple bullets and rockets could hurt him. The thought of that reminded him both of how frighteningly powerful he had become himself, past being merely human... that, and of how he shouldn't let his conceited opinion of his powers get the best of him. There were people of equal and possibly greater power out there, like that man with the silvery hair that wielded a twin-bladed katana... the strange man in white robes that had visited his castle... and of course, the solider standing before him now.
He took a cautious step backwards as the woman grew closer, turning into a defensive stance.
Unlike the warrior advancing towards him, he wanted to keep his distance as far away from her as much as humanly possible, as he didn't know if he could quite truly trust her yet. And at the same time, he didn't want it to look like he was backing down from how intimidating she was coming across as now. Not that he was afraid of her... he had no reason to be, as of yet... but his shy nature was self-conscious of how cryptic and demanding she was coming across as now. That was the key difference between her and himself, but at the same time, she also broke eye contact and looked away as she started to speak as well.
Just as emotionally distant as he was... which he was used to, but rubbed him the wrong way at the same time.
She had not directly answered his question, which infuriated him a little, indirectly suggesting she had saw him as either an enemy or a foe in order to observe in secret what he was. He exhaled out quietly in annoyance, snickering a little at her words, turning his head away to think before looking back boldly at her. "There is some truth to that, however, I usually give my friends the benefit of the doubt, before they become my enemy." he underlined the statement, sounding like he was criticizing her words with his own intelligence. Perhaps he was a little offended with how vague she was being, and even more so when she demanded he tell her who he was without first politely introducing herself, so he decided to be just as cryptic back just to show her how infuriating what she was doing was.
He flexed his fingers of his motorbike gloves into his fist, the leather creaking slightly as he listened, letting tense anticipation build up between them before he spoke.
"It seems like you already have made up your mind of who I am, if you decide to watch your enemies, and only greet your friends." he countered with his own subtle answer, and shifted his weight on his feet, taking another step backward while lingering to stand his ground. He could feel this stranger's skepticism and arrogance towards him, and he did not like it at all, and he reminded himself that he had the option to leave before their heated words sparked into aggression. He had been raised to be a diplomatic prince, but he was not here on formal affairs, so why should he introduce himself to this rude woman if she didn't know any better? "Who I am is none of your concern, as who you are is none of mine. What you should be asking is, what kind of a threat am I, and what you are going to do about it." It was a statement, not a question. He could already tell he had aggravated her in some way, be it his words or simply the chemistry between them.
If this world held nothing for him except this unnecessary conflict, now would be a good time to leave, and the prince built up another slow, tensed inhale as he braced himself to either flee... or fight at the first sign of hostility.

Lightning noticed him move a few steps back, as she started to move closer. Lightning wondered why he did this. Either he was afraid or intimidated by her. Or both. Lightning wondered if she gave this vibe off to people as a first impression. Was she really...scary? She thought of herself of a lot of things. But she never really thought that she was scary. And even though Lightning was pretty cold in her personality, she didn't want people to be afraid of her. On the other hand, maybe it was better to be feared as opposed to admired. Less heartbreaks, she supposed. However, Lightning had locked up her heart a long time ago. Probably right after her parents passed away. In hopes of getting stronger. And it didn't seem like it was going to be opening anytime soon. But sometimes, little parts of her heat would shine out. She would never stop caring for her loved ones, especially Serah. No matter how much she tried to push her feelings away and whatnot.
However, Lightning had her doubts that he was actually afraid of her though. He probably just wanted to keep distance from her. In case he still thought that she was planning to attack. Plus, if he took a glance at her weapon, he would probably assume it just to be a sword. Meaning that he might think of her as more of a close range fighter. But the gun part was not very notable when it was in the case. Many probably made the assumption of Blazefire being just a close-ranged weapon. And while Lightning was stronger as a close range fighter, she could still do pretty well in a long distance fight. Though she mainly did it if it was absolutely necessary. Lightning listened to him speak, and she felt slightly insulted by his words. She got some sort of feeling that he was indirectly mocking her. Or that he thought that he was better then her. And while Lightning didn't like this, she still stayed pretty calm.
"Looks like we have some pretty different views..." Lightning said in a fairly quiet tone of voice. She looked down at the ground while saying this, but looked back up to him after she finished speaking. While she was acting calm, her facial expression seemed to have some sort of angry. Or just very serious, if one viewed it that way. Lightning watched him as he played around with his gloves. And at his next words, she just felt behind annoyed. She was slowly but surely, starting to lose that very short temper of hers. Her facial expression hardened even more, her anger appearing to be much more noticable then before. If that was even possible.
"I never said you were my friend nor my enemy. You are a stranger, which is why I am asking you who you are. " Lightning said, still managing to keep her tone calm and under control. She was still in control somewhat, but if he said anything else like this for much longer, she might lose it. Lightning had a very short fuse, which was one of her biggest weaknesses. Even if she pushed her emotions away to get stronger, she couldn't change some things about herself. And she would probably always have this very short temper. Another moment of silence passed between them and Noctis spoke yet again. And once again, the ex-soldier felt her anger rising slightly. Ever so slightly each time that he spoke. He might even give Snow a run for his money, for being the person to irritate her the most. Though it was still up for debate if he was going to be her enemy or her foe.
"You're right. Forgive me for asking such a simple question. And as for what I intend to do, it will all have to depend on your actions." Lightning said, still apearing to be calm. She wondered about him. He talked quite a big talk, but she wondered if he did have anything to back this up. Or if he was just acting, in the possibility of stopping her from fighting him. And if he wasn't a fighter, to save himself.

A few dozen steps back, and he could leave this place behind... and yet, it didn't matter.
He could see it on her face, and in her eyes, that she resented him. It was as clear as day, and the young prince stopped in his tracks, standing his ground. And she no longer maintained the distance between them... but it was what she didn't do that he noticed, more than what she did. Like him, she could have backed off towards the castle if she didn't want anything to do with him... and yet, her curiosity lingered on him, trying to figure out what kind of person he was.
Having interest in him, was a bad idea.
And he didn't seem to get on well with women, either... Stella was a living testament to that, as he shied away from her flirtatious advances, and all friends were male. The last thing he needed was to tick off another woman to add her to his list of adversaries... but she really was being quite forward with her advances, which he had been trying to fend off defensively. He had noticed the weapon at the woman's left-hand side, which meant she was right handed, but it didn't matter to him if it was anything from a sword to a crossbow. He would deal with it, no matter how he saw fit, as he had just about every weapon he had mastered to deal with any type of situation.
Dark blue eyes darted downwards, then looked up again to meet the stranger.
Her next words puzzled him. at first, but then realized she was still trying to figure out the enigma that he was. Perhaps trying to collect information about him, to see if he could be her ally, or use it against him later. Noctis was wary of such strangers encountering him, such as the white-hooded man in his castle, but she didn't seem as antagonistic with her words or her nature as the cloaked man had been. Especially with her next words, where he identified she was trying to explain herself, and Noctis realized his words had been more antagonistic than hers.
It was amazing how he had been the one backing off, but she had simply diffused the situation with her words in mere moments.
The prince calmed himself by closing his eyes, and taking a deep breath. Perhaps her intrusive nature to discover who he was had rubbed him the wrong way with his introverted personality, and he breathed out before opening his eyes again. If there was any tension left that he had built up, she had all but brushed it away with her apology, and Noctis was speechless in hindsight. It took him a moment after she had finished speaking, before he could find the words.
"No. It's fine. I apologize, as well."
He had left his world, but had not completely forgotten he should act with formality, now that he felt the female that opposed him was more worthy of such politeness. "Perhaps I should have not been so quick to assume that you were the enemy, as well. But... one thing is certain." he spoke again, this time looking away, not at the crevasse below the bridge but at the forest in the distant horizon. "You're not going to let me leave until you get some answers from me, one way or the other... are you?" he realized, uncomfortable with the quandary that was now looming over him, even though she was not pernicious in any sense of the word as far as he could tell.
It seemed this encounter could have been more than just a co-incidence.
Noctis did not believe in fate. In fact, he would choose to oppose fate, if it meant that he was meant to die according to the myth of the Goddess Etro for receiving the powers of the dead. Did that make him a necromancer, a reaper, surrounded by death? Perhaps, but he saw the facts for what they were at face value. With a sweeping motion of his right hand backward, and taking a defensive stance more than he had assumed one before, he closed his eyes and let go of the stressed exhale he had been holding. "If you want to know who I am, enemy or friend..." he stated, as a glowing energy radiated from his arm, and behind him neon lines were drawn out of nowhere until they formed a colorful glyph as a flash of light in his hand summoned his primary weapon the Falchion.
"...then, you will have to fight me for it. My path is set... I will not be held back."
(OOC: Tifa, you did it again, hun. You said enemy or foe again. *chuckles* You just made my day.)

{Gah sorry I'm such an idiot! I have no idea why I keep saying that.}
Lightning was a pretty forward person. She was only forward when she wanted something though. And everything else that was not her goal, she simply chose to push aside or flat out ignore. But when Lightning wanted something from someone, she wouldn't stop until she got it. Lightning initially did not want that much from him. She just wanted to know who he was and if he was a threat. If he answered simply, Lightning would probably just nod her head and then walk away. Unless she judged him as a threat, then she might have attacked. But the fact of it all was, neither of those occured. And Lightning was doing the exact opposite of both. She was persisting on, getting a bit aggravated with him and his personality. He seemed to be attempting to push her away, and she was doing the exact opposite again. She wasn't being herself. And she really didn't know what was coming over her.
Lightning's dislike for him seemed to be growing with each passing moment. She didn't like his personality, the way that he responded to her, and she got a feeling that she also didn't like the way he thought of her. From what she saw, he seemed to think of her as more of an annoyance then anything. Like an annoying kid. Lightning was assuming this just by his actions. She could be completely wrong. Lightning wasn't too good at reading people. People were either her enemy or her ally. Anyone else, she really didn't care about. They were just sort of around. And right now, she had a feeling that this man was going to become her enemy. She couldn't imagine ever becoming his ally. It just seemed so far-fetched.
Lightning's eyes focused on him, watching each move that he made. She noticed that after she spoke, he shut his eyes for a moment. Lightning wondered if this was how he managed to keep his cool and stay clam. She wondered if her words might have caused his temper to rise, and he was doing this to calm down. She knew a lot of people who used this method. Lightning could barely control her temper once it got out of hand. It was hard for her to catch it before she exploded. One of Lightning's biggest flaws was her temper. Though it could help her out sometimes, because she always got very riled up. And when she was riled up, it almost always caused some form of violence for Lightning. And in the battlefield, when she was like that, she could be just plain ruthless. Even more then she already was. Lightning wasn't at that point yet, but she could break within a matter of seconds. If he said one more thing to make her mad, then she would just lose it. Lightning looked confused when she heard Noctis apologize to her. Did he really mean it, or was he just saying it? Lightning really hadn't been expecting this from him. It probably would have been right for her to apologize as well. She hadn't been very polit. But her distaste for him was still strong. That and she was too stubborn to admit something like that, to someone that she didn't like much.
At his next question Lightning smirked a bit. "I normally would have walked away after a simple answer, though you elongated the whole process. And now...I still want my answers." Lightning said, her tone depicting the utmost amount of seriousness. The smirk that had been on her face, was now gone. Replaced by her usual cold expression, as she focused her attention on Noctis. Noctis started to speak again. But he also did something. He summoned his weapon. And there was some sort of light or aura surrounding him. Lightning took a moment to examine his weapon. She had never seen such a weapon like that. It was pretty, she would admit that. But it could just be pretty. Or it could be strong. It could be very strong. It might even be stronger than her own Blazefire. Lightning wasn't going to think such negative thoughts though. As he summoned his weapon, Lightning took out Blazefire Saber from its case, giving it a strong swing once.
"If you want a fight, than you got a fight." Lightning said and she bent her knees entering a sort of battle position. She raised Blazefire, to it was pointed at him. "Show me what you can do...stranger."

There was no turning back now.
The young Prince sighed inwardly to himself, but no longer felt the need to close his eyes and look away, his dark blue orbs focused solely on the woman before him. The insignia of his crest burned behind him brightly in contrast to the darkness around him, highlighting in white and blue neons, burning as brightly as his intense stare cast steadily forward at the opponent he had made out for himself. The Falchion that had appeared in his right hand in a brilliant flash of light started to whirl and click with the mechanical engine at it's hilt, powering up for an purpose known only to Noct himself, gears inside whirling quietly away like the almost silent hum of a computer. Noctis did not change his stance into one of battle, just simply stood there with his legs slightly apart as he had been before, his large sword-like weapon hanging by his side.
So it had come to this.
The raven-haired man took a deep breath, considering what he was about to face, now that he knew that there was no escape from this situation unless he surrender his information to the woman who quite clearly commanded it, or fight. And Noctis was not about to bend his will to someone so easily, if they addressed him in such a intrusive manner after clearly spying on him. Perhaps he was taking it out of context, but he would not simply give up information about himself to someone who acted so much like the enemy, especially the ones at home always spying and invading his kingdom to take away what was not theirs by right.
And he had his pride.
He wanted the woman to prove her worth against his own before she could consider herself as either the enemy, or a friend.
In contrast, Noctis was naturally an introvert, a shy person. If someone got into his face and demanded answers, he would immediately shut himself away from them, and become an absolute wall. No one could understand his problems, or begin to understand them, and anyone that forced themselves to do otherwise were going to be met with fierce, intense hostility of their own. All it took was enough of a push to make his tolerance about to break, and while that took a while with words, he was just like anyone else who shifted their mood to match the one influenced by their aggressor. And in this case, it was not helping that the female solider was being so pushy, and yet so similarly indifferent to himself to cause friction against him. He gave simple answers, and would give them to people to send them away and leave him alone, immediately dismissing their concerns and theories as if it didn't matter at all. He was used to that, as royalty. But when it came to conflict, especially over information that was personal and identified Noctis as an individual and thus a target, the time for talking would have to met with the ringing of their swords.
Why were women bothered by him? Couldn't they let him be himself?
Did they think just because he was a man, that his easygoing will was any more easier to bend with their ways that it would break?
The wind picked up, and Noctis ignored it as it gently blew through the individual strands of ebony black on his head, but frowned slightly when the grey storm clouds above started to rain.
As if the weather had tentatively predicted this fated battle were to happen, there was flash of lightning true to the namesake of the warrior standing before him, followed by the crack of thunder as soft rain hit the fresh earth. Noctis clenched the fingers of his gloves around the hilt of his Falchion, and a sigh escaped his cold lips again, listening as Lightning finally spoke. As she finished, his frown deepened even further, his hands clenching further into fists in a deep inner rage. The smirk on her face was gone as was his own, as was the humor and light conversation in their trade of words, and he knew that there would be no more further amusement in what was left of their idle banter. She drew her weapon, a curious one he had not seen before, for it looked like his own weapon with a gear mechanism in the hilt but of a leaner, more folded design, as if it unfolded into something else. Eyes scanning across this for the briefest of moments before resetting back to her face, this fact that she was already hiding something deceitful about her weapon registering in the back of his mind, angered eyes pierced into her own as she pointed it directly at him in offense.
As soon as she called him stranger from her colored lips, he thrust his weapon upwards as well... not to point back at her, but to throw the sword towards her at a dangerous speed.
Before she could react to block or dodge it, Noctis suddenly appeared from where he had been standing moments before to behind the weapon as he grabbed it, the weight of it's momentum pulling it along with him as he flew towards Lightning and thrusted the Falchion's blade down against her own. In just the few moments he had appeared, he pushed Lightning back with his blade with both his hands clutched around it's handle with the intent to catch her off guard and knock her off balance, and expressed what had made him so resentful towards what the stoic female had said as he prepared for his next attack.
"Who are you to demand answers from me!?"

A battle.
Lightning was ready for almost anything at this point. She was quite used to fighting. Being a former member of the Guardian Corpes, she knew how to fight pretty welll. A soldier should be well and able to fight, naturally. Even though Lightning was no longer a soldier, she would still always keep the tactics that she learned during her training and her time served. If she never joined, she probably wouldn't be the exceptional fighter that she was today. She wouldn't have Blazefire Saber, a weapon that was pretty much exclusive to the best and the strongest soldiers. The day that she received it, she had been so grateful. And it just inspired her to want to train even more. She thought of that passion she had when she first got her weapon. Could she recreate all of those feelings that she once harbored. That amount of passion? Or was she now just fighting for a meaningless cause.
Was this battle really important? Or was she now just fighting it for some selfish reasoning? Maybe she had been the one to start him to fight. Well...she actually had been the one. She let herself get out of hand with her desire to know that she was fighting. Was it really that important? Or was she just being immature with this? She really had let herself get a bit out of hand. His comments made her rather angry. And when she was angry, she reacted. Plus Lightning had a very stubborn nature, and she liked to figure out everything. So when people didn't answer her questions, or give any sort of information, she tended to get angry. And maybe a bit over angry. She knew that her temper tended to get the best of her. Maybe she was the cause of this whole situation.
However, Noctis was the one who proposed the battle. Lightning's demands might have been the cause of it, but he was the one who did propose the idea. He could have walked away. But then he might have feared Lightning attacking him. She wondered if fighting him was going to be a bad idea. She didn't know who exactly she was fighting or what his attacks would be. She might have met her match, or it might even be an easy defeat for her. Lightning watched as their eyes both met, each of them staring with the same intensity. She could feel the tension between them rising with each passing section. What a scene this was going to be. A battle between two in a mysterious castle. Under a black sky, with the only light coming from the large moon in the sky. Lightning too noted some of the changes in weather. The first thing she felt was the breeze, running through her pale pink hair. And then off in the distance she saw the flash of lightning. How ironic. And then the thunder followed behind it. The weather was really making the scene appear even more intense then it was before.
Lightning waited for him to attack first. She liked to watch her enemy attack first, so she could get a general idea of how she should be attacking. Or how she should not be attacking. The first thing that she noticed was him throwing his weapon. Just as Lightning was about to block it with Blazefire, he appeared behind her and managed to catch it. So he had some sort of teleportation power. He moved pretty quick with it. He moved pretty quick. Could he be a match for her own speed though? Lightning was pretty quick in battle, which was very well suited to the name that she assigned herself. However Lightning, was a bit caught off guard by this. It was a good way to start things, she would admit that. When he tried to move his blade up to hers, Lightning spun around quickly, blocking it with Blazefire. However, he did have the upperhand right here, and he managed to push her back a bit. She managed to keep her balance though, just slid back a bit.
Lightning listened as he spoke. His tone expressed some anger, at least thats how Lightning was able to sense it. She took this moment to start with her own attack. Lightning withdrew her blade from the clash with his, and she reacted very quickly, with a spinning motion and keeping Blazefire out and aiming a swing of it at him. She didn't stop here and she did one of her very well known tactics, of flipping backward, and shooting a single bullet at Noctis. When she landed, she also made the distance between the two of them wider. She was still just getting started though.

(OOC: Haha, I don't know how you read it that Noctis appeared behind you Tif, because he didn't. He just threw his weapon forward, then teleported in behind it. Simple.)
How could she? How could she even think that about him?
How could she do this to him?
The flash of steel came with the flash of thunder, and Noctis didn't even so much as smirk in satisfaction as he managed to push the mysterious woman backwards, so he could follow up with his attack. He went with a low sweep from his blade, but the woman had started spinning with hers in a total defense and deflected it, much to his disappointment. He brought his Falchion back up to strike her as she suddenly leapt backwards, doing a flip, and was just about to throw his weapon again back at her when the weapon changed form, and she sudden shot at him. Noctis was caught off-guard himself, and it was lucky she had not been aiming at any vital part of his body in particular, or else the battle would have ended right there and then instead of the bullet passing painfully straight through his shoulder.
Damn, that hurt.
So her sword also transformed into a gun... clever. If Noctis had not been so absorbed in registering this, he would have been focusing on the pain of being shot, and pressed a hand down on his wound momentarily to apply pressure and clot the wound. He looked at the stranger with a dark glare, as if she had just unleashed hell from his anger by wounding him. She had a gun? Well, she wasn't the only one.
He calmly started walking towards her, exhaling a slight grunt out of his nostrils, rotating his shoulder more like he was warming up than that he got hurt by the bullet wound.
Then he threw his Falchion before him again, this time in a spinning motion, letting it go some distance towards Lightning before he teleported once more. Catching the weapon in his hands and spinning around on his heel on it, as Lightning had done, he covered the distance he had in a offensive motion... the best offense was a good defense. If she shot towards him now, the bullets would be deflected. Of course, he could just summon his single weapon as a shield before him, but this way he could attack while defending and save that special card up his sleeve for when she attempted to shoot him again. Then, he stopped and stuck his sword in the ground to stop his momentum, facing his challenger before him as he quickly jumped up and stepped on the hilt of the blade as he used it as leverage to leap forward into the air.
The rain continued to splash down on him, dripping wet over the bridge from his form, as lightning flashed and roared behind him in the background.
While airborne, the Falchion disappeared as Noctis summoned another weapon, this time a machine gun out of thin air. With the firing option on semi-automatic, he let off a short burst of bullets towards the woman, not aiming at anywhere in particular like she had done. Because the bullets were merely a distraction... as he came back down to earth, the machine gun disappeared and he grabbed out of thin air before him a large serrated pole-arm, which he brought down upon the enigmatic woman. He was hoping that the distraction of bullets she had managed to block with her gun-sword weapon, so she would not have any defenses to block his serrated blade, but if the bullets hurt her instead as they had done him and she was going to block his blade, it was something he could live with.
His steely gaze of dark blue eyes met her once more, full of bitterness but with fierce determination.
He had barely begun to show the true cusp of his powers; but he was not concerned he would need to use them to show this lady a lesson in ordering information out of him that was not hers to take by right. Noctis was a individual of free will, and he did not have to give information about himself to anyone out of his own freedom of privacy. He had initiated the fight, sensing how hostile the female had been towards him, but she had no right to interrogate him as she had. They were both at fault for this battle to occur, to test each others powers as a alternative to telling who they were, and to show each other their true strengths. Once he had beaten her, he would show her the error of her ways for being drawn to him for questions, and maybe if he was feeling charitable enough he would at least tell her his name.
But for now, all he was telling her right now was how dangerous a threat he can be, as much as with potential she was.
The battle had just begun, and hopefully it would not end in tragic sadness.. butn nothing was certain at this point in time.

{Honestly...neither do I xD. I posted that on a Monday, and whose brain isn't fried on Monday?}
Lightning landed swiftly from the flip motion, landing with her knees bent. She looked up from the floor, focusing her attention on him. She looked to see that her bullet had also been aimed successfully. She wasn't too pleased with where the bullet had landed though. Not exactly an area of much pain. He would still be able to fight with full ability. Lightning wouldn't want a victory from a simple gunshot anyway. She wanted a fight. She hoped that the bullet might weaken him slightly. So she could have the upperhand in the battle. At the same time, she did want the playing field to be equal. It could make the victoy sweeter. And even make the loss a bit more noble. However, Lightning didn't fight to lose. She fought to win. And she used her method of shutting out all other thoughts, and focusing on a goal. And that goal was going to be a victory.
Lightning focused on her opponent. She watched as he gave her that deep glare. He seemed to be quite angry with her. Lightning matched his glare with one of her own, and hers was just as intimidating. If looks could kill, they'd probably both be dead from the look the other was giving. She saw as he started to walk again. Lightning stood ready, keeping Blazefire in a ready position. She wasn't going to just start attacking him as he walked. Lightning wanted to see what he was going to do. And if she could, counter the attack. Lightning watched as he threw his weapon again. This time, she was ready for it, and managed to dodge out of the way. She turned her head back to him, watching as he caught it. Lightning took this moment to attack. She started running toward him, having Blazefire ready for a good attack. But just as she jumped up, to bring her weapon down on him, he already started a fresh attack.
He was doing a movement similiar to the one that she had done earlier. A spinning motion, with his weapon out. And because of this motion, Lightning's attack had failed. She was hit by the motion of his weapon. Not too hard, but it did send her falling back. Lightning was lucky though, and she managed to land on her feet. Even without the activation of her gravity bomb. Quite a catlike move, actually. Lightning felt the rain pouring down on her. Quite a scene for this battle. Her light pink hair was soaked, and clung onto her face now. She could feel the rain water on her blue gloves, but she still managed to keep a tight hold on Blazefire. She wouldn't let something like rain ruin a battle for her. The weather shouldn't matter. All that mattered was the attacks.
Lightning watched as he stopped this motion and put his blade in the ground. And then he chose to step on it, to give him more height it seemed. Or something along those lines. What surprised Lightning the most was when he was in mid-air. He actuallly summoned another weapon. lightning refused to utter this out-loud, but she was very impressed by this ability. From what she could tell, he summoned some sort of machine gun. So he was going to try and shoot at her, huh? Lightning was pretty good at dodging bullets. Shouldn't be much of an issue. As he started to shoot, she used Blazefire to dodge the bullets. Lightning managed to block all of the bullets. But the next move, she never saw coming. She felt the blade come down on her and she winced. She was such a fool. But Noctis had brought a lot more fight out of her now. And she wasn't going to back down. She had to step it up.
Lightning saw him glare at her, and she mirrored one, showing her emotion. She was angry. And when she was angry she put up a better fight. She threw one of her arms out and activated Grav-con Unit {Or Gravity Bomb. Name changed for English it seems}. With this, electric lightning seemed to be all over her body. In this form, she could defy gravity in almost every way, and her speed increased as well. She looked to Noctis before jumping up in the air for a moment. She jumped very high in the air, so he wouldn't be able to match her height. Lightning came down on him fast, with Blazefire, as a bit of revenge for what he did to her before. She flipped back landing swiftly on the ground. But she wasn't done here.
Lightning ran toward him again, and she jumped up. She turned her body sideways almost, thanks to Grav-con Unit. With this, she aimed a double kick motion at him, to push him away. She than landed on her feet and began to fire a series of bullets at him, as she started to run to meet him again. She stopped the bullets abruptly, and tried to slice him with Blazefire once more. She was hoping that this was enough of to even things in the battle.

The lightning came, in more of a literal sense than Noctis realized at that time, and the thunder echoed hauntingly behind it.
His spiraling attack that he used back at the woman had been a success, as well as his attack with his serrated sword, but now came her offensive. Rain whipped through his ebony locks, and the prince drew a hurried breath as the warrior returned his assault. This time she had done something new and cast some kind of spell, and the light reflected in his eyes illuminated from her form in a dazzling display of electricity. He had to assume that this was some kind of thunder spell, and started to summon one of his weapons to defend himself, but before he knew it she had sped up her momentum and leaped high in the air, coming down on him faster than he could comprehend. He took the blow, and grunted in pain, skidding and sliding back across the wet paving of the bridge below his feet.
He came to a stop, knelt on one grazed knee and with his arm and weapon on the ground on either side to keep the rest of his body off the ground, looking up at the stranger with that intense glare through wet bangs covering his navy blue eyes.
There was more to come, and the prince exhaled his heavy breath, inhaling again as she defied gravity and spun towards him again, kicking out with her feet. Switching weapons, he let go of his serrated polearm as it disappeared onto the rack of floating weapons surrounding him in a flash of light, and pulled another one from the air as the female thrust her legs out at him. He held his new weapon, a swallow blade with a serrated handle, in front of him as a deterrent to block each kick and push the recoil of each one back at her as an absolute defense to counter her speed. He kept it out as the rain trickled onto the new steel and sweat mixed with raindrops, but his grip remained firmly lodged around the middle of the weapon as he watched her flip backward. He had been forced back in defense by the move however, to prevent him from loosing balance and slipping over, and watched as bullets were shot towards him again.
The lightning he had witnessed covering her body was unlike anything he had ever seen, but he had been keeping the fact to be aware of bullets in the back of his mind.
Lightning and thunder clashed in unison, as did the two warriors locked in the heat of battle with their bodies in the clash on the big bridge, lightning and nothing but a mere echo of a man.
The bullets zoomed in towards Noctis at wicked speeds, but unlike the lightning-covered woman, they still came at the same speed as they had before. Noctis simply had to raise either side of the twin-bladed weapon he wielded, instead of moving it to either side, which he did so and deflected the bullets. It seemed both of them knew the other was capable of blocking them with just a mere flick of their blades, so they were going to have to get more creative with how they were going to have to use them, but Noctis had no time to worry about that as the solider came for him again with her gun transformed back into her sword. He had expected the speed she was coming at him now, having learned from the first blow she had struck him down with, but it still wasn't enough for him to dodge out of the way completely in time.
As he leaped back to evade her rapid blow, she struck him in mid-air, and he staggered and slipped backwards to pullet off the edge of the bridge.
But Noctis was no stranger to gravity, and had no fear of it anymore, as before he plummeted into the depths below he grabbed his hand on the side of one of the four large statues that stood in each corner of the bridge. Swinging his body and legs around, he swung around the back of the statue, and using the momentum of the blow sling-shoted him around at twice the speed and force as he normally would at Lightning. He threw his swallow blade at her, teleporting himself behind it once more in order to keep as much momentum going as possible, switching the weapon to make a horizontal strike with a short sword with hooks at the end of it as he passed by her. He grabbed the opposing statue opposite the first one on the other side of the bridge, swinging around it as well, and as he came around the other side threw his weapon again. Yet this time not at Lightning but in the air above her, and teleported to the weapon as he switched weapons once more to a large concave-handled hand-guarded lance, striking down at her in a vertical sweep.
He lunged backwards as he landed, pushing off the ground to gain distance from her, and stabbed his weapon into the ground, flipping back onto his feet as he did so.
The lightning flashed again, his silhouette thrown across the expanse of the distance between them on the shiny wet bridge, the echo of thunder resonating loudly across the expanse of the structure and through his own heart.
"You'll never get others to rally to your cause, if you give them no choice, but your own. Maybe it is better... if things are fine the way you leave them." he called in a flat, monotone voice as they came to a standoff once more, being serious about not standing down from what he believed in.
