Well, how does a Death God top a spectacular preliminary round of his own tournament? By making the rest of the rounds even better, of course. The stands and arena was empty currently, everyone avoiding the repair process. Hades stood in front of his throne, assessing the damage. He chuckled at the sight of the ruined stadium. The mayhem was amazing! He clapped his hands and a blast of white light enveloped the stadium. When it subsided, the stands and the battlefield were fully restored, with added bonuses. The battlefield now included several platforms of varying heights and sizes. Most of them were suspended in mid-air, but a few near the bottom were attached to posts secured in the ground.
A gong sounded and two gates opened up, signaling the combatants forward. The stands quickly filled as the warriors took their spots. Hades shouted across the stadium, "Welcome to Round Two! You'll see a few differences in the arena this time. I've added multiple platforms to enhance the battles. I know many of you like to hop around like rabbits on caffene, so here's your chance! I'm sure you'll also be glad to know that I've created barriers around the stands, so the spectators will not be injured. Feel free to cut loose in this round!" A shout of joy came from the spectators as they were glad they wouldn't be burnt, blown away, frozen, pelted by rocks, or anything else.
Hades, however, was not finished yet. He spoke again, "In the North Corner, we have -Claire-!" More cheers roared from the stands and then fell quickly. "In the South Corner, we have -Hayden-!" Another round of cheers rose and fell. Hades then finished with, "But what kind of Hades Cup would this be without some stipulations, huh? In this round, I'm gonna take away... Summons and Transformation abilities! And to make sure you follow this rule, I'm going to do this!" Another ball of energy left his hands and created an invisibile field around the arena. "This will ensure that you follow my rules. Now, fight!"
-OOC: Okay, now for rules. You can't use Summons or Transformations at all. That includes drive forms, trance, metamorphosis, or anything else that follows these lines. You cannot use Summons of any type, including GFs, Materia Summons, or any other types under your Summon sections. All of you should know what I'm getting at here. Attempting this will not only make your favorite deadman angry, but result in immediate disqualification. There is a 72 hour post limit and a 2 week limit on the round. So have fun, post frequently, and kick some butt. I look forward to seeing how this round goes. Don't disappoint me, now!-

Hayden walked out of the arena quite worse for wear. His duster was torn all to shreds from the harsh tornado that had been the wind titan, but thankfully his other clothing seemed relatively intact. His white shirt with a tribal sun pattern was only torn around the sleeves and hem, and his slacks were only torn below the knee. Hayden ditched the duster coat on a hook in the waiting room and took a drink of the healing water that the flame-headed god of death had provided. They worked quickly, but left a bitter aftertaste. He waited in the room for his name to be called, and he wasn't kept waiting long. He was facing someone named Claire. As he entered the arena, he discovered that everyone's favorite flame-head had added platforms to the fighting area, some of which seemed to be held aloft by only telekinesis. Hopefully, nobody would disturb Hades' concentration while the platforms were in use. Hayden entered the arena from the southeast corner as he was announced, to a nice round of cheers. He felt something as he stepped past the pillar, and reached back to find an invisible barrier. Well, that's how they'd be kept from inflicting collateral damage. Hayden sized up his opponent. She was in the preliminaries with Hayden, and thus, knew far too many of Hayden's tricks. He had seen the woman infuse her chakrams with ice and create a tornado. Hayden guessed that she fought with magic, but whether it was just ice or other forms of magic, he had yet to see. He decided that hiding his main cards was a waste of time. The King, Queen, Jack, and Page of Swords were suspended at the size of a large atlas in front of him. His trusty Ace was up his left sleeve, as usual, and prepared to intercept a blow to Hayden's wrist, or to be used for a surprise attack. The major arcana were hidden in his right sleeve, and Hayden felt he didn't need to make the first attack, instead taking a defensive maneuver, using the King and Queen as midair steps to reach one of the lower platforms before suspending them back between himself and his opponent, before calling out to her. "Let's give these folks a good show, shall we?"

The preliminary round of this tournament had left Claire more injured than she would have preferred. She had cuts all over her body from the multiple objects that had been flying around the arena. All of her wound stung and it made the trip back to the waiting room unpleasant. She did indeed make her way back however and took a healthy swig of that healing water. She instantly felt rejuvenated and she made a mental note to take some of this stuff with her when she left. Now whether she was allowed to do so or not was irrelevant. She was going to do it anyway. That's just how she rolled. She didn't have to wait very long before the next round was announced and she made her way out to the arena.
So she was going to fight some guy named Hayden huh? She had seen him during the preliminary and didn't think he was anything special with those cards he was flinging around but nevertheless she knew better than to underestimate an opponent so even though she thought his fighting style was a joke she would still be taking him seriously. Claire stepped out into the arena as hothead made her introduction. The crowd started cheering and Claire immediately wanted to shut them up in a very violent manner. But she forced those thoughts out of her mind and concentrated on the battle ahead of her. The next piece if information she heard from Hades irked her a bit to say the least. No summons or transformations? That meant that she couldn't use Diablos. Well, that wasn't cool. Oh well, she wouldn't need him to stomp this kid's face into the ground.
Hades gave the signal to start and Claire noticed that he was going into a defensive stance. She knew from her training that this most likely meant that he would not be making the first move. She really didn't have a problem with this though. Hayden spoke to her saying that they should give them a good show. A show? Claire wasn't a performer. She'd give them a murder, but not a show. Claire made no verbal response to Hayden's comment. But rather decided to make early use of the platforms suspended around the arena and gain the high ground. Claire jumped up onto a platform about 10 feet in the air and launched one chakram at Hayden aimed for his head and then jumped over to a 15 foot tall platform to Hayden's left and threw her owhter chakram aimed at his torso.

Hayden was a little thrown when his opponent didn't respond. She clearly wasn't the type for banter. Oh well, more talking for Hayden. "Come on, Claire-bear! Indulge me a bit. I'm a showman, always have been!"Hayden let out a laugh as his opponent launched a chakram at his head from a platform equal to his own. So it begins. He ducked backwards underneath the disc, continuing the motion into a backflip, avoiding both the attacks. As he came up from his roll, he jumped up onto a 15 foot high platform, equal to the one Claire was standing on, and with only one platform separating the two. As he jumped, his major arcana began revolving around him. When he landed, he thrust his arm out and grabbed the Wheel of Fortune. As his hand connected with this card, he sensed a greater level of power in it. Moving on instinct, he thrust the card forward, summoning the illusory wheel with the three demons perched on it. As the wheel began to spin, Hayden used his card to focus not one, but two spells. Thunder and Blizzard were both cast at Claire. As Hayden's major cards returned to his hand, he stood up straight, looking dead at his foe. "So, Claire, nice work in the prelims. You just about killed at least three of us. Teamwork just isn't your thing, is it, madame?"ABILITIES USED: The Wheel of Fortune Hayden draws this card out of the air, summoning an image of the wheel that is drawn on it. The wheel is not solid, but a visual representation of the spell. From this point, Hayden can exclaim state any two different spells, or just one spell, from this list: Blizzard Aero Fire Thunder Zero Gravity The wheel will then spin, casting the spells at a target of Hayden's choice. The spells must be cast simultaneously. Aero is the same version of Aero that is used in Birth By Sleep, minus the chance for an Air Toss status effect. This ability has a cooldown of two posts. Her attacks had missed and now her opponent was on equal ground. She was mad enough that her chakrams had failed to hit their marks but Hayden had begun speaking again. This was a fight, not a debate, but even if it was Claire would just cut him down anyway. But what really irked her was what he called her. Claire-Bear? CLAIRE-BEAR? The kid must have a freaking death wish. And on top of that he wanted her to go along with his showboating? Like that would happen. Claire stared at the man as her chakrams returned to her. She caught them as the man finished speaking. [pink]"You must want to die pretty badly if you're calling me something like that."[/pink] She began getting ready for another attack but it seems that Hayden wanted to have a turn going on the offensive.
Hayden's card started flying around him and Claire prepared herself for whatever trick he tried to pull. Eventually he touched one of his cards and when he did a Thunder and a Blizzard spell were cast at her. Claire quickly jumped to another platform and avoided the Thunder spell and a direct hit from the Blizzard but it still did some damage to her. However this didn't faze Claire in the least if there was any physical pain, and there was, she did not show it. Instead she just looked at Hayden from her other platform and smirked at him. [pink]So he wants to play it that way does he. Fine with me.[/pink]
Hayden began talking again. [pink]Doesn't this guy ever shut up?[/pink] She did hear his words though. They were dripping with sarcasm. At least to her they were. He talked about the preliminary match stating that to his recollection she almost killed three of the other combatants. [pink]"Oh really? Then next time I'll make sure you die. After all, teamwork is for those who actually care about whether or not their team lives or dies."[/pink] Claire jumped up and cast Fire on Hayden and then on her decent onto Hayden's platform then threw both of her chakrams at the same time coming down right down on top of him. It was Claire's intention to use the short range of her attack to minimize the chances of if Hayden dodging the attack and if was luckier still that he would be to distracted by the Fire spell to even notice her close range air attack.

"Die? Why would I die here? This is just bloodsport. I plan on dying of old age, or else in a titanic battle. Not here."Hayden smirked as his opponent was clipped by his blizzard spell. He was definitely not going for an offensive. Those chakrams of Claire's were an all-range weapon, and he'd be too busy fending off blows to be able to charge and close the gap. Instead, he stood his ground as Claire launched a fire spell. Suspecting trickery, or at the very least, melee combat, he brought up the Queen, King, and Jack cards in a triangle, blocking the fire spell as his major arcana began whirling yet again. This time, his right hand grabbed the Hanged Man from the vortex, and he lowered his makeshift shield of cards to cast the spell, just in time to see Claire coming down like a meteor. He stumbled back as the seven ropes fired off from the card and attempted to bind Claire in place, throwing up his left arm to catch one of the chakrams on the concealed Ace. He recieved a cut on that shoulder for his troubles. Regaining his balance as he sucked in a sharp breath from the pain, he started the King, Queen, Knight, and Page slowly moving in a circle in front of him. He checked his shoulder. He'd have to rely more on his telekinetics to fight that his usual mixture of street combat and his cards. Thankfully, his banter was completely unaffected. Who knew, maybe Claire would get mad enough to forget the transformation rule? Doubtful. But, more importantly than that, the show must go on, and watching two people duke it out in bitter silence just isn't as fun as watching them exchange words alongside blows. "Now you're getting it, Claire-bear! Come on, threaten me some more, the crowd loves it!"True to his words, every time that one of the pair had spoken, the crowd had cheered. Mob mentality, combined with bloodsport frenzy, and just a dash of awe at the conversation going on while the two combatants locked horns in mortal combat, all pointed to the fact that they wouldn't stop any time soon. ABILITIES USED: The Hanged Man: When Hayden draws this card, he holds it forward with the image facing his target. From this point, seven ropes will come out of the card and attempt to constrain the target. If one rope makes contact, it will attempt to bind itself in place and allow the other six to catch up. The ropes will actively try to avoid being cut, but they become immobile after tying around something or someone. They dissipate after one post. Her fire spell had been deflected but her chakram attack had partially succeeded in giving Hayden a fresh wound that would hopefully somewhat limit his effectiveness in this battle. Claire knew that this guy could be beaten, all she would have to do in keep up her barrage of attacks and eventually his defenses would break and he would fall. She doubted that she would be allowed to finish him off though and he knew it too. Hence his comment about not dying here. Claire figured that Hades wouldn't let her kill him. But then again he might. Oh well, either way she'd have enough fun cutting him up a bit and maybe breaking one or two of him limbs. To Hayden's credit though he did have a counter ready just as she landed on the platform in front of him.
Seven ropes shot out from one of his cards and tied themselves around Claire's wrists, ankles, waist, neck, and one on her upper left arm and then they were pulled tight preventing her from moving. She was still able to open her hands however and her chakrams returned to her. She struggled to speak since the ropes, including the one tied around her neck, was consticting her airway. [pink]"Well I can't... move. I guess... you win. Unless... Am I forgetting something? Oh yes, this. You said... the crowd loves threats? Here's a threat."[/pink] Claire's eyes flashed crimson as her chakrams began revolving around her. Thundara was the chosen spell this time and a ten foot tall formed around Claire that sparked and kackled with electricity. The tornado cut away the ropes one by one until Claire was free and then she sent the whirling vortex of lightning directly at Hayden.
While it was true that she was free of the ropes they were tied pretty tight and the areas they were tied to ware pretty sore even though they weren't on for very long. Claire jumped back onto a platform further away and watched to see how Hayden would deal with her Chakram Cyclone. Especially since she used it as such close range. Clare massaged her throat since one of the ropes had been tied tight around her neck. She would make Hayden pay dearly for that trick.

The crowd was going nuts. Frankly, Hayden was impressed with himself that he had managed to give his opponent a nice bluff, since his Hanged Man ropes were far from permanent. He started walking forward when Claire found the strength to speak through her constricted throat. Threat? Hayden thought, followed by mental dots being connected. OH HELL! It was all that Hayden could do to keep from screaming his expletive for the whole world to hear as he remembered his opponent's maneuver in the preliminaries. He started moving backwards, clutching his left arm with his right as the giant thunder tornado appeared, quickly cutting all the ropes. Hayden had just enough time to maneuver the King of Swords in front of him and enlarge it to the same height as himself before he was bodily flung off the platform, landing hard on another floating one about 5 feet below. As he swung up to his feet and the bits of cut rope faded away into nothingness, he struck himself in the forehead with the heel of his hand. Idiot! Now you can't do anything! Hayden then realized that, while attacking wasn't an option, there were other things that needed doing. Drawing the Ace of Swords out of his left sleeve, he cut a strip of cloth from the bottom of that sleeve, quickly tying it firmly around his cut arm. It still hurt to move, but he wasn't bleeding anymore, and the pain was reduced a bit now that the cut wasn't exposed. He'd need to replace all his clothing after this tournament. Maybe Hades would have some spare duster jackets lying around? Doubtful, after all, you don't take anything with you when you die. Now that he didn't have to hold his left arm, he'd be a little more effective. He contemplated the use of his other ace in the hole, the Judgment tarot, but decided that it'd be a moot point from this distance. If she came in close and there was no option, then Hayden would use it, but he would definitely prefer not to blow his secret tech this early in the games. Gone was the banter of a few mere seconds ago: This was serious as the plague now. ABILITIES USED: Wheel of Fortune cooldown ready! It would seem that Claire had the advantage in this battle. She had escaped Hayden's little rope trick and clearly caught him by surprise by in the process with her Chakram Cyclone. It was disappointing that he had managed to put a defense up before the cyclone hit him but he was basically thrown from the platform and landing on a lower none to gently. Claire watched from her position on the high ground as Hayden covered his shoulder wound from her earlier attack. [pink]Aww, no witty comebacks this time? I think you're losing your touch.[/pink] Claire taunted as she began pacing. [pink]"You were oh so talkative just a little bit ago. What happened?"[/pink] She started laughing but quieted down moment later as a dark expression came over her features. [pink]"It's time for you to die."[/pink]
She was pretty sure that there would be no killing allowed in this tournament but she so wanted to end this pathetic man's life. But then again she wanted to end a lot of people's lives so that desire wasn't anything special. Claire stopped pacing then suddenly springs into action, launching one chakram off to the side in one arc this one will loop around and them come in to attack Hayden from behind then she lthrow's her second chakram to attack him from the front and delayed it so they would both chakram would meet their target at the same moment from both sides. Then Claire leaps up and cast Thundara at Hayden from above so the spell would also meet ti's target at the same time as the chakram from above.
With her attack completed she landed on another platform about 10 feet above Hayden's position and turned around to see what how the boy would defend against this three pronged attack if he was able to at all. She had the advantage right now and hoped that this attack would help her maintain it. It would be embarrassing if she lost to this nobody. She would not allow herself to lose. Claire would do whatever it took to win.

Hayden started to breathe deeply, gears turning in his head as Claire started to play the banter game. His cards began whirling like his thoughts, and he saw a chance when Claire attacked him. Grabbing the Wheel of Fortune card and casting a Zero Gravity spell at Claire, he kept the cards spinning as he used an Aero spell to knock the Chakrams away from him with a small cyclone. He took a Thundara to the head, but shook it off. He sure wasn't losing in round one, not if he had a say in the matter. Jumping to a nearby platform, then another, then another until he was on the same one as Claire, he drew his Judgement tarot card out of the air. As it emitted a flash, Hayden made a comment. Not a joking one like earlier. His voice was flat, serious, and cold as ice. It was a marked change from his earlier, warm demeanor. "I didn't want to blow my ace in the hole so early in the tournament. Be proud of yourself, Claire."His 56 minor arcana tarot cards began whirling around him at high speed, his eyes glowing bright yellow. He rushed Claire, striking with his cards from every direction except the back. Let her dodge this and fall straight down to the ground. Hayden could use the high ground. Claire had to admit this guy could handle himself in a fight. Not many could almost completely evade her combination attack like Hayden had. He completely blocked the chakrams but took the Thundara directly. But almost as soon as she attacked Hayden hit her with a spell that caused gravity to disappear underneath her and she was suspended in mid air. Claire looked around wondering what the hell was going on then her sight set on Hayden as he jumped from platform to platform until he occupied the same one that she did. He drew one of his cards and it flashed as he spoke.
So he was going to use what sounded like his final trick on her the one, she guessed, he wanted to keep hidden for a future round. Well it was fitting that he would be displaying it now because he wouldn't be making it to the next round. Claire would make sure of that. But first she would have to survive his next move and because she was currently suspended in the air and couldn't do much to evade. His eyes flashed yellow and Claire was soon being bombarded and cut from all sides from the numerous cards Hayden had attacked her with and once the attack was down the zero gravity spell wore off and Claire dropped to the platform and then rolled off and fell to the ground.
Some cuts were deeper than other but they all hurt like hell. Claire was definitely in a large amount of pain but slowly and after a couple of failed attempts she finally made it to her feet. She looked up at Hayden and smirked even though blood coated her clothes and skin and her pain is very evident in her eyes. [pink]"You think I'm done? You think you've won? I will end you boy.[/pink] Her strength was waning but she would not lose to this disgrace. Claire used Quake on Hayden's platform to make his footing unstable and with luck he would jump up into the path of the Blizzara that she cast right after Quake. After she cast her magic she fell to one knee. She felt exhausted but she would not stop until her enemy was defeated.

Hayden took a bloody satisfaction in the fact that he had managed to strike Claire with all of his cards, while still avoiding striking anything too vital. If Claire was going to live through all that blood loss, though, it looked like the round had to end fast. A distracting fatigue nipped at the back of Hayden's mind; the concentration required to maintain his Judgement Tarot spell was the only thing keeping it at bay. Maybe that's why his thoughts were so off. When the platform began to shake, he thought it was the work of Hades. So, he wants to play favorites? He didn't suspect that Claire was the one doing it. He was angry now, jumping forward off the platform and straight into a blizzard spell. The impact was one thing, but it froze some of the blood that was oozing from the cut on his arm, making it hard to move, but stanching the bleeding better than his emergency bandage. However, the chill affected his other limbs, and he didn't land properly. He barely managed to avoid breaking a bone on his way down. As things were, his legs were sore and hard to move, but move he did, advancing on Claire and attempting to surround her with levitating cards. If his maneuver succeeded, she wouldn't be able to move without cutting herself on one of the 56 razor-sharp edges pressed against her. "Yield. I don't want to kill you."ABILITIES USED: Judgement: Hayden draws this card, and it emits a bright flash. Claire smirked with satisfaction when she saw that her tactic had worked. The quake successfully served as a diversion for the Blizzara spell. The spell hit it's target and Hayden came falling to the ground. He managed to land on his feet though but it wasn't a smooth landing. Claire simply watched as he did so and soon he spoke to her. He wanted her to yield? Telling her to admit defeat was just begging to be killed in Claire's book. [pink]"Kill me? You don't have the guts to kill me. But I won't make the same offer boy."[/pink] She was simply smiling menacingly as Hayden's cards began to surround her but before they did she suddenly sprinted forward at him with what was left of her strength. However she didn't escape all the cards and were cut by a couple of them as she past by them. The new cuts hurt but she already had dozens of cuts on her body and a few more wouldn't matter.
Hayden made the mistake of coming in too close to the enraged Claire and she would make him regret it. As she ran toward him she flipped her chakrams around and moved to stab one chakram into his left shoulder and the other into the right side of his torso. Whether or not her attack was successful she followed up with a Fire spell aimed directly at his face. Claire didn't have much left in her but she wasn't about to make Hayden aware of that. Either way she had a feeling that this battle would be over soon enough.

Hayden was shocked as Claire charged at him. Most people wouldn't cut themselves like that just to land a couple more hits. He was going to have to immobilize his opponent. As he saw the way Claire was running at him, he made a split-second prediction, shielding his face and right side with his cards. He had miscalculated. He bit back a curse as his left shoulder was pierced again. That didn't matter right now, though. He couldn't counterattack for a couple seconds, but that turned out to be a good thing, as a fire spell diffused over the surface of the cards shielding his face. He managed to whisper something, just loud enough for Claire to hear, but the crowd wasn't aware that anything had been said. "Going for the cheap-shots, Claire-bear? You should be ashamed of yourself."Thankfully, telekinesis required no motion, because his left arm was in no condition to move, and Hayden was clutching his shoulder with the right one to stanch the bleeding. The cards moved just as swiftly as when Hayden had been controlling them with his arms, seemingly of their own volition, facing forward and quickly striking, stabbing towards his opponent, some of them still hot from the fire spell that had broken against them. Hayden stepped back after he executed this maneuver. Both combatants were bleeding heavily. Hayden knew that this was ending sooner rather than later, and he guessed that if he wanted to win anything, he'd need to end this fight before his Judgement wore off. He didn't indicate any urgency of the sort, though, just glaring at Claire. ABILITIES USED: Judgement: Hayden draws this card, and it emits a bright flash. Claire was successful in cutting him with one of her chakrams but her other one and her Fire spell were both blocked by those damn cards Hayden loved so much. She was furious that he had defended himself better than anticipated and she knew that she needed to end this now. But even though she was in a good position to do a follow up attack Hayden had beaten her to the punch and began his own attack. He stepped back a little bit and then he sent all of his cards at her in another attack. Claire began spinning her chakrams around as fast as she could which, much to her anger, wasn't nearly as fast as she wanted to but she still managed to deflect around thirty-six cards but twenty still got through to inflict even more cuts on her body. Only a few of them were ones that were red hot from her Fire spell and those cuts, in addition to all her other injuries, were making her feel like her entire body was being ripped about bit by tiny bit. The pain was unbearable but Claire would not be denied victory.
The girl stood there, blood was dripping from every wound, her clothes were now a sick tie-dye of black and blood red. But Claire still stood there with a maniacal smile on her face and she was sure with the combination of that smile and the rest of her appearance that she looked less like a woman and more like something straight out of a nightmare. Even her hair was stained with blood. [pink]"You... you think you can beat me? ME? You're just a silly little boy playing with you silly little cards. You think some papercuts will stop me? You'll have to kill me to beat me. But that won't happen. Because I'll kill you first... YOU HEAR ME?! I'LL KILL YOU!!!"[/pink] With that Claire started laughing wildly and in more like a flailing motion she threw her chakrams at Hayden once more, really just aiming for center mass then she cast Thundara on him. She would win this. Even if she had to nearly destroy herself in the process.
