It's business as usual in the Devil Kingdom. Thousands of human souls are punished in delightfully agonizing, demons growl under their breath about the "blinding fop-assery" of devils, while devils mutter about demons breeding with their mothers in dark corners of the Devil kingdom. Various clans continue to compete, ally, antagonize, assassinate, deal, cheat, honor, sell, buy, trade and barter with each other like any decent, law-fearing citizen under the Rule. Indeed, all is well in Hell.
Except that there's been no king since Mundus was sealed away, and in the years that followed the enmity between learderless devils and demons has grown. Compounding an already aggitated state, a handful of Mundus's most loyal servants have recently locked themselves in the old estate, bared direct access into the throne room, and activated Castle Balor's built-in security system to ward off any would-be kings thinking to steppin' up. According to a public decree by one of Mundus's surviving knights, the only hope anyone in the kingdom has to claim kingship is to survive the maze-like, trap-heavy journey to the throne. Everyone knows it's suicide, but that didn't stop a foolish few from trying.
Now, months after the last idiot attempted to breach the Castle, devils and demons are beginning to take out their frustrations on each other, sometimes in the very streets in broad Orb-light. The very real possibility of an explosive civil war is on everyones' mind, yet no one wants to make that push into bloody consequence, not when pride and life are the most important things on the agenda. For now...
Most recently a powerful demon, lord of his clan, was killed by an unknown assailant. While not unusual or unexpected, what with the higher than usual mortality rate nowadays, what was odd is how he died. Before his clan could hide the truth news had spread, impossibly fast, that the body of the demon lord was found with his entire skin hardened like stone, but blackened, as if by fire, yet there was no odor of charred flesh. Troubling of all was how his insides, every last organ, every last drop of blood, had been seared from his husk.
Naturally, this led to an intense investigation by the slain lord's clan. Beware the white masked inquisitors of Clan Blodsheer, for they are quick to accuse, and even quicker to make you answer, regardless of blood spilled.
So maybe today isn't a good day in Hell...but then, when is it really ever?
