~Give me a reason to live~
On a small island, where togetherness was hidden within a bunch of fruit, was a young boy. He was sitting on the end of the island, his feet dangling over the edge, and his eyes gazing upon the vastness of the sea before him. This boy's recognizable feature was the blazing red hair that grew out of his head. It was partially spikey, although with age it was beginning to grow down. Dirt-ridden and smelly, the boy's hair seemed like it hadn't been groomed in ages, which indeed it hadn't. He wore a brown poncho, a cloak of sorts, and underneath that black garbs. Also the boy wore black sandals, which weren't too weird due to the fact that the boy lived on or near a beach, depending on the day. In the grasp of the boy's hand was a brown bear almost half his size. The boys feet swayed back and forth, and a smile was plastered on his face. You see, the boy was a usually happy person, even though his past was a tough one. The boy looked to his teddy bear, and spoke to it, which for a child his age, wasn't strange at all. "So Rufus, what now?". The boy asked his companion this allot, never really expecting to find an answer from him. the boy usually found his own answer, it was just fun to talk to another once in a while, even if they weren't alive. Especially, when you were alone like him. Beside the fact of being alone, and hiding from most locals, the boy was very close to normal, at least for his age. His sunny disposition would show otherwise, especially to those who knew his past. The only thing that actually affected him from his past, was his loss of any family member he ever had, and the shyness that accompanied the boy.
A few hours passed, and the boy was still in the same poisiton, starrying at the magestic sea. It was what he did for the most of the day, that and daydreaming of other planets and exploring them. The boy's imagination was as vast as the sea he stared at, it was the only thing that kept him from being bored. Although sometimes imagination was not enough, at times boredom would slowly creep in. Suddenly a noise popped out of nowhere, and the boy instantly turned backward. He looked around for a bit only to spot a Papou fruit, something that only grew on the island that the boy currently sat upon. He stared at the fruit for a little while. All he could think about was the legend that came along with the fruit, how it brought people together for all eternity, and how he wanted to be with his mother. Slowly the boy picked himself up, his teddy bear Rufus still in hand and walked up to the fruit, plopping himself in front of it. He grapsed onto it and pulled out a knife he kept in his pants pocket. He cut into it, and chopped of a piece. Afterwords he pulled away his knife, and picked up the piece of fruit he had chopped off. He brought the hand with the fruit in it, toward his bear and offered it to him. With no reponse, tears began to well up in the boy's eyes. He was truely... alone.

Alone... but not alone for long.
Out of a dark portal half-way down the beach came a young man, with blonde hair and blue eyes, and wearing strange clothing not native to this world. He had chosen to come back here to this world, where he had previously met another boy with blue eyes but with spiky brown hair instead, to contemplate about matters he had just learned of in another world which he felt were personal.
He was walking down to the end of the island at the docks where he had once sat before, and felt saddened at the loss of his world and the people in his life he had loved the most, when he realized someone else was already there. A small boy, younger than him by at least a decade, snifflingto himself with his back to him. Keldric remembered how Sora had approached him when he felt down and had cheered him up without even trying, and suddenly felt compelled to pay forward the kindness he had been shown to this boy.
"Hey... are you okay?" he said softly to the boy, hoping he had heard his approaching footsteps so he wouldn't startle him, a bright smile bradishing his expression as he put aside his troubles for someone else's.
((OoC: Sorry if the post is short, it's late here at the moment when I typed this.))

The tears continued to fall. One by one, the speed of their descent increased. He couldn't help it, nor could he stop it, his life was not what he wanted it to be, even if he was the one leading it. Back as a toddler everything seemed fine, he was ignorant and blissful. And now... well now he was just a pathetic little boy all alone, and on his own. His best friend in the world couldn't confort him, or accept something that would supposidly allow them to be together forever. He knew that they wouldn't be together forever. He would be alone once more. He had the choice to not be alone, but he decided to be so, he no longer wanted to hurt anybody, especially his mother. Why should someone suffer on his account. The boy continued his silent weeping, his head facing the ground, until he heard someone speak over it.
"Hey... are you okay?"
The continued to look down, wiping his tears away as fast as possible. As helpless as he felt, he never wanted to show it. He was independent (for the most part) and needed to act so. He looked up at the newcomer, his eyes a bright red. It was a bit painful both emotionally and physically. His eyes hurt from all the crying, he also had a headache, not to mention he knew that a normal person could tell that he had been crying. Anyways, he instantly responded to the male, a lying tone in his voice, and a falter in his eyes.
"I-I'm... I'm fine...".
~Because I am stuck inside a memory of you~

Keldric nodded, and smiled as he sat down next to the boy at the end of the dock. "Okay... good." he played along, sparing the boy's feelings to be consoled by a stranger. Instead of focusing on him, he looked out at the ocean. "Great view, isn't it?" he observed admiringly.
He then turned to smile at the boy in the hopes his grimace would help the boy produce one on his own, but then looked down to notice that he was holding onto a teddy bear. It made him smile. There were a lot of little kids he had seen, and some of them had dolls or stuffed animals, or even pets with them. Keldric knew that childhood was a special time for kids like himself, and kids should just be kids, letting their imaginations run wild.
"Oh, wow! I'm sorry. I didn't see your friend there with you. Hi." His smile broadened into a grin, waving at the teddy bear. "What's your names? My name is Keldric. But you can call me Keldy, if that's easier." he offered his nickname kindly, waiting for the little boy to introduce himself and his bear.

The boy's head dropped back down, his eyes staring at the ground. His head felt heavy, probably because the headache he had received from all the previous crying. Although over, the boy still wanted to start up crying again. The pity for himself would not soon go away. Taking a look at the fruit still in his hand, didn't help either. There he would site, in his little pity party, truth be told he didn't want to be bothered. Whenever the boy was in this state, nothing really helped. He did not look up again, until he heard the footsteps creep up toward him. His head picked up at the exact moment the male sat adjacent to him. The boy slowly inched away from the male, Rufus dragged along in the child's hand. As for the fruit piece, he left it behind in his original spot. The boy did not stop until he felt comfortable at the space between him and the stranger.
"Great view, isn't it?"
It took the boy a little bit to show any sign of reponse. It was strange, not too many people noticed the boy, nor talk to him, and yet the male was chatting it up like they were lost friends. As much as he wanted to be alone, there was no excuse to be rude, so he finnally shook his head, confirming that it was indeed a beautiful view.
"Oh, wow! I'm sorry. I didn't see your friend there with you. Hi."
"What's your names? My name is Keldric. But you can call me Keldy, if that's easier."
At first the boy was a bit confused at whom he was speaking to, as well as waving, but then he turned to his brown bear. He stared at the bear for a little while, before shifting his position away from Rufus. The boy was a bit angry at Rufus for not accepting his gift, although he did think it a pretty useless geisture, since Rufus was after all, not alive. The boy turned around and grabbed onto Rufus, and brought him to his side once more. There was a patch of silence before the boy spoke once more. "... My name's Alexander, and he is Rufus", the boy said as he lifted up his bear.

"Hey Alex, hey Rufus. Nice to meet you." the boy smiled, waving towards them. As Alex moved away, he understood his need to keep distance from a strange male such as himself, but noticed the Paopu fruit Alex had left behind.
"You know what this fruit is? It's a Paopu fruit." Keldric told him and Rufus, picking the star-shaped yellow fruit up, reciting what Sora had told him. "They only grow on this island, and if you share it with someone, you become a part of their lives forever, no matter what."
He looked at the boy, and smiled thoughtfully as his blue eyes fell upon Rufus. "Y'know, I think I saw your bear take a bite of this fruit you were trying to share with him, when you weren't looking." he smiled, figuring out what he had been trying to do, and was kindly sparing the boy's feelings.

From lifting his bear, Alexander lowered him and put Rufus onto his lap, hugging it tightly. Not only was Rufus the one and only companion Alexander had, he was also the boy's saftey blanket, protecting him from any anxeity that came along with life. It was a mutual gain, Rufus got taken care of (which in truth anyone could do that job) and Alexander got somebody he could call family. Even if Rufus was inanimate. So far... life had been, for the most part, great since he had gotten Rufus. He would talk to him through the good and bad, and also have somebody to hug whn neccesary. Being a child and all, Alexander needed a constant hug, due to insecurity about himself. The boy looked down at the silence, only to look back up at Keldric's definition of the Papou fruit. He shook his head, he did know what a Papou fruit was, he had lived on the islands for nine whole years, which had to come with some knowledge of the place he inhabited, if not alot. He knew about the legends of other worlds, the legend about the door with no doorknob, he especially knew the legend of the Papou Fruit, it was the main purpose he was on this island today. He had wanted to share a Papou fruit with Rufus for a while now, and had finnally gotten one out of the tree. Too bad Rufus didn't accept his part of the gift, although Alexander didn't think they would be seperated anytime soon, it was just a sense of security for the boy.
"Y'know, I think I saw your bear take a bite of this fruit you were trying to share with him, when you weren't looking."
Alexander shook his head, for he knew that Rufus hadn't eaten the piece of Papou he had left behind. As much as he wanted him to, he knew he would never be able to. In a world of reality, Rufus was just fiction. "Liar...". Alexander pouted after he spoke, he didn't like being lied to..

Keldy's smile faultered a little bit as the child accused him of being a liar. He quickly recovered though, knowing what to say. Even if this depressed kid hadn't been completely allowed to stay as a innocent hopeful child, he felt he knew how to cheer him up, remembering Sora as his muse.
"Well, maybe I was mistaken. Maybe he was trying to eat it, but he isn't hungry right now. I bet you if he could, he would." he simply smiled.
"Besides, if you didn't think he could eat it, why would you be sharing it with him?" he asked innocently, looking out onto the beautiful violet and orange-pink sunset before them, gittering on the dark ocean waves.

Alexander watched as Keldric's smile became a frown. Though the frown didn't last long, the boy could not help but feel guilty. Perhaps it was not his place to call someone he just met a liar. Anywho it didn't really matter, there was no way the boy would admit a flaw such as that. He was too proud. As Keldric spoke, the boy shook his head in denial, he knew that Rufus hadn't tried, as much as he wanted it to be so, the boy wasn't stupid. Actually Alexander was quite smart for his age, which was quite apperant through what he spoke and how he did so. This, being from the kid, who never really had a parental figure~ "Besides, if you didn't think he could eat it, why would you be sharing it with him?"Alexander pondered this for a moment, attempting to think of a smart-alex reponse, it took him a bit longer than he had wanted, but he was fully able to come up with one, which he told Keldric a second or two after he had thought of it. "Why do you think?". (Sorry about the cruddeh post, I just had to get this topic going again, or it never would ^^;

At this the keybarer had a simple answer. The boy seemed so persistant to stay in a gloomy mood, and maybe it was better to feel the emotion out, but he wasn't going to add to it. He kept thinking of how Sora cheered him up with just words, and always had a positive spin on things, not skipping a beat and letting things get him down. And Keldric appreciated and admired that.
He was also upbeat and optimistic, but he was human and had his bad moments too, he just need an influence other than himself to keep his spirits going. He knew if he did he same for this boy, even if he felt spiteful and brooding now, when he was alone he might come to thank him for it. But he wasn't doing it for gratitude, or for the selfish reason of seeing a friendly smile on his face; he was doing it to pay forward his kindness and his compassion, to show the world wasn't all gloom and doom, so maybe one day the boy could pull it out of his own heart and be unbridled in happiness to share with someone else who needed it.
He looked upon the sunset on the ocean, adding thought to his words before he spoke, and smiled as he turned back to Alexander.
"I think, that you want someone to share a destiny with, to be a part of their lives, more than anything in the world."

Alexander looked at Keldric, his eyes begining to falter, then lowered his head. He was about to say something, but he just couldn't... it was like his emotions or even his common sense was telling him not to. For a while it got silent, Alexander wouldn't say anything. Perhaps Keldric was right, but did it really matter? Alexander was alone and thats all he was going to be... alone. A tear fell down from the boy's eyes, as he stood up. He turned toward the ocean, staring at it intensely, wiping away the single tear. He had really hoped Keldric hadn't seen it. "Y-...", he began, his thoughts were collecting as he spoke. "You got it all wrong, I don't want to love...". His head dropped, and soft sobs channeled from the boy's mouth. He plopped down onto his rear-end, his legs no longer holding him up. Another tear fell from his face. As more tears fell down, the sobbing became louder. Indeed the boy didn't want to love, but instead be loved.

Watching and feeling a little stunned, Keldric watched as the boy suddenly shed a tear, which sparkled in the remaining sunlight before it splashed down into the rest of the salty water below them under the dock. The boy stood up and wiped a tear away, hoping Keldric wouldn't see it. He had, but now he was starting to wish he hadn't. It reminded him of himself when he had been sitting at this very same dock, ages ago, feeling sorry for himself after he had failed to keep himself all together.
As the boy lost his strength and fell over backwards onto his backside, ducking his head and crying to himself, Keldric felt sympathy for him and very gentle, but very cautiously, petted the boy on the back as he said, "Who said anything about love? You don't have to love, to be loved unconditionally." he reasoned, smiling, feeling like he was comforting a long-lost little brother of his.

He couldn't help it, the tears wouldn't stop falling, even after he had wiped them away, they would just keep coming back. It was not fair, why did he suffer so? Was it his kind personality that had prevented him from being happy, ro was it just the weakness that lay in his heart? Really it didn't matter, he was here right now, making a fool of himself. Alexander let out more sobs, they did not grow loud, however became more rapid. He still felt alone, even with this kind-hearted teenager sitting next to him. He listened to what Keldric had to say, and continued to cry for a while, just to reposnd the best he could. "Nobody... Nobody deserves the pain I give them... I am useless..."

"You're not useless." Keldric defended his self-bashing, even if he didn't know it for a fact, and now he was confident Alex wasn't going to attack him after touching him he continued to kindly pet Alexander on the back.
"I used to think that too, you know." he thought aloud, looking out at the beautiful sunset in contemplation. "Actually, I guess I still do. But then I met some new friends, and they came through for me, and they were kind back to me no matter how badly I treated them." He looked down at Alex now, not able to meet his tear-streaked gaze, wishing he had a tissue or a hankerchief with him so Alex could wipe his tears away easier. No wonder he carried a teddy bear around with him, he seemed to have terrible self-esteem issues, and Rufus sort've acted as a security blanket as well as a companion. Which gave him a thought to consider.
"You still are friends with Rufus, right? He still sticks by your side. If a friend like that can be loyal to you if you keep them close, then anyone out there can learn to love you as much as he does." It seemed like that what the boy needed more than anything right now was friendship. And he was willing to offer that to him, he didn't seem like such a terrible person. "And if you like, I can be your friend." he smiled, trying this time to look the other boy in the eyes to show he was serious. "We can hang out and do boy stuff. We can even shake on it if you like."

There he was again, wasting yet another person's time. Why was he so selfish? He looked toward Rufus, then toward Keldric. An object of his lonliness, and a random stranger. He should just walk away, leaving Rufus with Keldric, there was no way he could take worse care than Alexander already did. No matter what Keldric said, the boy was still useless, pathetic, even a nobody. Why waste his time on Alexander? There was no point, except for dissapointment. That's all Alexander ever gave back in return, was dissapointment. Dissapointment to his father, mother, Rufus, and sooner or later even Keldric. Although offered a friendship, Alexander couldn't accept, not now, not ever. He would be alone, as long as there were people to dissapoint. Once more wiping the tears away from his face, the boy held in the rest of them. He stood up quietly, and began walking away, his back turned to Keldric and Rufus. He could never allow another person to be hurt due to him.
(Just addiing a little more drama XD)
